Survivor 4/3

Yeah, Jeff seems to delight in trying to force Rob’s hand in public, which always amuses me. Like last week’s tribal council where Rob made that thinly-veiled jab at Roger’s bossy attitude, and Jeff asked him, “So are you saying that there are bossy people, or that you enjoy being told what to do by the people in charge?” causing Rob to say that he enjoyed being bossed around.

Umm…have you ever actually watched the show before? Rob is nowhere near the dumbest who’s ever played. He’s not even the dumbest on this season, not by a long shot. He’s not exactly a genius (he’s no Richard or Brian), but he’s got a decent game going on. I expect he’ll make the final 4 or 5.

I think you and Madawc may be watching some alternate universe version or something. (Madawc, without going into detail, I pretty much disagree with everything you’ve said so far.)

I will be very surprised if Deena and Rob don’t make it to the last rounds.

Anyway…

I’m wondering why Butch voted for Dave. Do you suppose someone from the Alliance approached him, or did he just see the way the wind was blowing, and try to get in good with the Powers That Be? (Like when he and Dave decided to build a dock, purely out of courtesy for the other. Uh huh.) Either way, he’s toast soon.

Dave made a pretty smart move in choosing Deena to go with him on the reward. It didn’t work, but it was a good try. I wonder how much thought he put into who he would choose. Did he realize ahead of time that he’d get to take someone? (I did—they always do that. So he probably did too.)

In the IC, the Alliance avoided the mistake that the Gang of Four made in a previous series—making it too obvious who is with whom. They played it pretty smart.

Big surprise of this episode: Who would have guessed that Jenna knew the word “tactical”?

Well, actually, he had Alex and Deena pick a number to see who went with him, because they were both on his team in the first round of the challenge. I don’t think there was too much strategy there, other than him just not wanting to piss anyone off.

Yep, I can’t understand anyone who thinks Rob is dumb; he’s played several people perfectly, and he’s still around and not a likely boot for at least a round or two. Remember, most of his dumb-ass comments are just for our benefit during the ‘interviews’, he’s impressing himself by trying to impress us. The other players may gather far fewer clues from Rob around the campfire.

OTOH, the ‘only the girls are left, bye-bye Rob’ scenerio is looking more and more likely.

OT question: where do the Jury members lodge for the up to 3 weeks while the show is finishing filming? Is there some spruced up camp nearby where the camera crew and Propst kick up thier feet and watch DirectTV in the off-hours, and the Jury hang with them?

Yes, I realize that. But both Alex and Deena were part of the alliance that voted against his bloc last TC. So either way, he’d get some alone time with someone who could maybe help him.

Maybe. That’s what I was wondering. Did he pick that way of choosing off the top of his head, without strategizing much, or did he realize ahead of time that he’d have to choose someone, and seized on that method as a way of getting a member of the alliance alone without seeming to be plotting?

If so, pretty smart move.

He was obviously smart enough to realize his days were numbered, and if he thought he had nothing to lose, why not choose his best pal Butch, or his best gal Heidi? That’s why I think his method of “randomly” choosing may have been some relatively shrewd (if desperate) politicking.

Yah, that was a shocker. I’m guessing there’s s’more manuevering we’re not seeing, and Butch is trying to curry favour.

Butch has been my dark-horse under-the-radar favorite for some time – you don’t even know he’s there, which is a good place to be in this game – however, his pop-eyed look when Roger was booted tells me he just doesn’t have the wiles to last to the end. Too bad, he actually seems like a really nice fellow, but we know what happens to nice guys.

Ferrous want to enlighten me to the details? or would it turn into a flame fest? Are you telling me everything thing i said in the past Survivor threads too? or just in here? My comments on Christy/Dave/Roger or anyone in particular?

I never said Rob is a moron. So I don’t like being pushed into Cholo’s post.

Everything i said is based on the show in what i’ve seen from the beginning… I don’t forget first impressions, and everyone had a negative one, other than say Butch and Alex who rarely had good air time in the early goings.

Alternate Universe? nah, I think what i see and what i opine here are valid perspectives of all the contestants. I can see how people can like them, but I tend to dislike them more for other reasons.

oh well, am i weird or is Deena looking hotter? those twigs arent looking better than the so called “fat pig”.

Rob seems to be in control in next week’s episode. Maybe an omen to his demise? I think he needs to get rid of a woman next week, but it more than likely seems as if he wants all the women to himself.

Oh and i loved that pompous ass’s last words… A Naples’ saying blahblahblah, fer God’s sake you’re American, a rocket scientist that needs to make sure he’s smarter than everyone around him. we don’t need to hear quotes from other lands, just say you got beat and glad you’re on the jury…

next week should be good, unless Butch is next in line. I hope some kind of jockeying of position gets done. Or some kind of epiphany hits the men’s oblivious heads that the women are gonna take them all out. Did they even remember the order of that Immunity challenge? Matt, pompous ass, Alex, rob, butch, christy, deena, and heidi.

I hope deena clues in to jenna’s strong bond with heidi. Or any of the men realize they have big ass targets on them. Should be nice to see Butch win immunity next week and the fun begins one week earlier. If he doesn’t win, he’ll get booted.

Whoa, good catch. That didn’t even occur to me.

I like Rob, except when he moans about the girls. However, “twigs and sticks” was damn funny. I don’t care if he is hamming it up for the camera or not, as long as he keeps the one-liners coming.

I loved Matthew’s look when Heidi said she thought it was funny that the guys picked each other off first. For a second it looked like he had a clue that the guys were sinking themselves. Heidi made it sound like it was still the girls against the guys and from what I’ve seen, it still looks that way. Maybe the guys will get together and try to do something about it before they’re all voted off one by one.

Yup, I think Heidi’s comment might well serve as a wake up call to the guys. My guess? Next week we see a much more split vote with one of the women, probably Deena, in position to be booted, maybe against Matthew.

My prediction for next week:

Time to turn the tables: I think Butch and Christy may have enough of a bond that they can work together - Butch for his own survival and Christy probably still feels like an outsider within her group. If they can convince Matt that he’s being played by Rob and that he’s more likely to get the boot because of his strength than Butch, then he changes sides. That’s three, then if they can get Alex convinced that he’s not part of the Deena/Rob/Heidi/Jenna alliance and he’ll be picked off, then they have evened out the voting and it would be down to a 50-50 split at Tribal Council.

Can they (probably Matt) win a tiebreaker (I’m under the impression that they use the Q&A tiebreaker and not the previous votes method) and take control of the game away from Deena et al?

From my purely prurient perspective, I’d like to see Jenna and Heidi NOT finish in the money (final 4) so that they’d be more likely to agree to doing a pictorial in Playboy. Or, better yet, a faux-lesbo spread in Penthouse!

As I am feeling good on my earlier call (which proved correct), I will make another one. The only shocking thing is no shocking thing will occur even though Burnett & Co. are still desperately trying to make it look like we are not in the traditional “4 weeks of boredom” while the losing team gets swept out. We are.

The key is whether Matt and Butch make a move or go like sheep. Matt is not too bright, but may catch on. Butch is on the hot seat and a miracle will only save him for a week (Matt getting the boot early).

Robb, while not the dumbest player is not clearly as clever as he thinks. His only hope of winning is not facing the person he has allied himself with.

Deena on the other hand may be able to beat Robb or Heidi. She will not want to face Christy or Jenna. So to win, Christy and Jenna need to go. Also the boobsy twins can take control after this vote if they get one person to work with them. In any event Robb will not be in the game as nearly long as he thinks.

Mark my words- the next two weeks are Matt and Butch, only the order is in question. The smart vote is Butch first, but Matt is unpopular.

When was the last time we saw Christy conspiring with anyone? Is she actually part of the alliance, or is she just along for the ride?

Assuming that each player gets equal confessional time, I wish Burnett would give us someone else to listen to besides Rob. A little of him goes a long way.

And I really dislike the “cutting each other’s rope” IC. It’s not fair that someone who answers all questions correctly loses immunity. You should be able to win immunity through your own abilities–not lose it through the conspiracy of the other players.

jsc - I don’t think Christy would initiate a switch, but Butch obviously needs to do it and she seems like the logical person with which to start. Plus, I think Christy probably knows better than Matt or Alex how tight Jenna/Heidi/Deena are and that they’ve excluded her in the past.

Consider your words marked, and I will certainly refer to them next week when Alex or Deena gets the boot. :stuck_out_tongue:

Matt is not a strategic threat to anybody, and he’s a good person to have against you in the F2. Butch is isolated, strategically harmless, and under the radar. Both will continue in the game for at least a couple more shows.

As indicated by the previews, next ep is a power struggle in the main alliance between Deena and Alex, with Rob in the middle and loving it. Rob has no great love for Alex, and his alliance with Deena has been paying off so far. Look for an Alex boot.

I agree that Rob had doomed the men… including himself. Next two weeks: Butch and Matt go (in any order). Then Alex, then Rob, then Christy. The final three will be Deena, and Sticks & Twigs, and then it will depend on who wins the final immunity (with the edge going to Deena, who is the strongest and smartest of the three).

Even though I hate when these contestants blame the editing, I really think Jenna might have been referring to Dave with the “fat pig” comment (and I loved the line too).

They cut immediately to that quote after Deena asked for fish but she never said “when Deena asked for that, I thought…” or something like that. It was an immediate cut. But later she clearly says that she was more annoyed with Dave than Deena when he was asking for food.

I just don’t think the way it was cut means she called Deena the fat pig.

By the way, they were being fat pigs.

Isn’t he also the one who is catching all the fish? It seems to me that Dave and Matt have been responsible for catching all the fish. They’ve already voted off three of the fishing folks (JoAnn, Jeanne, and Dave). As much as they are creeped out by Matt, they should probably keep him so he’ll continue to provide them with fish.

That is, unless some of the other bozos have started taking up that task. I rather doubt it. They’re spending too much time plotting.

Well, I guess you have a right to ask for clarification of a blanket statement like that…

No, I don’t foresee a flame fest. I’ve got nothing against you personally, I just don’t agree with your take on the contestants. More of a general tone thing than real specifics. I think you exxagerate.

As for “everything you said in past Survivor threads”, the only other time I’ve really noticed your comments was last week, where we disagreed about Christy. You say she’s a whiner, and “plays the deaf card”. I say she displayed some regrettable, yet understandable emotion in previous shows, but not lately. And I think she’s a valuable player. Not the best, but not useless. But we’ve been over that.

No, I didn’t mean to imply that you did. I disagreed with his take on Rob, and yours on Deena, and said so in the same post. Sorry to lump you in with him…you at least seem to have watched the show, even if we disagree on some things.

Well, that’s sort of what annoys me. You flat out state that you decided early on that you disliked everybody, and you have no intention of changing your mind (or cutting them any slack for being in new and stressful circumstances). I just don’t feel that’s conducive to a very useful analysis. Just snarkiness for the sake of it. Not that there’s necessarily anything wrong with that, it’s just not how I like to approach the thing.

For some more examples, I don’t think Deena is as annoying as you make her out to be, and a lot smarter and savvier than you seem to think; Dave isn’t as pompous as all that—he’s a basically likeable guy, just young and yes slightly arrogant, but not too bad (though I agree, that Tibetan quote was a real eye-roller); Matt is sort of creepy, but not a mass murderer—that bit was overplayed in the previews. There’s a few other points, but I think you get the idea…

So anyway, suffice to say we seem to be looking at this game in totally different ways. I think in the future I should avoid responding to your Survivor-related posts, so we don’t have to do this every week. Nothing personal, mate, and in no way a comment on what you may have to say about anything else

One more thing though…

Here, we are in agreeance. She’s the only one who’s actually looking better after four weeks in the jungle. Amazing.
