That would have been my assumption, unless James is still too shamed to admit having had two idols and getting blindsided.
Well, that’d be nice, but what we know about II’s is you can’t that a) they can’t be stolen from someone or pilfered some other way without their knowledge, and once found the Idol belongs to that person, unless it is given away freely. And b) once the player that held them is out, that iteration of the II’s are also out.
In past seasons, IIRC, “used up” II’s haved been re-hidden on Exile Island, so the II may return.
Yeah, once they’re actually used, they’re rehidden. But when James was blindsided with his 2 still in his possession in China, they were NOT put back into play.
Do we know this for sure? If indeed the idol was left behind at camp (which would be really stupid anyway) and the player that held it is out, maybe the idol is back up for grabs for whoever finds it. It hasn’t ever been said what would happen, has it?
I assumed that James had his two idols in his backpack and that the took them with him when he left. I guess I was supposing that Ozzy had willingly “given” the idol to his alliance-mates by showing them where it was hidden. Or that it was no longer considered “stealing” it from Ozzy since he no longer had a use for it. But I suspect you’re right and the idol is no longer a factor. Alas.
Cirie posed the plan to the 2 fan girls, got them to let Jason in, and work on Parv. Parvati was waffling whether to do it or not. She certainly wasn’t the initiator unless the editors really twisted things. Go Cirie!
I don’t know when they taped Fans vs. Favorites so I can’t say for sure, but it’s possible. Here’s how I figure it:
In the first episode of Fans vs. Favorites, people seemed to know who James and Amanda were, so we can assume they must have seen at least some of the China season.
Survivor: China premiered on Sept. 20, 2007.
James was eliminated on the episode that aired on Nov. 29, 2007. (as_u_wish, he did have the two hidden immunity idols with him when he was eliminated. He had one in each hand during his exit speech.)
The Survivor: China finale aired Dec. 16, 2007.
The contestants spend 39 days playing the game.
Even adding in some time for pre- and post-production, that still leaves plenty of time between Survivor: China’s first episode and Survivor: China’s finale show for Fans vs. Favorites to be taped. But it doesn’t leave enough time between James’s elimination episode airing and the finale/reunion airing for Fans vs. Favorites to be taped. By the time we saw the Survivor: China reunion show, James and Amanda had already taped Fans vs. Favorites.
OK, after typing up all of that and figuring they must have started taping sometime in mid-October, I find this: According to the box on the right side of the page, Fans vs. Favorites was taped Oct. 29-Dec. 6, 2007, meaning Ozzy never saw James’s elimination episode.
If Ozzy had “willed” the idol to someone in front of a camera before being voted off, then my guess would be that yes, that idol would pass to that person. Something precisely like this happened on S:China, where James got an idol from Todd.
I’m not sure that would be considered the same thing. Todd gave James the idol he himself had in his possession, but simply told James where to find the one back at the other camp. It isn’t like Todd ever actually had possession of the second idol at all; it was still in it’s original unclaimed, undiscovered state. In the (admittedly short) history of the hidden immunity idol on Survivor, it’s always been very specifically “finders keepers” and unless the “finder” openly gives the idol in his or her possession to someone else, any “transfer” (by theft, etc.) is illegal.
Now in this case it’s a bit different, in that the idol holder (Ozzy) never got a chance to give it to anyone else. If he did indeed leave it back at camp and someone else finds it, I’m not at all sure how Jeff & Co. would decide to proceed.
My apologies; I thought in your response to as_u_wish you were entertaining the notion of Ozzy’s idol being discovered and used by someone else without a direct transfer, and comparing that to James finding the second idol in China on the advice of Todd.
I was just watching the Ponderosa clips (I’d only skimmed a couple earlier), and in the one that begins with Ozzy getting torched-snuffed and boated to Ponderosa, There’s a shot of Ozzy getting out of the boat, and he apparently flips off the camera (it was blurred out).
