Survivor 10/9

Osten wasn’t the only Morgan idiot to not use the mask. I think it was Darrah who swam out without it too. Took her quite a while to find and retrieve a puzzle piece from under the water.

Sheesh. Haven’t these people ever been in the ocean? It’s hard to see without a mask, and it’s salt water for heaven’s sake. It’s irritating to the eyes. Morons.

I love it when Probst makes it obvious his utter disdain for some of these knuckleheads. That being said, at least Jon is entertaining - delusional, but entertaining.

Do you think it crossed anyone’s mind in Morgan tribe that Drake threw the challenge? They were so proud of themselves. Poor fools.

I think Rupe is too honest (yeah, I know he stole shoes) and too much of a straight shooter to win it all. Which is why he’ll show Morgan how to fish. And perhaps inadvertently show Morgan what a piss-poor leader they have in Andrew. I’d be happy with another week of crybaby Olsten just to see Andrew out on his useless ass.

Someone in last week’s thread said that they did not see anyone in Drake tribe except Rupert actually show any displeasure with obnoxious Jon. Perhaps it’s the editing, but it sure does seem like Drake thinks of Jon as a sort of bad-dog pet-- smiling indulgently as he scampers around the beach taking big dumps every where.

I thought the other maskless wonder was Tiajuana (sp?).
What make Osten so ridicurous was that he was wearing the darn mask on his forehead. What on EARTH could he have been thinking?

I think Rupert is in a great position to build ties with folk in Morgan, which can only help him upon the merge. He looks pretty tight with the 2 women on his team - Christa and ?. I could see him adding one or two from tribe loser - not sure which 2 - to go far post-merge.

The other girl - the only one other than Burton to vote for Christa - is vying with Jon to be next to go.

Yes, Tijuana was the one who raced maskless ahead of the other player – who was already wearing the mask.

I’m not clear on the logic Morgan was using as the show started. The tide’s getting higher, so they try to build a dyke. They didn’t want to go to the trouble of moving their camp. But they seemed to be expending an awful lot of energy digging and piling sand. Wouldn’t it have been less work to move the camp?

Also, someone picked up a good-sized crab and said something like “This is the one that tried to get us”. Did they throw it into the pot? I didn’t notice.

Christa’s stuffy-nose voice is a bit irritating. But I like looking at her.

“I’ll cast my vote based on the astrological signs.”
“Isn’t that disrespectful to the person you vote for?”
“Maybe… Maybe not. We’ll see in a few minutes!”

I got the impression that Rupert would only be a member of Morgan through the next Reward challenge. Jeff said he would participate in the challenge and share the reward (if they won).
Remember how tricky Jeff is (Faux merge that got rid of Shi Ann, anybody?) He never said Rupert was now a permanent member of Morgan.

Rupert can’t sit out the Reward challenge while with Morgan either - can’t sit out two back to back challenges. It will be interesting to see if he competes all out against his own tribe.

Got part of it right anyway. I think it would have been much more interesting, though, if the Morgan tribe would have come up with the idea on their own without help from Probst. I would have loved to see the looks on the faces of the Drake tribe when the Morgan member would have come on shore and said something like, “We’re taking this.” But this will work too.

As for Andrew, I don’t think he’s as horrible as everyone else thinks. I am actually rather fond of him. Granted, he doesn’t do a whole lot in the leadership department…but…he does encourage the importance of team unity and member strength. While most people may be intimidated by Osten’s strength, Andrew was in full support of that strength and quite possibly helped Osten overcome his feelings of woe. That is certainly something a good leader would do. However, why he thought fishing on the other side of the island would be any better…I have no idea.

Rupert/Hagrid. He’s going to be shocked when he gets to Morgan’s camp. I don’t think reports from the raiders will prepare him for the poverty in which they live. Being a fair-minded guy, he’ll help them to get organized. As was shown, he will teach them how to use the spear. Will he give out too much information about Drake? I don’t know. He seems to be shrewder than he looks.

But what about the RC? Which way will he go? Will he throw the match for his side? Or will he play the role of a Morgan member and go for a win? On the one hand, he knows he will have to go back to Drake. It would be strategically good for him to under-perform in the RC. On the other hand, he seems to find losing distasteful. He might do his best on the challenge and explain to Drake when he gets back that it was his duty under the rules of the game. If he Morgan wins, Rupert risks the wrath of Drake. If Frake wins and Rupert didn’t “try hard enough”, then he risks ouster be the remaining Morgans after the merge.

I’m wondering about another thing. Clearly Rupert will show some sort of leadership. After all, he’ll have to to get Morgan working together to make their camp better. Will Morgan see what a real leader is like, and start looking sideways at Andrew?

OK, I got whooshed (like I usually do) by the Machiavellian machinations pre-TC. What was Drake’s (or Burton’s, actually) rationale for considering booting Christa? What was the rationale for actually booting Burton?

A ditto for Osten. There are prizes buried in the sand and prizes in the water. You can’t swim. Hmmmm…I think I’ll go charging into the water without a mask. :smack:

I think he’ll wail on 'em. It’s their own fault they’re in the situation they’re in.

He couldn’t sit the challenge out in any case, not because of the back-to-back issue. The only reason people sit out is when there’s a disparity in numbers between tribes…since Morgan still has the size disadvantage (5 original members + Rupert) to Drake (7 original members), it’s still going to be Drake sitting someone out at the next challenge.

So what was the big deal about the treasure. It sure seemed like a lot of build up for something great for something that actually rather stunk (literally).

Could the treasure they found been a false treasure with the real one still out there? Or could the treasure chest just had leaked unintentially and ruined what would had been a much better find? Or was it really just a big joke played on the team?

Something seems wrong about the whole thing.

Both Osten and Tijuana swam into the ocean without a mask. Osten went into the water with the mask on top of his head. Tijuana actually raced ahead of Darrah, who already had the mask on. Even though you couldn’t see her face, Darrah’s  look was priceless.

That’s what I’ve been saying. Even though I’d love it if Andrew got voted off, I don’t see it happening soon. Who could replace him in the “leadership” role on Morgan? He seems to be the best in that group of clueless bumblers.

Sorry, BG. I must have skimmed over that. :o

Aye. I was thinking that. Still, it would be great if Morgan said, “Hey, wait a minute! Andrew sucks!

I got the feeling last night that Osten (and I hope I have the correct term here) is a Fifth Column. I mean, he’s purposely there to screw things up for whatever team he’s on. He didn’t look like he was in any particular trouble in the water when he was carrying on claiming to be drowning. But his flapping about and having his two teammates swim out to help him cost his team the RC. He had to jump off the original boat in Episode One and swim, so he has to be able to swim. I just didn’t get what his problem was last night. Made me think he was screwing up on purpose. Could explain why he just let go of the rope in the Immunity Challenge last week. He’s got to be strong with those muscles! Could also explain why he seemed to be such an idiot in the boats during last week’s RC. I think there’s more to Osten that meets the eye.
I totally agree about the uselessness of that “treasure chest.” It just wasn’t worth looking for. I sincerely hope it was a production team screw up. . . and not done on purpose.
Buh-Bye, Burton. Don’t know what made you such a target. . . but then again, we don’t know much about the Drake folks, do we? I mean, we know enough to love Rupert and hate John and admire (sort of) Sandra. But that’s about it. It leaves 4 ciphers now. We just don’t know who the heck they are and what they can do.
And I’m not so sure that Drank threw the Immunity Challenge, except for sitting out the wrong people. That Challenge looked like one that was set up for Morgan to win, lame as they are.
It will be fun to watch Rupert in the Morgan camp next week. Perhaps he’ll look upon them as “troubled teens” and really try to help them out.

What was with Jon and his little gang signs he was flashing? Is he communicating with his boyz or something? And, in this modern era, why is it not possible to reach into the TV screen and slap someone (Jon) in the back of the head? The inability to do that was driving me crazy last night! (Also, totally unrelated, except that I watched it on Tivo right after Survivor, Karen Sisco is a great new show.)

I understand why Jon voted for Burton. He had the opportunity to align himself with two strong men (Shawn and Burton) or physically weaker women (Trish, Krista etc.) It is close to the merge when the team challenges (team strength is vital) switch to individual challenges (everyone for themselves).

A skinny drink of water like Jon wouldn’t fare as well against strong members in an individual immunity challenge. It was in his best interest to eliminate some of the competition as the time for individual challenges gets closer.

As much as I don’t like him, his vote was good strategy.

Umm, unless I’m totally goofy, no one will sit out the reward challenge next week. Drake will only bring 6 original members to the competition, since Rupert will be playing with Morgan and they voted off Burton. Which means, since I can’t imagine Rupert not participating with enthusiasm, Morgan should have a chance to win the reward challenge. I also got the impression that this might be a “tropical feast” type reward, than Rupert can enjoy with Morgan before returning to Drake.
I also wanted to say that I really liked the sewingmachine and cloth reward. Anyone motivated, like Rupert, could have new clothes. I wonder if anyone else will be motivated.

I can’t believe Drake threw the challenge! I’m sure it will bite them in the ass down the road.

Think about it, if they didn’t throw the challenge, Drake would win immunity, Morgan would be down to 4 members. Then Drake would take one of Morgans people for a couple of days. So Morgan would only have 3 people left for the Reward challenge!

How sweet would that have been!
