Did you see the look on Keith’s face when Colby won immunity? Hilarious! I laughed out loud!
Back on Super Bowl Monday I said that I wasn’t going to watch that show, and I haven’t. Nevertheless, I’ve been enjoying reading everyone’s predictions and speculation. One particular reason is because I quickly found my way into http://www.ellipsiiis.com .
I’ve scored a lot of free beer over the past few weeks by placing innocuous little bets at bars while I ignored the show. Tonight, however, I didn’t feel like going out, and I sure as hell wasn’t going to watch the show. Was the Ellipsiiis Brain Trust yet again correct in their predictions? They were:
Don’t peek now unless you’re planning on profiting from this.
-
Colby won immunity;
-
Keith got booted;
-
Tina won, 4-3.
One played the game as a true competitor. One was portrayed as a genuinely nice person.
And the winner is…

Oh, I’m not going to say. Someone might accidentally peek.
Wow, now Tina AND Colby own the ugliest car on the planet. Congrats you two.
Wassamatta, Merc? You don’t like the Azdreck?
They gave 'em Ass-teks? Jesus, why not just hand them a couple of sandwich boards that say “loser” while they’re at it?
Still one of those losers is $999,945 wealthier than I am, so who am I to opine?
That’s too bad for Colby. Congrats to Tina, she could use the money. Colby still gets $100,000 dollars and that ugly ass car.
Another thing. Maybe you noticed it too. I’m not real close to my mother but I care about her and I love her. I know some people who are close to their moms. But it seemed to me that Colby talked about his mom like know ever has before. This guy was way too emotional about his mother. I wouldn’t be suprised if the camera guy’s got some footage in that aztec that would expose some love affair or something.
I was surprised when Colby the Perpetually Immune voted Keith off. Strategically, not a good move. On the other hand, I can see that he thought that if he didn’t win, then Tina deserved it more than Keith. I think it was a classy, but expensive, move on his part.
Based on “survival”, I think Colby deserved to win. As Tina said, when you’re playing a game you play to win. I thought Colby played the game the best. Tina seems to be genuinely nice. (In the post game show she was described as “motherly” and as “ruthless” and was asked which she thought she was. She said “in the middle”.) So I think she “deserved” the money more. But then there was the comment about her “being a more nurturing mother” after the game. That begged the question: What kind of mother was she before? Then there was Colby who said he wanted to save a building from being foreclosed upon for his father. Maybe he’s not “just a good competitor”?
Oh, and FWIW, I don’t think there’s anything “sick” going on between him and his mom. Some families are very close and loving in a non-sexual way. Of course that doesn’t mean we can’t joke about it anyway.
I think Debb took things too personally. Come on, it’s a game. I would have hated being the first one voted off because I tend to be a strong competitor. But it is a game, and someone had to be voted off first. It just happened to be her. (Or is it “she”?) I don’t remember the first show very well, but it seemed she rubbed a few people the wrong way right off the bat. I’ll have to check out the rerun. I had to roll my eyes when she said that she was “tough” (in the post-game show) while she was crying. She’s not as “tough” as she thinks she is. One of the first rules of survival is that you have to have the proper attitude. I think, in retrospect, that she didn’t.
Who said, “Bow wow!” when they showed the 1977 pic of Marilynn?
Elizabeth was amazingly cute. Did anyone mention the conversation between Tina and Rodger where Rodger volunteered to be voted off before Bessy?
Fiver? Fiver? Fiiiiivvvveeeerrrrr!!!
Hey, has anyone seen Fiver? We haven’t heard a word from him. Saw him last night about 10:30 wandering around and muttering to himself something about the Alamo and 150 clams and Oedipus. Looked pretty shook up.
You guys haven’t seen him, have you?
Fiiiiivvvveeeerrrrr!
:: walks off, shaking head ::
Funny how there were like 19 Aztec commercials during the show last night…
I was kinda surprised when Colby voted Keith off, but I missed his point in some previous show where he said his perspective was changing from winning the game to making sure the best survivor won. He knew that wasn’t Keith. I think Tina would have voted Keith off, too, if she had won immunity.
Surpised isn’t the word.
Colby said he just wanted to make sure that Keith didn’t win the money. Well, HELLLOOOO! There was NO WAY Keith would have won going up against Colby in the final vote! What could have possessed him to vote his conscience after time and again proving that he was there to win the game and making EVERY strategic move necessary to get there, damn the consequences?!?
I just couldn’t believe he did that. He’ll sleep better at night, he says. I don’t think he would have had any trouble sleeping if he’d won the game against Keith…secure in the knowledge that it was JUST A GAME, that Tina and everyone else knew that, and, believe it or not, there was NO MORAL IMPERATIVE to do right by anybody but himself.
Having said that, I’m happy that Tina won…she played well and hard, she never lost faith or gave up, she made friends - not enemies, she didn’t suck up to anyone, and she has the heart and soul of a Survivor…I’m just amazed that Colby pissed it away like that. He was (almost) equally deserving of the win.
Maybe Tina gets the last and final hurrah for somehow GETTING Colby to keep her on. Playing the “Mother” role to a young man who OBVIOUSLY very much needed his Mommy. Intentional strategy or not, it certainly did work for her.

OK, I know it was supposed to be “live”, but I assumed it would be live on the east coast, and delayed on the west coast. But when they showed that helicopter coming in it was full dark. Which would be fine if it were live in Los Angeles, because the “live” part aired at about 9:45, LA time.
But at 9:45 east coast time, the sun was definitely still shining in Los Angeles. I know, I was there!
So, what’s up with that?
By the way, by the time the non-live part of the show ended, I was ready to smack Tina. Man, I just can’t handle her.
shelbo: The helicopter/outside shots were probably prerecorded. All the important stuff was going on inside a soundstage. Which, btw, was a crappy way of doing things. I know they wanted to keep things secret–even though they didn’t manage to keep much of anything secret this time around–but the whole thing looked WAY more like a cheesy game show than a drama on that soundstage. Tina made up to the point of being unrecognizable, Colby put on 50 pounds, and both in their clean, neat, and pressed “outback” clothes. Yuck! Neither of those people deserved a million bucks. That should have gone to the half-starved lunatics they were back in Australia.
You know, this would be a lot cooler if the thing were shot and shown in real time. Dump 'em all out in Kenya or wherever, start shooting, hire some CNN editors to slap it all together into broadcast form, and cap each episode off with a live tribal council. That would cut way down on the schmaltz factor that was so overdone last night, plus put some real suspense back into it because viewers would be looking at what happened over the last three days, not six months ago.
They did (almost) this already: it was called Big Brother. And it sucked.
Debb was referring to all the tabloid gossip about her personal life. She married or is engaged to her deceased husband’s son. That’s her stepson, who was an adult when she married his father. The message boards and press have been extremly cruel to her and it was probably that and not the game and hurt her. I felt sorry for her last night because her entire life was torn apart because she was on the show for a few days.
Did anybody notice the pattern? Both Survivor runners-up got into the final two by winning a bunch of immunity challenges in a row, then lost the final vote 4-3.
Then again, in the first Survivor, the runner-up never had a vote cast against her, and in this one, the winner never had a vote cast against her. So much for my pattern theory.
I thought that Colby answered the jury’s questions much better than Tina had - I wonder if his refusal to give a final speech impacted on the votes …
Even though Tina isn’t allowed to split the money with Colby, would it be possible for her to, say, buy him that Harley he wanted?
She won’t need to. Grace just told me earlier today that Colby has signed a 3.5 million dollar endorsement contract with Levi’s.
Personally, I think he was stupid to play that hard to win throughout the whole game, just to throw in the towel at the end (which is basically what he did). But clearly he figured he’d rather win “the hearts of America” than the title “Survivor of the Australian Outback.” He knew he’d make more money off endorsements after the fact than a million bucks, but Tina would never have that kind of opportunity coming in 3rd (had he voted her out), and I guess he figured this way they were both winners.
Jeg elsker dig, Thomas
I may have heard it wrong, but I thought Colby meant that not only did he not want Keith to win the million, he didn’t want him to even win the one hundred thousand that he would surely have won by coming in second against Colby. That, as I understood it, is why he voted him off.
I’m amazed that people can’t dig why Colby did what he did. We don’t know the man, don’t know really how his mind works, we’ve only seen what he has chosen to say in front of the camera, and God knows, people say one thing, but do another quite often in life.
Sir
I just had to say that I was laughing my head off at Jerri’s question time. She was so desperately fishing for an apology. And Tina turned it right around and said the only thing she regretted was going along with one of Jerri’s schemes. That was friggin’ hysterical. She deserved to win just for that line.
