Survivor 49 - Premiered 9/24/25

Usually if they get pulled before the challenge, tribal council still happens. If they get pulled after, tribal council it’s cancelled.

Well, that was certainly an episode. An episode where things happened. Yes, yes they did ::sigh::

  1. I understand the tribe switch. It was scheduled for 14. But damn.. One team is nearly all women, and one team is nearly all men. This never works out.
  2. Rizgod? Made me laugh the whole time.
  3. I’d like to have seen more of Matt. He was interesting. But the fact that they even threatened puzzle-guy was a bad idea. He’s been very, very useful, and now he’ll be less helpful to the group, and more into looking out for himself.
  4. I didn’t find any of the interactions pleasant. There’s nothing as annoying as a person that’s recently discovered religion, and the fact that they can’t get away, is just… bleh.

The challenges were OK. Nothing special this time.

It was also unfair. The Red team had EARNED their rewards, so have them penalized by having to go to the Blue teams base- where they never bothered to try and get food or build a decent shelter. Why should six people be penalized by the incompetence and laziness of the blue team?

There was also a telling scene where the new blue team was coming back to base with armloads of coconuts. Plenty of food on each base- fruit, coconuts etc.

And I liked Matt, sorry to see him go. Note that they voted off the strong competent guy for the wimpy guy, ensuring they will lose again.

I agree, the new tribes should have been Yellow and Red. the Blue Tribe was decimated and should have been eliminated. Red and Yellow that went to the blue had earned the rewards and should have gone to the beach with nothing.

And producers should give (and not take away later) flints to every tribe. The tribes are penalized enough by having to vote off a tribemate, taking away the flint is insult to injury.

Seem like a better strategy for the challenge was to build the tower from top to bottom rather than bottom to top. The boxes didn’t appear heavy, so why not lift the tower (of small boxes) and slide the big boxes under the tower.

One team is nearly all women, and one team is nearly all men. This never works out.

Incidentally, the team with five guys (Yellow Tribe, Rizo, Nate, Jawan, Matt, Jason) lost and the team with two guys (Steven and Alex) which is surprising because the challenge was more physical than mental or skillful (IMO).

And Savannah, whom we dont care for, got LOTS and LOTS of screen time for some unexplainable reason.

Ugh, the sooner Riz and the born-again Christian are off my screen the better.

Wait, who is the born-again Christian? The lady I saw was more, uh, generally spiritual and hippie-dippie or something. Hard to explain, but I didn’t think she Christian particularly.

Don’t know her name. She kept going on about Jesus, it seemed like she was a new convert. I don’t know what her faith actually is.

The editors tipped their hand. When they showed Matt’s confession about his job history, almost immediately followed by Matt fumbling the challenge…I called it. Yellow will lose and Matt gets the boot.

Savannahs comment that anybody who rises to the lofty level of branch manager must be a sociopath was one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard. And kind of offensive

The second-stupidest was “that’s diet food!!”

I agree!

I was disappointed that we didn’t get to see Savannah chowing down on the diet food. Maybe she opted out, since it wasn’t what she was hoping for.

It was not Savannah who bitched about the fruit reward. It was purple Sophie on the original yellow tribe.

Yes - you are correct!

I’m curious – I don’t watch the podcast (actually, don’t watch any at all) but did the subject of the new tribal divisions come up at all? It really seems like it was the worst result possible from the perspective of the game runners.

It’s not the first time there’s been an uneven tribe swap and it won’t be the last. Jason and Matt pretty much played it as horribly as they could acting still tight with their old tribe. They should’ve immediately said that they were so happy with the swap because they were on the outs with their old tribe. That gives incentive to work with them.

Dagnabbit.

  1. Again, I really enjoyed the competitions. Well thought out, and with enough areas for people to really screw up :).
  2. I really enjoyed seeing some of these interactions. But the annoyance at Savanah adapting her speech and topics to each person really surprised me. Its Survivor, they’re been there two weeks, and of course she’s trying to ingratiate herself with other players.
  3. I liked the Sandbags competition. And OF COURSE they should have known there’d be more to it. And I think Nate played it perfectly, although I’m sure it will come back to haunt him.
  4. I was hoping beyond hope that Steven had a chance. I liked him and his gameplay.
  5. I’m glad they acknowledged the weather out there. I don’t think I’ve seen the tribes sweat so much.

Good episode. Sad to see Steven go.

Do you mean Shannon? Savannah is the reporter. Shannon is the religious quasi-hippie.

Ugh. You’re absolutely right. I thought I had the names correct, but I’ve mixed them up again. I will go sit in the Corner Of Shame, and think about what I’ve done

Doesn’t help that I think there are also two Sophias. And a Sage.

Survivor producers have a knack with picking players with similar names

I remember Survivor Game Changers when they had Sarah. Cerie, Sierra, and Ciera

More recently:

Survivor 46 had a “Maria” and “Moriah”

Survivor 44 had a “Matt”, “Matthew” and a “Maddy”

Survivor 41 had an “Erika” and an “Eric”

Its difficult to keep track of the players when they have distinct names, let alone names that are similar.

The challenge last epi was something where brute strength was handy, but of course the team voted out the strongest dude and left in the two wimpies.

Savannah came is, sat down next to Jawan, woke him from his nap by her endless, endless chattering, and then complained he was “listeneing in”.

Here is a cast list for all
