Survivor 4/3

I do exaggerate…Trying to spice up the show i guess. but how fun is it not to call matt a murderer, christy a whiner, dave a pompous ass or roger a bigot?

In reality, i would think matt would be a nice guy to hang out with. Seems to be genuine in his bond with Rob though being played. and wasn’t he one of some mag’s most eligible bachelors?

Christy is getting better, but that’s cuz she really isnt getting “quality” air-time. Fitting in well, but not making good strong bonds. (as we see it)

Roger is probably a control freak, but he knows he can rub people the wrong way. He may have sexist/bigoted tendancies, but at his age or generation the specified gender role was more than laid out. I don’t blame him for that.

Dave, although he can be a “one of the guys”, i doubt i would like him in real life… I knew people like him at my years as an undergrad engineer, I never told them they were pompous asses, i just steered clear of them period. If you are smart, you don’t have to make sure you’re SO smart. You don’t have to use big words, you don’t have to be verbose and add three more words when one would do just fine.

It’s like this… and kinda getting off topic… the reason why i LOVE wayne gretzky (not cuz im canadian and we all love hockey up here), is that he was never bigger than the game that gave him SO much. He always knew he was the greatest ever, but he NEVER acted like it when he retired.

Now on the flipside, the detestable Michael Jordan. Okay, I know you are the greatest basketball player ever (or in my lifetime) but for Gawd’s sake do you have to act like you’re the best? Do you have to make yet another comeback to stroke your ego? Oh wait, people forgot about your skills that you needed to show how good you are again? Let basketball run with the new talent and sit out you old coot.

oh and the Deena thing… she has a nice smile. I think that’s what gets me thinking impure thoughts. hehe.

I don’t think I ever called her retarded in this game. I do consider her to be smart and cunning, but seems like she’s becoming more of a feminist roger. With this control of the game, she has a seemingly over-confident aura going on. I hope she gets that in check to keep her target a little bit smaller than say Rob’s or Alex’s.

The matt being a murderer thing… I think I had that exaggeration going long before this episode was aired. It was weird when they had last week’s preview lay it out as i was making him look like some kind of psycho. I never knew that he was rubbing the others some odd and eerie way. He just looked like how John Malkovitch looks to me, always the bad guy.

The people I’m rooting for are the underdogs in next week’s episode. I want to see say Butch, Christy, Matt to do some damage. They aren’t plotting well or at all. I want to see some kind of power struggle at the top like the preview tried to hint. But the order seems like those three will be on the chopping block next, which order, only time will tell.

Yep. But while being lazy and unproductive is sometimes a reason to kick somebody out (esp. early in the game), being productive has never been a reason to keep someone around (esp. late in the game).

If you’re ever a Survivor contestant, Grace, you’ll never make the merge.

See, if I were Deena, I wouldn’t want Sticks and/or Twigs in the final 2 with me, with all those hormonal young guys on the jury. I think she’d be safer bringing Rob along with her. She’d get all the female votes that way.

Ah, that’s not true. Rich used his fishing and spearing abilities to his advantage during Survivor 1. He was the primary provider for that group and they knew it. What Rich did better than anyone else was combine his talents to secure his place in the final 3. He didn’t alienate himself by being just the fisherman. He also plotted, schemed, and formed alliances. They needed him because he provided for them, but they also needed him because he was part of the group. Rich didn’t spend all his time plotting and being completely useless to the rest of the team. Has anyone else this season done that? Rob keeps talking about outlasting the other guys because he’s building alliances. That may have been true, but eventually they’re going to realize they’re going to have to provide for themselves and I’m not sure these folks can do it.

Probably not. But then I also won’t be the moron on the show who gives TPTB plenty of ammunition to make me look like a schmuck and/or bitch on tv.

It doesn’t really matter how you look to the viewers in the final edit of the show, or in the confessionals to the cameraman.
It’s how you look to your fellow Survivors while you’re playing the game.
And I agree with Smeghead; Deena does not want to take Sticks and Twigs with her to the Final Two. None of the guys will vote for her over either of them. She should take Rob. She’d get all the girl’s votes, and some of the guy’s votes.

Chiming in late here (I had some computer trouble).

I think Dave deserves credit for playing as well this week as he could under the circumstances. He knew he was all but doomed but he tryed to turn things around. The way he didn’t try to go for a total reprieve but just asked for “three more days” was especially clever. But the odds against him were too high. In retrospect, Dave’s biggest mistake was sending the other young guys out of his sight. He should have let Jenna pick Heidi and Shawna for her team and tried to send Rodger and Butch over. Alex, Matthew, and Rob instantly abandoned their original team at the first wink.

Rob continued to be an ass. People are talking about Matthew, but Rob’s the one I could most readily see going up a tower with a rifle. He’s full of hostility and resentment, he hides his personality around others, and he thinks he’s a mastermind. The man truly has the makings of a serial killer. That said, I think Deena plans on bringing him along to the final two. As others have said, Deena knows she’d lose the guy vote against Heidi or Jenna and would probably lose their votes against Alex or Matthew. Rob’s manipulations are probably more apparent than the editing makes it look, so he’s probably building up some resentment.

The question I see is whether Matt or Butch goes next. Butch is the last remaining member of the old alliance but he’s wisely lying low and doesn’t act as a threat. Matthew on the other hand is annoying people and is seen as a physical threat in the challenges. My guess is he’ll go next.

Random thoughts after further reflection:

  • Deena and Dave broke the unwritten rule: if you get a reward feast, try really hard to bring some back for everyone else. Showing up with that brownie (sans ice cream) for the others sure coulda knocked a few votes off Dave’s total, and stopped the kvetching afterward. Dave should’ve thought of this.

  • It’s interesting that several people think Deena shouldn’t bring the Stick Sisters to the final four because the guys would vote for the Sticks. Any reason other than Legs & Boobs that the guys would do so?

  • Anyone have a guess at my OT question? Have former contestants elaborated about this? Thanks. :

Legs & Boobs is all it would take. In fact, in a pich, you could skip the legs.

I believe they set up three support bases. One is the site the production crew uses which obviously has to be near the player camps. The producers also book reservations at two area resorts; the pre-jury losers stay at one, the jury members stay at the other. I don’t believe they have any regular contact with Jeff Probst or the taping crew after they’re voted out.

Loser Lodge and Jury Lodge have frequently been the same place, often of necessity due to the remoteness of the filming locations. In Marquesas, they actually rented some kind of cruise ship and parked it off the coast for the crew and cast, since there were no hotels anywhere nearby. (remember the cruise ship Pascal and Neleh went to for a reward, and all Neleh brought back was a half-eaten mint? That’s the one.) When they do stay at the same place, however, they send the pre-jury losers somewhere else before the jurors start to arrive. Sometimes, that means sending them traveling, sometimes it just means shipping them off to another hotel.

This season is a little different. I don’t think they’re doing production camps this time around. The producers rented out an entire eco-resort (the Ariaru Hotel) for the duration of the filming. The crew stayed there for the duration, and it was also home for booted cast members. No idea where they sent the pre-jury folks before Dave showed up to take his third and most shameful shower.

Losers and jurors don’t meet up again until the flight back to Los Angeles. That’s why lists of friends from contestants booted early often reveal who they spent time with at loser lodge. If Joe Blow is friends with Jane Doe even though they were in different tribes, Jane is almost guaranteed to be a pre-jury boot.

I wish Christy would say something in sign language. Not doing so isn’t very ‘deafish’ of her. I saw more sign language in the previous Survivors from hearing people.

Where do you acquire this sort of information, minty green?

Sites like SurvivorNews.net, RNO, Survivor Maps, and the Survivor Sucks board (which is chock full o’ spoilers, so I’ll refrain from a link). The cast members give plenty of interviews, and what they did after they got booted is a frequent question.

I do, too. If one of the other contestants knew some ASL they could get some secret strategy in there (if one of them didn’t blow it, ala Mandarin Chinese). She did use a sign this week, but it was the first one I’ve seen, and it seems odd that a person who went to Gallaudet and works with Deaf people wouldn’t subconsciously use ASL. I do, and I’m still learning it. Maybe she doesn’t want to use it in front of others, thinking they’ll see it as a weakness.

Nothing to add, really, but I did love every time Christy was talking about Matt and she said creepy with the little hand gesture

With that said, I think that Christy is safer now than she has been, and that Roger will be the next to go. I’m pulling for Deena, and can’t wait for Sticks and Twigs to make their exit, although I don’t think that is anytime soon.

Umm, I think you mean “Butch”, the other older man. Roger (the bossy loudmouth) was already voted off.
