Survivor 37: David vs. Goliath Premieres Tonight

Season 40 makes sense for an all returnee season. This is season 37.

For those that are not spoiler averse for next season.

[spoiler]Previously TV has some spoilers on Season 38

Some Cast spoilers on returnees early in thread, and some format spoilers at the bottom of first page (which is going to get a lot of blow-back IMO) On Page 1, there are no results spoilers. Not sure about page 2.

I would also at this point accept an All-Star version where every single contestant has won their season.

I used to joke about this around season 5-6(it would take years to get this many!), but I think they could do it now, even if the gender ratio of willing people isn’t 50/50.

We need a season with both Christian and Cochrane!

Although I’m sympathetic to the desire for an all-star season of first timers only, I must admit this would be pretty cool!

Survivor 40: Jocks vs Nerds!

I like it!

David, I’m about halfway through your “Why Christian Lost” episode. I agree with you that Christian’s move on Carl was not premature. To say he is out of the game, therefore ipso facto it was the wrong move, is unfair IMO. I’m not sure what he could have done (except maybe, as you guys pointed out, throwing the endurance challenge to make himself seem less of a challenge threat).

David B

In your predictions this week, it looks like you poo-pooed my suspected foreshadowing of Alison/Angelina in the final four fire challenge participants.

I guess we will see tomorrow night.

Here is another prediction: The Survivor Reunion will have some comments like

“WORST REUNION EVER”

and I agree with you on the winner. I think Nick wins!

If you put a gun to my head I’d guess Nick as the winner, but only because he’s the only one remaining who I’ve liked his odds all along (I thought Kara had a good shot early on but she’s really faded into the background recently). That said, I think anyone could win except Angelina, who seems destined to be a zero-vote Final 3 tag-along.

Good analysis.

This narrative has perhaps been hidden by the editors, but it sure looks to me like the Davids got too cute and had a lapse of judgement after their hard-fought maneuver to get into the majority. They handed the majority back to the Goliaths, who said “ookaaayyy…thanks!” and promptly went back to voting them out. :smack:

Huh. Who knew Angelina is a woman of colour? (Unless I misheard her, which is possible.)

Beige is a color…

While the edit may be obscuring this, to me it really did feel like after the Alec vote the tribe allegiances were dropped and people started thinking individually. Christian and Davie were definitely “take out the #1 threat to win” type votes and I think Nick might’ve gone too had he not started his immunity run.

I do find it interesting that the two Goliaths who made it to the end felt like the most out-cast to me at times - Mike being nearly a decade older than everyone else except Natalie, and Angelina rubbing everyone the wrong way and seeming to not be able to make any deep alliances. I do wonder if perhaps Mike should’ve gotten a bit more credit for his gameplay… Christian certainly thought so. I admit he flew under the radar for me but it seems his game wasn’t the flashy type that comes across well on TV… this really is the “big movez” era with blindsides and finding advantages (and of course still a dash of winning immunity challenges), but oftentimes you’ll see the people at the end are those who are doing the behind-the-scenes work of forging relationships and forming the social bonds.

I liked the reunion and I liked that they talked to Natalie. Though it’s certainly telling that no one wanted to go to bat for her and backup her assertion that she was mis-portrayed.

As for next season…

I’m still VERY leery about the mechanic (and if I’m not wrong they didn’t even mention it in the preview, which is probably a bad sign). I also tend to not like seasons with only a few returnee players, it just seems unfair. Kinda wonder if Aubry is getting the Boston Rob “you’re super popular and we want you to win one” treatment.

I felt like going Samuel L. Jackson on Angelina: SAY ‘LEAN IN’ ONE MORE TIME!

I thought Probst’s poll concerning how the players felt about their edits was interesting. Apparently the editors aren’t totally distorting reality to drive their narrative, since only Natalie felt that she was not depicted fairly.

Or everyone wants to keep open the possibility of being invited back to play again.

And, yes, I noticed Angelina’s mention of being a Person of Color. Said color being blonde, maybe?

I thought Probst asked the cast if they thought Natalie was portrayed accurately.

The reunion went kind of old school, as Probst did talk to a lot of the cast last night. Minimal audience interaction, other than obligatory little kid vote {sigh} and talking to Zeke and his partner.

BTW, I never heard of that show, “Crazy Rich Asians”, googling I see it was a movie released this summer; when Probst talked about it, I thought it was a new CBS sit-com.

The Final Four Fire Challenge is now three seasons old. Chrissy took Ryan to the final three, who got one vote, Domenick took Laurel, who got mo votes, and Nick took Angelina who got no votes.

She has brown hair.

I still think at the point when the Davids had just clawed their way back from Pagonging irrelevancy, if you told them only one David would make the final 5, they would be like “WTF, how did we blow this after working so hard?” This is papered over because that one David won. But he also won the last three immunity challenges. Do we really think he, or any David, would have made the finals without doing that? In the last several votes, they voted out a David every time except when they literally were not allowed to.

So yeah, I think they imploded spectacularly after such a great series of maneuvers to overcome the Goliaths’ numbers advantage.

That was how I interpreted his question as well. And then he just ignored Angelina (who is Latinx, BTW, or Hispanic if you prefer), when she was trying to get extra talking time by raising her hand.

I noticed that too! I am very pleasantly surprised. I thought the ship had completely sailed on any kind of useful or even tolerable reunion.

Two of the cast were missing last night from the reunion. Alec was not allowed at the reunion because he violated his Non disclosure agreement by posting a picture of him and Kara before the cast was announced last summer.

And Jeremy wasn’t there either, apparently because of comments he made in exit interviews.

I remember Alec, who I thought played a pretty good early game but then withered on the vine, but I have no memory of Jeremy.
