Survivor 2-Hour FINALE 05/11/2003

I’m a guy, and I don’t find Heidi particularly attractive. She does have a nice body, but her face is, to me, borderline repulsive. And if you take into account her “personality”, her total lack of any grasp of reality, and her monstrous"I’m a cute girl" ego, I’d run screaming into the night before I’d spend any time with her.

Squeegee, if you go to the official Survivor site and watch the video of Rob’s final words, he says outright that he saw Matt “jump off” the post in 5 seconds. He knew Matt threw it.

The rest of the jury knew about it because they held that challenge right in front of them.

What doesn’t make sense to me about Matt throwing it pissing Rob off enough to vote for Jenna is that for all Rob knew, Matt threw it to give Rob a better chance of winning it himself.

I don’t know. The whole thing was completely fucked up.

What I wish is that they showed the commentary each jury member made when they held up their votes at the end, explaining why they voted the way they did, rather than having to speculate as to their utter stupidity.

My SO had a great suggestion: The producers should have had the subway car filled with the contestants from the previous Survivor shows. Richard, Rudy, Gervase, Jeri, Kimmi, Frank, The General, etc. All just sitting on the subway when Probst gets on.

Plus, Matt affirmatively said in a post-challenge, pre-jury confessional that he threw the final challenge.

It has all of the classic signs of a behind-the-scenes jury nullification. I would bet that Jenna played the “mom with cancer” card and that, with her final comment about who “needs” the money the most, that the jury went with the pity votes. A shame really, it was a fantastically fun season, it is terrible to see everyone’s effort and strategy wasted simply to prevent Jenna from weeping again. I hate to see how it influences future survivor seasons, want to bet that future players attempt the “woe is me” strategy for winning?

Because as far as Rob was concerned, he and Matt were in it together at the end. So if either of them won the IC, they would bring the other along. They had a 2 in 3 chance of going to the final 2 with each other. When Matt threw the challenge, it cut their chances to 1 in 2.

Me too. I hated her as much as anyone throughout the season, but last night I actually started to like her. She really did seem to have learned from experience, and genuinely regretted some of her bitchier moments.

You have to give her props for winning the last two ICs. That was the only way she could have won, and she did it. (Surprised the heck out of me!) But I’d suspected for some time that she was smarter than she appeared.

Plus, she looked really hot in the Amazon princess get-up. It’s a weird fetish I have, but funky colored hair always gets bonus points from me.

And also, Matt’s lame pontificating at the final TC just struck me as annoying and phony. I think I’d have voted for Jenna after that also. I still wish Rob had won though.

Oh, and someone said Heidi looked like Pamela Anderson…I though she looked more like a life-size Barbie doll whose hair and makeup had been done by a six year old. Ew! I think she’s hideous, and delusional to boot.

Why would you suggest that the jury vote was anything other than an expression of a preference for Jenna over Matt? Look, this is really quite simple. Who was on the jury, and what did they think about Jenna and Matt?

Dave: Saw Jenna’s boobs, and called it a highlight of his life. Seemed to get on well with Heidi, who worships the ground Jenna walks on, and was affirmatively betrayed (along with Roger) by Matthew and the New Jabaru alliance.

Deena: Strong preference for a woman to beat out a man (remember how she got Roger booted pre-jury?), blamed herself–not Jenna–for blowing up the New Jabaru alliance by turning on Alex.

Alex: A puppydog for Jenna, creeped out by Matt.

Christy: Okay, this one I can’t explain. If anyone other than Matt is up there, that person would have gotten Christy’s vote.

HeiDDi: It doesn’t take a genius to know that the self-reported genius with the discount boob job was Heidi’s all the way, even when Jenna dissed her at TC.

Butch: Simplistic game view–i.e., voting for who worked hard–led him to vote for Matt.

Rob: Thanks to Matt’s transparent throwing of the final IC, he knew that Matt had stabbed him in the back. Plus, he seemed to get along with Jenna reasonably well when she wasn’t bitching about how he’d turned on his alliance.

That’s five solid votes for Jenna. There was no need for a “woe is me” strategy, and I doubt it had anything to do with the final vote tally. Matt badly miscalculated on who he should go to the jury with–he never had a chance against Jenna.

Yeah but he really didn’t have a chance with Rob either. No matter who they put in that #2 spot, maybe with the exception of Butch, there was no way that Matt could’ve won the show. They all had reasons to not vote for Matt. Against Jenna, it was just a preference thing. With Rob, they would’ve gone with Rob because he was clearly playing the game. Maybe of them even agreed to this when Probst asked if that would’ve made a difference if he had made it to the final 2. As much as I like Matt and really wanted him to win, he would’ve never been able to place higher than runner-up.

Ah, I see.

You know, it wouldn’t surprise me if she really meant that she only wouldn’t do it for peanut butter again. I am quite sure if the money was right, we’ll see a Playboy spread from her sometime.

I mean, after all, she’s very conceited and vain, so any chance she gets to show herself off, she won’t pass up.

I agree very much, Ferrous. My hat’s off to the editors as well. Pulling off that metamorphosis in a single episode — and in a believable manner — after a whole season of bitchdom was quite a coup. I think her comments at the reunion show sealed it. The world lost one spoiled brat. That alone is worth a million dollars.

I can’t agree with the idea Jenna’s “maturing” at the very end somehow made her deserve to win. She spent the whole time whining, crying & being one of the laziest contestants. Towards the end there she was such a miserable wreck she wanted off the show & had a breakdown when they chose Heidi instead. That’s a little late to have a turn around in my book, especially when a million bucks is at stake.

Today I’m thinking there’s something nefarious up with Matt. He didn’t just throw the final IC, from what I could tell he threw a few other challenges too. Remember when they all had to fill out the questionnaires & then guess what the majority answers were? Matt had a solid lead and then answered himself as the person most people on the tribe had a secret attraction to. C’mon, he knew better than that. When there was a car & food at stake, he solidly won, hands down, easy. He wanted to win that one.

For some reason, there’s something we don’t know going on between Matt & the producers that Matt simply could not be the final winner. I suspect Matt knew it, and someone influenced the jury members too. And I didn’t hear any convincing explanations from the jury during the after-show, it was mostly all idle chit-chat.

Couple other things. No one noticed the nice slam Brian gave Jeff about the water ski thing during the intro to the final show? Jeff didn’t look amused.

What is up with Matt’s face hair? Does he have a natural goatee? Or has he had some sort of treatment done? He had a full goatee but no cheek face hair while all the other guys had full beards by the end of the show.

Then there’s his body. At the beginning of the show and after the show he looked pretty good. During the show - and they were only out there a month - he looked ghastly. Nothing but skin over muscle implants, from his appearance.

I’m really thinking Matt just could not be the winner. Wonder if we’ll ever find out why?

Well, he lost thirty pounds for one thing. That tends to make a person look skinny.

As far as Jenna being lazy, yes she was. She admitted last night that she was. And she said she was ashamed of herself. In my book, that sort of thing is of high ethical value. But that aside, it is a game of politics, and the fact is that the very hardest workers — especially if they’re loud or obvious about it — often end up getting kicked off pretty early in the game. Being the “hard worker” isn’t the only strategy for winning, and as Rich figured out in the first Survivor, you have to be pretty delicate about flaunting your hard work.

Matt must be like my husband, who has a natural goatee. He simply doesn’t grow hair on the sides of his cheek. FYI, I was strangely attracted to Matt last night. He filled out really well.

Was also suspicious that he and Jenna were an item after they held hands all night.

I thought the episode was very interesting. Still wish they’d learn and cut the final episode to an hour and make the reunion show 2 hours.

I think Deena is a hoot. “And, who can blame them for flauting their looks? If I had it, I’d flaunt it, too?” Jeff: “Really?” (Pause) “No.”

Heidi asking “Is there anyone else?” was pathetic. Why didn’t she come out and say, “LIKE ME?”

I can’t believe Christy didn’t understand that it was her ambivalence that was her downfall until Jeff spelled it out for her.

Jeanne saying that she didn’t get that there was a beauty contest going on because she was WORKING so hard was a crack up. Didn’t realize how hurt she’d be hearing what Heidi and Jenna said about her. It seems like Jenna learned her lesson a bit and was mortified at her behavior, but Heidi STILL couldn’t find an ounce of humility to apologize for being such a shallow bitch. Yeah, it’s all about people being jealous of your skeletal body and plastic boobs, Heidi.

Really didn’t like Alex last night. Going on and on about what a mental case Matt was was in really bad form.

Rob was hysterical. And despite all his scheming you couldn’t help like him because he just grinned from ear to ear. He may be a schemer but he’s not malicious. I think Matt could learn a thing or two about people skills from Rob. Clearly he was a loner and it hurt him in the end. I don’t think Jenna WON the million bucks as much as Matt LOST it by not developing close relationships with anyone. Even Brian figured out that you needed to schmooze a little to get ahead.

However, in Matt’s defense, for never watching the show, he learned quickly. I also think he threw some challenges deliberately because he saw that the jury was picking off the biggest threats. If he would have only won the last one, he may not have lost so badly. I still think Rob would have won, but maybe not as convincingly.

Saw Jenna’s mom with her bandana on her head and was glad Jenna won. She’s learning a brutal lesson right now, that no amount of money can replace your mom. :frowning:

Another thing I wanted to mention: Jenna’s speech about how she wasn’t going to pick the guy she thought she could beat was positively inspired.

“To me, winning is defeating your toughest competition.” (Or something very close to that.)

I completely bought it, and gave her credit for it. I could believe that she thought she had a better chance against Rob, yet picked Matt because she respected him more. I didn’t agree, but I could see why she thought that.

But then to find out that it was a line, and that she really knew she had a better chance against Matt…that borders on genius, IMO.

She showed ungrudgung respect and admiration for Rob’s gameplay, even though he “burned” her. For a person who is, after all, quite young, I thought she showed considerable grace, humility and class, there at the end.

OK, that’s what I get for watching the finale @ 3am and skippity-skipping around with my Tivo.

Yeah, I’m guessing that’s how I missed Jenna’s “maturation” that everyone else is talking about.

To those who think that Jenna deserved to win because of how she was after the final four, all I can say is that I don’t care how she was in the final four, my gripe is that she didn’t deserve to get to the final four in the first place! Throughout the game she was shallow, clueless, arrogant, and lazy. If there were any justice, she never would have gotten the chance to “redeem” herself in the end because she would have been booted early on.

The final four really should have been Rob, Matt, Butch and Christy! I totally agree that Christy was very dumb in blatantly revealing her indecision to Rob, but I also think that Rob made his biggest strategic blunder in voting Christy off then.

I don’t think we were cheated by the producers. I thought Jenna had it when she made the final 3. By the time Rob left I figured:

Alex*-- who hated Matt so much had to be told to play nice by Probst @ the reunion-- said he and Deena were so creeped out by Matt they were scared. That came thru clearly on the show. Add to that Heidi & I figured Jenna only needed Dave to win so I figured she had it.

minty green’s point about Rob seeing the hop off as a stab in the back makes sense – I didn’t see that before.

I still have not heard a logical explanation for Kristy’s vote – but upon reflecting that this girl still didn’t understand as of last night that it was her doing – not Rob – that got her voted off… I have decided she may not be very smart at the game, & she is a bit of a flake – which is neither a reflection of her deafness nor because of it.

*Alex hated Matt – I think he couldn’t believe that given the cool guy that he (Alex) was, he was booted & yet this weirdo was where HE sould be. I bet Alex would have voted for Rob over Matt.
