Survivor 11/20 "Nothing Tastes Better Than Five Hundred Dollars"

Spoiler free first post.

Dude!

They really played up Bob’s fake idol on the “Previously on…” This is going to be great!

That was one of the most satisfying episodes in the entire history of the show. Right up there with Sue going postal on Richard Hatch.

OK, that tasted better than 500 dollars!

CLASSIC.

I want to marry Sugar.

And make little Sugar Babies.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha-
gasp
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

That. Was. AAAAAAWESOME!!!

I’m now convinced that it’s the editing that made Sugar seem so air-headed in the early episodes…

Between the evilly wicked vote out, the great Crystal voting speech, the switch from winking pre-vote slyness to post-vote Oh crap what just happened glaze, and the preview potential of Marcus’ 3 card monte-like idol resurrection that may have been the most satisfying 10 minutes of Survivor in years.

Well, that and she actually said that was her strategy in the first episode.

So spoil me, already! It doesn’t start for another 90 minutes here, and I want to know what happens now!

Nah, just view this episode as tantric sex. Let it build up for a good long while, because at the end it will be that much more worth it.

Okay. First, Bob told Sugar about his fake idol. She was suitably impressed with his creativity.

They had the usual auction. Randy won 3 of them, the last one for cookies for the tribe. He and Sugar had a little power game over the cookies. Bob went to Exile Island. When they got back to camp, Randy came up with a plan to act like an ass (even more so than he already was) and then get Bob (who they were SURE found the idol) to give him the HII.

So Randy just irritated everyone in camp except Corrine and when Bob got back, Sugar convinced him to give Randy the fake idol. Which Bob did. Kenny won immunity.

They went to TC, where Randy did his level best to paint a fluorescent target on his butt. They vote, Randy plays the fake idol, old Fang starts rolling on the floor giggling, Probst does his whole “HII rules” spiel, and then says, “This is…NOT an immunity idol!” It was a very Phil Keoganian pause before the “not”, actually.

Then Randy had bitter, bitter parting words, and the preview made mention of the fact that when Marcus threw the idol at the feast into the ocean…he actually didn’t. He pocketed it and hid it at camp. And told Bob about it and where it was.

Now, I don’t know if Marcus actually did this or if Bob is still working with Sugar, so I don’t know if there actually IS an HII at camp.

If Sugar doesn’t win the whole thing I will be very very shocked.

And Crystal’s vote speech was one of the best of the entire series. Has anybody ever shouted that before?

I’m pretty sure this is Bob trying to say “I had no idea that was a fake idol!”

Of course, I think Corrine is self absorbed enough to buy it.

Awesome.

Aha! I hadn’t thought of that, but it makes a LOT of sense.

Crystal was really funny while voting. I guess she thought, likely rightly, that Randy would never vote for her anyway, so why not. Either that, or she wasn’t thinking at all, which is possible too.

I started out this season really disliking Sugar. A lot. Over the last several episodes I have really started to both respect the game she’s playing and enjoy her character. I was amused at the way she was shaking her head and trying not to openly laugh when she heard Crystal’s noisome vote.

One other note, that was an immunity challenge that I fully expected Kenny to win.

My favorite recurring event to look for in each episode this season is Matty’s crazy high-pitched hyena laugh. He let out a little one during the immunity challenge this time.

As satisfying as this was I wonder why Bob told Sugar about the HII? What does that gain him? She isn’t in his alliance. Now he’s annoyed the others in his supposed alliance and helped vote out a guy who was already leaving. I don’t think was good strategy on his part.

His “supposed alliance” were two dead-men walking (Randy and Corrine). His only play was to try and ingratiate himself with a power player on the other alliance - at this point, probably Sugar or Kenny - so he chose wisely. IMHO it was his only strategy.

Now barring unforeseen circumstances (power alliance breakup or Corrine winning immunity) he’s bought himself 6 days and a small level of trust.
