Okay, I admit I got a little choked up watching the tribe emailing their families back home. I’m not made of stone, and it reminded me of my time at Officer Candidate School right after I joined the Navy.
Was this the first time we’ve seen contestants’ family members on a show? That is, did they do something like this during Season 1?
Earlier I called it the way it would go: Colby would get voted off, barring immunity, and Rodger next. Colby did get his third immunity in a row, and off Rodger went. This coincidentally matches the scenario implied in the “leaked” photo. But then again, are there really any coincidences?
Not a very interesting episode otherwise. The big question here is, did Colby vote for Rodger out of tribal loyalty to Keith, or because he thinks he’ll be more beatable at the Final Two point? I don’t know the answer. Maybe one of you do.
Colby was obviously (at the point where they were walking to council, anyways) the swing vote. He would very likely know where Rodger and Bessy’s votes were going, and so it was up to him…vote with Ogakor, and remove a good man who deserved to be there, or vote with R & E and get rid of the “Bozo”. Easy, right?
Nope. I guessed which way he’d vote, and I was right. Colby has all along shown he will do what is necessary to win. When it comes to the final two, he wants to be sitting next to the guy who’s least likely to win…Keith. Even if it meant knocking out the good ole’ boy.
So at this point Colby isn’t likely to turn on Keith. But then again, he’s got to rely on keeping immunity, because I think if it comes down to it…out of loyalty, Tina would choose to be the last one with Keith, not Colby. And Keith would choose Tina over Colby. Either way, unless Elisabeth wins immunity next week and doesn’t get voted off (wouldn’t that stir the pot?) Keith is in the final two, as the one most likely to lose to the jury. Almost any way you slice it, Keith comes out second.
So what if Elisabeth wins immunity? Hmmm…now it gets interesting.
Keith and Tina will almost assuredly stick together – 2 votes for Colby. Colby and Elisabeth, anticipating the tie, would almost assuredly turn on Keith, who has the most votes against him (got two more tonight.) UNLESS…K & T get to Elisabeth and convince her that Colby needs to go, as he is the biggest threat to winning the million for each of them.
So two possible outcomes, if Elisabeth wins immunity:
1.) Colby vs. Tina vs. Elisabeth (more likely) – the winner of that immunity gets to choose with whom he/she will face the jury. A very tough choice, as they are all worthy and well-liked. I’d have to go with Elisabeth for being the least deserving among them, but no choice would be clear-cut.
2.) Keith vs. Tina vs. Elisabeth (only slightly less likely) – As before, either woman is crazy not to choose Keith to face the jury against; and Keith would choose Tina, out of loyalty.
Sorry to have spoiled the rest of the season for you all, but at least there’s one thing I haven’t determined yet…

… Who Wins? (it won’t be Keith and probably not Elisabeth, but I wouldn’t count her out as a good longshot.) Therefore, out of Colby and Tina, I’d have to go with Colby for his ability to win immunity challenges and how well he has played the game.
(How’s that pool looking, Fiver? Didn’t you have some cash on Colby?)
There was something similar on the first series. The winner of a challenge were allowed to see a video tape from his or her family. The contestants were allowed to see a short “clip” to whet their appetites. One of the women (I don’t remember her name) did not have a tape. She did poorly in the challenge. Later, while the winner was showing his tape to everyone else, she did the challenge again on her own and did fairly well. She really wanted to hear from her two daughters and it was a poignant scene.
The way it worked was, at our Super Bowl/Survivor II party, the names of all sixteen contestants were placed in a hat. Sixteen of us paid in $10 and drew a name. Then we watched the show, and the person whose champion was voted off that same night (Debb, as it turned out) got her money back. So $150 is at stake.
Interestingly, I was one of the party’s two hosts, and the other host has Keith. If either of us wins, we’ll recoup our entire half of the costs of the party.
I doubt I’ll win, though. I’m convinced that, as soon as Colby loses an immunity, he’s gone. And I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a challenge soon that’s designed against Colby somehow (“Fit your shoulders through this twelve-inch hoop!”).
Bessy (her family calls her that, and so will I from now on) just gets more adorable every week. I can’t stand it! When she’s happy, she’s adorably happy, the way she bounces around girlishly. When she’s cross, her brows knit adorably. When she’s sad, it’s an adorable sadness, the way her lips pout and those adorable tears roll down her perfectly-complected, adorable cheeks.
Oh yeah, one more thing: I predict the “surprise visitor” in next week’s show will be a recovered Michael, out of the hospital and stopping by to show them he’s all right before heading home.
[ul][li]Keith’s girlfriend is a hottie. Way too cute for Keith, IMHO.[/li][li]What a happy coincidence that the tribe “found” some fire after theirs went out. Do the producers think we are idiots?[/li][li]Colby has some anger issues.[/li][li]Bessy is still hot.[/li][li]Tina’s husband looked to be a good bit younger than Tina. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I’m just sayin’…[/li]The grammar displayed in Rodger’s typed message proved his country-boy persona isn’t just an act.[/ul]
I disagree that Michael is going to be the surprise guest. I thought that at first as well, but Elisabeth is the only one who knows him as he was injured before the tribes combined. So it would be rather pointless to bring him back. I think it’s Richard Hatch(sp?) from Survivor I. When they showed clips from next week, it appeared to me that everyone recognized who was getting off of the helicopter and not everyone would recognize Michael.
It’s not going to be Richard Hatch. None of the current crop have met Richard, so they would not be getting so excited about his coming to visit. Besides, Richard has nothing to do with this season or with the outback? What would be the point of bringing him in?
And WIGGUM, they do so all know Michael. The ex-Ogakors met him every three days for two weeks before the tribal merger, and all were concerned when they learned of his injury. It is entirely logical and appropriate that they would 'copter him in to show the survivors he was well again.
I am so bummed out about Rodger going. I was really hoping that he or Elisabeth would win. I guess I can’t hold out much more hope. I managed to stay dry-eyed during the family chats, but when Rodger took the early out for Elisabeth, I needed a tissue. What a classy guy. I hate when the good guys finish fifth :(.
I think that Bessy still has a chance if she can win the next two immunities. I’m pretty sure she’d win against any of the other three left. I mean, Colby can’t keep winning these things forever. Can he?
I don’t think it was totally out. The coals were still hot. Keith said something about what a pain it always is to get it going again every morning. My impression was that finding the fire simply saved them an onerous chore, but that they could have got it going again if they had to.
Wow, I hadn’t even thought of him.
I was racking my brain trying to figure out who it could be.
Count me in with everyone else who teared up when they were talking to their family members. Rodger was so sweet! He couldn’t even speak. He really seems like a nice guy, and I was sorry to see him go. He definately took the high road by asking them to vote him out before Elisabeth (can’t call her Bessy; Bessy is a cow’s name).
I read or heard somewhere that Rodger is already a millionaire, several times over, from a varied and successful career. He did Survivor just for the challenge, not the money.
I alraeady figured next week’s surprise guest is Michael. Nobody else makes sense. I was sorry to see Rodger go. He seems like a genuine gentleman and all around decent guy. He said that he was CEO of a bank for over 10 years and that he didn’t need the money. He was really concerned for Elizabeth’s financial situation. Apparently her mother is very ill and has a large medical bill. That is why he asked the others to vote him off before her.
Earlier in the show they made a big deal about how Keith was getting on Colby’s nerves but still he voted Rodger off. I guess that’s how the game is supposed to be played though.
My vote ultimately is for Tina. She is one tough broad and I think she has every bit of what it takes to make it all the way.
When I saw the teaser, I also thought the guest next week will be Michael.
As to Elizabeth’s financial situation, I believe her fiance is a soon to be NFL player, so hopefully, even if she doesn’t win, her mother will be adequately taken care of. (Of course, she could still need money in the short term)
[hijack] Poysyn, I was already impressed by you after “meeting” you on the phone (thank you for a very interesting conversation by the way). You’re a Survivor fan, too? Is there no end to your impressive qualities?
[/hijack]
As to crushes and Elisabeth, am I the only guy who thinks Amber is just as physically attractive as she is, if not a little bit more so? Have I missed the boat on this one, or is it that people “deduct points” for Amber’s kinship with Jerri?
My survivor prediction is that Elisabeth’s time is imminent now that her best friend there is gone, just like Amber did not last long without Jerri. A pity.
According to Rodger’s interview on the Early Show this morning, Colby did know how Elizabeth and Rodger were voting. He also said that he tried to get Colby to change his vote to Keith.
As far as the surprise guest next week, I don’t think it’s Michael. The Ogakor people aren’t going to get that excited about seeing Michael again. They’ve only seen him a dozen or so times during challenges. That’s hardly enough time for them to bond with him and get all excited about seeing him again. These people didn’t even seem to be all that concerned when he had his accident. It was like “Michael’s hurt. Oh well, I wonder how this will affect my standing in the game?”
I’ve read the rumor that the surprise guest is Australian actor Paul Hogan. Don’t know if that’s true or not, but I definitely don’t think it’ll be Michael.
Just a nitpick, but it’s Elisabeth! I don’t think he’s expected to be a superstar. It’s Hasselback the QB for Boston College, I can’t remember his first name. I think his brother is signed to a big contract though with the Seattle Seahawks.
Um, from what I draw from the other Survivor II threads I think Montfort agrees with you on that. You two should be especially happy because I heard that “if the price is right” Amber has agreed to pose for Playboy.
Rodger is one classy guy. I was really hoping that Keith would get voted off. What the hell was Keith thinking anyway? No one is going to reject a marriage proposal on national TV when the other is in the freaking outback. Anyway, back to Rodger he’s a swell dude. At least Jerri got booted before he did. It’s good to see that nice guys are moving up in the world, and are starting to finish in the middle of the pack, instead of last, like the saying goes.
About next week, I’m not nearly as concerned about who the “surprise” guest (Michael) is, but for Elisabeth! She’s losing her hair! How terrible! I want her to win so badly, she’s so pretty, as soon as she’s gone I will have no reason to watch the show. I say that the producers should’ve taken every step possible to get Elisabeth to win, she’s so hot! I’m in love with her!
Amber is cute enough but (whispering) she has no personality. Were I a guy I would even choose Tina over Amber because Tina is more interesting. Looks ain’t everything.
Which brings me to Colby. Mmm-mmm. (Sorry, I got distracted.) Anyway, I think a big reason Colby voted Jerri off before Elisabeth is because the old Colbster has a little crush on the latter. And by removing her father figure Rodger, Colby now has her all to himself.
If Keith wins immunity it will be interesting to see who Colby will pick. He may say “I’m keeping Elisabeth here because she is more deserving of the money than Tina.” but I’m on to him. He’s a man. He likes her. (And he clearly doesn’t go for the aggressive type…)
I saw Michael right after he was voted off. He lives in my area and goes to a church right by my house(Northridge Community in case you care).
While he didn’t say either way about whether or not he was the surprise guest, he made it sound like he did’t get to see many of the contestants until after the show(they have a huge wrap party).
He did mention that he, Rodger, and Elisabeth(the three declared Christians) on the show have been communicating and trying to figure out ways to spread their faith using Survivor.
