Survivor 4/21

Once you get a fire started the first time, the trick is to never, ever let it go out. If you do that you should only need to *start * a fire once.

All very true. You’re right, Rockle.

Thank Og he found somebody to put highlights in his hair.

I loved how Janu said in TC that she was quitting because she was done, not because she wanted to help out Steph, then in her exit interview, she turned right around and said she did it to keep Steph in the game. Like, “Hey, Koror? Up yours.”

I don’t know that that did Steph any favors, though. She seemed to immediately recognize the great big target Janu was painting (or, as the case may be, enlarging) on her back by dropping out IN FAVOR OF HER. Steph pretty much tripped over herself to get Janu to rephrase her “resignation speech”…kind of locking the barn door after the horse makes its break, but…

Oh, and I agree with Draelin 150%. Coby went from being (21st Century) Tim Curry’s evil twin to West Hollywood Street Party Boi in apparently 3 days.

I don’t understand Tom/Ian at all - if Stephenie is a big threat, what about Gregg? Not only is a he threat in the physical challenges, he also has a sub alliance with Jen. I would have kept Steph in the alliance and voted out Gregg. With Gregg gone - Jen, Caryn and Katie could be picked off when convenient (or kept for final 2 fodder) since they are no threats.

But Tom had immunity, so that wouldn’t make any sense. Perhaps you meant Ian.

Wow. This Survivor just keeps getting better and better. Steph clawed her way back from the abyss. She is such a stud, but she has to start being more subtle and stop relying on brute force to win-- she’s running out of options. Still, though, no one has ever talked her way out of TC like that. Incredible.

A girl alliance? There isn’t anything else for her to try, so I think this is the way to go. Tom and Ian screwed her over. And everyone better be thinking that Tom gets voted off as soon as he doesn’t win an IC.

Bleh. Good riddance. I guess this was kind of a transitional episode. It is settings us up for some good action down the road. I can feel it!

And so, the less anticipated, highly derivative RICH RANKINGS! (K or U for Tribe and Last Week’s Ranking in Parentheses).

FORGOT TO FILE A 1040- I guess you couldn’t outwit everyone!

Wanda,Jonathan,Jolanda, Ashlee,Jeff, Kim,Angie,(sniff) Willard, James, Ibrehem,Bobby Jon,Coby,Scope Mouthwash- I feel bad lumping jurors in with the also-rans, but the categories are confusing enough to be adding new ones at this point!

Janu-(K/Jerky)- They should bring back Bobbie Jon and let him sit on the jury instead of her. I said it last week. The WORST player to ever make the Jury.

EATING BEEF JERKY- You’re still playing, but you’re praying for a tribe scramble!

No one is really on the edge of extinction after this episode. It could go in any direction from here.

WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT A MERGE?- Middle of the pack players, the lotta ya!

Ian-(K/Rat)- To the shock and dismay of dolphin-boy fans everywhere, Ian takes a MASSIVE dive. Not only did he leave a tough competitor in the game, did you SEE his poker face when he was “lying” to Steph? The boy is too nice to lie effectively. Couple that with the girl power thing from the previews and you have to think Ian could be in trouble. Sweet and honest may be the proper qualities in a sig/oth but not necessarily for Survivor. Sometimes the Dolphins get canned with the Tuna!
Tom-(K/Mohawk)- Of course, to boot him, they have to beat him. But one slip and he may get the ax. His plans may have been destroyed by Janu. He WAS keeping her around against her will. It was a good plan, but what now?

HEY! LOOK AT HIS MOHAWK-You might make the merge, but you’re grimacing from the jury row!

Gregg- (K/Merge)- Gregg is the most fluid player in these rankings. It is hard to get a peg on him. I know he is supposed to be the villain because he is at work against fan faves Ian and Tom. But I like the guy. He has a great analysis of the game.

LOOKING FOR A BIG TOM TO ENGLISH DICTIONARY- Big Tom has spent more combined days on the show than anyone. But he didn’t quite grab the brass ring.

Jennifer- (K/Merge)- I think she’ll go pretty far. But doesn’t it seem like, in any possible alliance, that she is the expendable one?
Caryn- (K/Tom)- I almost moved Caryn into Rat or Snake. I think if Girl Power takes hold, it is between her and Steph. But I think she also might be the first of the girls sacrificed if they get rid of all the guys. I will say this. As a somewhat conservative guy from Texas, I am probably not supposed to root for Yankee, ACLU lawyers. But I like Caryn. She’s a pretty good player.

ARE YOU A RAT OR A SNAKE?- Reserved for a MAXIMUM of two players. You have to be in the driver’s seat for this spot.

Katie- (K/Tom)- I think it is almost certain that Katie goes to the final two. She is such a little harpie. She can’t beat ANYONE! I know Janu sucks, but c’mon. She’s on the jury! I was pretty pleased with my Jenna comparison from last week. Katie is the only person left that I really dislike.
Stephanie (rawks!)- (U/Rat)- Gregg’s right. There IS a storyline developing here. Is Mr. Burnett foreshadowing the most amazing win ever (topping last season’s record setter)? She is TOUGH. Did you see in the reward challenge how much faster she was than all of her teammates? Next to Tom, she is the highest alpha. Also, she shamed someone into falling on a sword for her! And wouldn’t it be ironic if tomboy Stephanie succeeds where Lipstick Ami failed last season? The all girlie alliance? As the Dolphin-Boy fan club feels about Ian, I feel about Steph. She rawks!

One change in my prediction- I have the girlie alliance having SOME success, but I have Gregg wiggling in there by using and discarding Jennifer.

Final Four Prediction- Gregg, Stephanie (rawks!), Katie and Caryn
Winner- Stephanie(rawks!) over Katie
[sub]Of course, Steph could fail, fall flat on her ass, and get booted next week…[/sub]

A plea to those of you who have read spoilers - could you please stop posting information from them? Even when you’re using spoiler boxes your other comments leak information.

No, I distinctly remember seeing those highlights when he was fishing for bait last week. He just has lasting fierceness!

A quitter on the jury? I don’t like that one bit.

Remember Jeff’s contempt for Osten when he quit? Now a quitter gets to decide who get a million bucks? That’s quite a reversal.

Basically Janu got to cast all the votes this week, and she gets to cast another one for the winner. It ain’t right.

Quitters do not belong on the jury.

As I see it, there’s two tiers of players now: Gregg, Ian, Stephenie, and Tom are the A-Team; Caryn, Jenn, and Katie are the B-Team. Any of the A-Team members would win the million dollar vote against any of the B-Team and all of them seem aware of this. So the strategy now seems to be for the A-Teamers to eliminate each other from the competition while bringing along at least one B-Teamer.

What’s their alternative? Have a six man jury and risk a tie? Go back and declare Bobby Jon first runner up and put him on the jury? I think they were stuck with Janu and had to make the best of it.

Sorry, I don’t see the logic in your request.

Either of those solutions work for me.

(There have been ties before, after all.)

rockle, Steph asked Ian right before tribal counsel if the plan was still to vote off Janu. He says something like “mubble, uh…yeah, mubble”. She said “I don’t think so. I think it’s me tonight.” She asked him something else (IIRC) and he just stands there looking down at the ground.

So yeah, he’s not an effective liar, but he did lie. The coolest part was how Steph called him out on it so blatantly.

I think what happens next week is pivotal for the rest of the season. If Steph manages to stay it will be a major coup for her, as this week was. If not, I think that one of the final two will be Ian, Tom or Gregg. The rest of the girls have no real shot to win this, IMO. I agree with Little Nemo’s (Hi LN!!) assessment about the A Team and B Team. I also think that Glory’s strategy would have been better than what the alliance chose to do.

He’s asking people who are commenting on spoilers to also use spoiler boxes. What’s so difficult to understand about that?

Janu knew it was only a matter of time before she was kicked off and she had lost her will anyway. All she could do was screw over the people who had been mocking her while she still had a little bit of power. Probst definitely swayed her though.

Haj

You’re right. I’d forgotten about that. Which is odd, given my usual close attention to everything Ian does.

I agree that Tom has a big target on his back. When the IC was beginning, I turned to my wife and said “Since Tom appears to be the terminator, he will win this challenge”. So his only choice at this point is to keep winning and trying to manage the alliance.

Also, before the promo for next week, I was thinking to myself that the 4 women/3 men dynamic would assert itself. I suspect one of the weaker females will try the “sista” strategy next week to go after one of the men…and I also suspect that two of the men may try to vote out the third one.

Whoever has immunity next week will have a lot of power in how the game plays out…especially if they are male.

No, I am not 100% sure, but that’s not how it read for me.
“A plea to those of you who have read spoilers - could you please stop posting information from them? Even when you’re using spoiler boxes your other comments leak information.”
That sounds like he doesn’t want anyone to post spoilers even in spoiler boxes.
