Nah, Darrah should loose, so she’ll do the Playboy pictorial.
I agree with what Interrobang!? said, Rupert should have seen right off the bat that Burton was the best dart blower aside from him, and taken him out right off the bat. Everyone else pretty much got lucky with the darts, but Burton was the only other skilled person there. Bad bad strategy. Even if you’re in kahoots with someone and have an alliance, there’s still no reason to not try your best to win immunity for yourself. If there’s anything past shows have shown, is that there is always, always betrayal once you get down to this point.
I also was getting a little creeped out by Rupert at the beginning, when he was talking about rotten things, and the stench. Maybe it was taken and edited strangely, but that was a bit weird.
Still watching, but not as happy now that he’s gone. Although I do think that if he picks up his attitude some, he can walk away with some endorsments or something.
I kind of liked Rupert too, but he made some bad miscalculations along the way. The worst I thought was a few episodes ago when they voted off Shawn instead of Jon. Jon had already shown himself to be a snake with his attempted coup (and it was Shawn who stepped up to stop it!). Why vote off the guy who was loyal to you and keep the snake? The other mistake was that Rupert, Sandra and Christa were way too tight. Nobody else had anything to lose by switching sides.
I think Sandra voted for Jon because she figured they had the vote for Darrah wrapped up and this was a way to sneak in an extra vote for Jon. I get the feeling that the scheming she heard between Jon and Burton was not interpreted as a coup right now, but after T and D were voted out. If that was the case, then sneaking as many votes against Jon as possible is a good idea for potential tie-breakers.
Jon may be an annoying twerp, but he has done some good outwitting. Rupert should not have been treating him like some sort of troubled teen that he could control.
Tis a sad, sad day for Rupert fans. Well, not that sad, since it looks like we will get to see him again in January on Survivor: All-Stars. But still. In any case, Rupert went from being King of the Tribe – as evidenced by last week’s immunity challenge – to being just another jury member. What happened? Why did Rupert lose? http://www.realitynewsonline.com/cgi-bin/ae.pl?mode=1&article=article3837.art&page=1
I don’t think I’d be getting too comfy if I were Jon or Burton. I could see this being an all-girl final. Obviously, Burton is a threat to sweep his way into the final two with the challenges. Jon is useful as the vote-for-me-cause-I’m-better-than-this-assface other member of the final two, but then again, I could see Lil filling that need pretty nicely too.
Speaking of her - last nights episode was a rollercoaster of emotion at the Slacker house. When she was blubbering about not giving the reward to Rupert, we laughed. When she modeled the skirt with the world’s longest slit, we cried. I think we’re all closer as a family now though.
So… speculation on The Big Secret™? I’ve got one. Please note that I haven’t read a word on any of the spoiler sites, so this is just wildly uninformed conjecture.
The Big Secret: Jon isn’t really a jackass. At least not as much as he appears. He’s merely playing up the jerky side knowing full well that it’s a pretty good way to get yourself in the final two. Then before the jury, it’ll be time to come clean and he’ll explain what he did and why he did it. He’ll point out that the other person in the final two didn’t pick him because he wanted the best survivor to win, but rather because he or she thought Jon would be easy to beat. He’d then ask them to vote for someone who for maybe the first time in the history of the game, really surprised people and played the game hard with a different method, rather for yet another person who chose what appeared to be the easy route.
Again, this is all just speculation - but it sure would be interesting, wouldn’t it?
Good Lord, that was the most embarrassing exit interview I have ever seen! His body language spoke volumes, too - the man was completely crushed. I gotta agree with elf6c - this dude need to talk to a professional. His chosen profession is mentoring troubled teens - I think we’ve definately discovered that he had to have been one himself.
Wonder if he got so comfortable in his skirt that he spent the rest of his time in Loser Lounge in a big flowered MuuMuu, sobbing into a piña colada about his lost dreams? Anyways, I’m glad he’s off my TV for a few weeks. I was getting really tired of his routine. Burnett better not pull another damn twist and bring him back, too. It’s bad enough I’ve still got to see Lill’s sour face.
Could it be that Sandra has a secret alliance? Remember, she already knew that Burton and Jon were scheming against Rupert and she put a point on Rupert in the IC, then she doesn’t vote with Rupert in the TC, thus making sure that Rupert would be out with 4 votes? Of course, it is never shown on camera and unless she comes clean this week (saying she wanted to get Rupert out because he was so dominating), then it is highly unlikely.
Sandra was absolutely stunned at TC. There was no way she was scheming against Rupert. Like Balduran said above, Sandra thought this week’s vote would be unanimous, just like last week’s. So she figured she could throw a vote Jon’s way to hurt him later on in the event of a tie.
Rupert’s biggest error this week, IMHO, was testing Lil’s allegiance at night. Had he spoken with her in the daylight, he could have looked into her eyes while testing her loyalty. And then the jig would have been up, because she either would not have been able to lie to his face, or he would have easily read her attempt at deception. Lunge, parry.
As for the dart game, I didn’t mind it. Certainly some of the ICs should reward individual skill, like the swimming one did. But I think it’s okay to also have contests that reveal who is aligned with whom and who they are plotting against. Games like this one (and the coconut game) can shine a very bright light on allegiances. After a game like this one, players can know who the threats are, and then try to respond.
I have watched on and off since the beginning and i must say that this really bugs me. This is the last time I watch any shows where the weak and conniving can win over the strong. It sucks to see the lowest of the low win and the strongest get booted. They should design the game so that the strong survive and the weak go bye bye.
This is my last season of the show. I had skipped the last 2, but decided to give it another chance (mainly because Friends is now unwatchable), but watching Burton, Andrew, and now Rupert get voted off because they are better than those other losers seals it.
I’m also at a loss who to root for now. Rupert was the best part of this season. Darrah and Jon both annoy me to hell. I felt bad for Lil getting voted out so early, but since her return, it’s clear why. Sandra and Crista seemed to be just riding Rupert’s coattails. Burton is a good player now that he’s back, but while I like the Outcast twist, I don’t want an outcast to win. I guess that leaves T. I haven’t seen her do anything worth winning, but she’s not annoying, and almost as cute as Elisabeth. OK, I guess that’s it then. I’m hoping for a Burton/Tijauna final with T as the winner.
Andrew? Better than anyone? You must be confusing him with someone who knew how to do anything other than whine about a lack of food.
Oh, OK, I’ll give you that he was better than Osten.
On another note, this is the first season of Survivor I’ve watched beyond a few episodes here and there, but even I knew Rupert was never going to make it to the end (and yes, I did support him regardless). Physically strong players never seem to catch on to the fact that their strength counts against them after the merge. They need to learn to mask their strength early on so that, whilst still winning, they don’t appear as much of a threat as they inevitably end up doing, until it’s too late to get rid of them.
Rupert cared too much about winning every challenge and that got him voted off.
I really hope Darrah and Tijuana go soon. Neither has done anything of worth all series beyond the mother of all coat-tail ridings. First Andrew and now Burton. And it’s not like they even had to make an effort to catch on to them, just sat there until Burton approached them. Oy…
It occurs to me that I wouldn’t mind the Outcast twist as much – and I don’t hate it, but I certainly hate listening to Lill these days – if they hadn’t been given immunity at the first tribal council post-reunion. It made sense when the tribes were separate, of course, to protect whomever from Andrew’s immediate rejection. But because they merged and there were two of them, the Outcasts should’ve been fair game. Only one could possibly get voted out, and smart players post-merge would’ve used the other one as an ally.
Also, while Rupert’s final words were probably the most pathetic I’ve seen, I cut him some slack just because of the surprise. Most players know it’s at least possible they’ll be going, but Rupert – foolishly – didn’t consider it. That said, he should never have let his sense of self-worth get tied into game performance as much as it did. It is, as they say, a game.
I haven’t followed this thread throughout the season and I’m amazed at the divergent views of Rupert. I didn’t expect him to be a love-him-or-hate-him type. Yet some posters hated his “my island” comments and his parting speech. Others may stop watching the show now that he’s gone.
About those parting comments, I think they were brilliantly authentic. They were only pathetic in that they evoked sympathetic pity for the man. I don’t think Rupert has a phony bone in his body and that’s why it worked for him. People that like Rupert (and that’s most people according to the polls) will only think better of him for being so honest. If Jon gave a similar speech I’d likely vomit.
I’m not worried about him though. This guy has the potential for more endorsements than any previous Survivor. Agents will throw themselves at his feet.
I liked Rupert a lot. My hope is next week we get to see how after TC, Rupert escaped from the producers, retrieved his spear, and is waiting in the jungle for the other “survivors”!
The previews for next week look good. I’d like to see a little sabotage. I’d also like to see the gang starve now that they dropped Ru.
Finally, if Johnny Faiplay wins, I will not only never watch again, I will hunt him down and beat him with his own shoe.
On reflection, I think Rupert’s big mistake was deciding to target Darrah this time instead of Burton. Darrah makes sense if old-school tribal loyalties applied, but it’s obvious they didn’t. Had Rupert approached Darrah (or Tijuana, or both) with the idea of voting out Burton, they might have gone with that instead.
There’s still the problem of the obviously tight Christa/Sandra/Rupert alliance, but, as in the blowgun game, Rupurt should’ve gone after Burton guns a’blazin’ ASAP. Especially after the big reward challenge hint that Burton wasn’t as hunky-dory with Rupert as he seemed.
