Great ep. Christy’s little hissy fit confirms how clueless she was all along. Didn’t anyone else see Butch as possible strong support for her? She and Butch are just floating along. Can’t imagine the grief Butch will get when he returns to the school after his drunken embarrassment, allegedly shitting trou, and “the alliance is just too strong.” Buy a clue, fella.
Got a major kick out of Rob’s near disbelief that he can continually lie to everyone, and then the next day get them to trust him. Can’t last him the whole way, tho. Poster above is right about him flying by the seat of the pants.
What previous examples are there, where an alliance broke up and reformed so quickly in response to one player’s actions? Impressive. Until Christy was reclining on the logs, I SO did not see it happening. And then when she said “I’m in the driver’s seat…” You knew she was toast.
At this time in the series, I’m always surprised to find it is so close to over.
Actually, I’m not sure that Richard Hatch WAS a fluke. Look at last season - Brian did the exact same thing as Richard did and Rob is trying to do. He lied to everyone and told each one of them that it was going to be he and (insert name) in the final two. He always admitted to the camera that he was lying out his teeth and that trusting him was dumb. And when it came to the end, he got savaged in the final TC with some really pointed bitchy questions. But they all voted for him anyway b/c even though they didn’t like him, they admitted he’d played the game well.
Also,
I’m not sure that’s exactly right either - but maybe I’m just arguing semantics. In the Outback Survivor, they all got to talk to their families for a few minutes via chat, but only Colby got a “real” visit (from his mom when he won the car). Also, there was one other Survivor where someone’s mom came and spent the night with the tribe (in Marquesas Survivor it was Kathy’s son - but they all still got to hug their loved one there so that’s not the season I’m thinking of).
Not too\ mention he almost got voted off a few times. Ethan was the best player who won, IMHO. Colby the best who lost (after making the classic mistake to taking the wrong person to T.C., but his outright dominance of the I.C.'s was amazing).
This season has been the most fun in a while, mainly due to the morons getting run off early, and the complete failure of people to learn from the mistakes of others. The massive amounts of hubris have been great. I got the feeling the twists are not over yet either.
Are you talking about Richard or Bryan? The quote you referenced refers to Bryan, but he never received any votes at tribal council during the 39 days.
Anonynmous Coward: The spoiler mentioned above has nothing to do with the play of the game, so your season will remain blissfully unspoiled.
Wow, what a show, huh? Never saw that one coming. I was really, really hoping that one of the Boobsie Twins would be shown the door last night. And now I have no idea how next week is going to play out. You’d think that the guys would be smart enough to realize that they have to break up the Boobsie Twins, but who knows?
This was a great episode. I have to agree this seems like one of the best seasons ever. So unpredictable every week.
Here’s what I was confused about. During Christy’s meltdown confessional, she was complaining about finally giving some trust away and knowing she shouldn’t have and then talking about how she’ll make sure her “evil stepsisters” don’t win. ??? She isn’t really blaming Jenna and Heidi for her getting voted out, right? It’s not like she actually “gave any trust” to them and agreed to join them only to get stabbed in the back by them; afterall, she voted FOR JENNA. I didn’t understand what she was talking about there, suggesting that she had finally decided to trust them only to be stabbed in the back by them; she didn’t trust them, and she wasn’t stabbed in the back by them; if anything, if she did indicate to them that she was going to trust them, SHE stabbed them in the back by voting for Jenna, right?
Anyway… I liked Christy and would have rather seen Heidi hit the trail this week. I’m kind of glad Jenna’s giving away of immunity didn’t backfire, though, because if it had there’s no way anyone would EVER make that mistake again; now it’s always possible somebody will give it away at a key time and it will be costly.
Finally, I think what the producers are showing us this season is how Rob is able to keep sneaking through every week, but I think they’re also giving us all the clues we need to see that Matt is the one who is playing this game in a slightly different, but equally effective manner. He wins immunity and other challenges when he needs to, makes the right decisions, and comes up with “good fuzzies” for the others when he needs to (like giving up the reward this week for the greater good, etc.). The only thing that would really shock me at this point is if the winner is not either Matt or Rob.
Oh… one last thought. Did anyone else hear Heidi during one of her tirades about Rob talking about how she’s “given up stuff for others” during this game? WTF? Should this just be taken along with her “the two things I bring are my brains and athleticism” comment… is she just truly delusional or what?
This ranks right up there with her being outraged that Rob betrayed their alliance, when she had done the very same thing at the first opportunity after the merge. She had gone over to the new tribe with the agreement that the women would stick together, and at the very first TC, she jumped ship and voted with the guys.
Rob is hilarious. He truly deserves to win this game, because he has controlled it himself. If the other players are too stupid to see that and refuse to vote him off, that’s their fault.
Christy, what were you thinking? No one is ever the only one in control. Any one of the 4 in the alliance could turn at any time, and no one seems to remember that except Rob. The jury is filled with people who were sure they were not going to get voted off, and thought they were the ones in control. It is so great seeing each person come to the tribal council completely confident, and walk away stunned. Rob has picked all of them off, one by one. I think he is my favorite player of all time. He is the only one out there with any real strategy, he has been smart from the beginning, he is willing to switch when he has to. I think people might be suprised at the end too, if he makes it to the final 2 I think he does have a chance at winning. People do respect playing the game well and are reluctant to give it to someone who “coasted”.
His biggest threat by far is Matt. Matt could present a real case for himself with his physical strength, he has played a decent game physically, which is something, but not the most important part I don’t think. He isn’t the brightest one, though, and really is only still there because of Alex’s mistake last week. He would be gone if Rob didn’t turn on Alex.
I did post that it wasnt really a spoiler but a timezone thing.
However, that “gambling” scandal you read about has no spolier inkling about it. I’m just saying that I know the scandal and yet this game is still interesting because I can see the methodology in which the final 2 are using to get there.
And please, don’t be offended by all that cursing in my posts. I just needed to vent a bit. The rage needed to explode.
Hmm. You may be right -if so, I stand corrected. I just remember watching that last episode and it seemed that every single person totally savaged Brian -I was positive Clay was going to win. And then then they all said “but you played the game well” and voted for him anyway. But you’re right, winning by one vote certainly isn’t the same as “everyone voted for him.”
Cricket
Singular1 I tried to look it up and figure out which season had the mom visit for a night - and I can’t find it. Maybe that was Colby’s mom. Ah well…
I think that that Alex’s mustache is called a Fu Manchu. A handlebar mustache is like the one worn by Salvador Dali or Snidely Whiplash.
I’d like to address this.
Yes, Christy has faults too, but the difference between Christy’s faults and Jenna and Heidi’s faults is that Christy’s faults are a lot more forgivable.
Christy is somewhat whiny, quite tactless, and seems gullible. But these are not fatal faults. I have no problem rooting for someone with these faults. I would have no problem being friends with someone with these faults.
Jenna and Heidi’s faults, on the other hand, are much much worse than Christy’s. They’re incredibly vain and conceited. They’re not kind. They’re lazy. Jenna has an unbelievable sense of entitlement. Heidi is remarkably stupid. All of these things are important enough to make me dislike them both heartily. I would not be friends with someone like that.
Christy’s faults aren’t as bad in an absolute sense, and when seen relative to Jenna and Heidi’s faults, they seem pretty minor.
And I hardly think Christy’s been shown as an angel. We’ve seen her do a lot of whining. We’ve seen her blame others for her problems. We’ve seen her being very clueless about game play. I think Butch has been shown as being far more “angelic.”
Did you all notice what the editors chose to show of the conversations between each player and his or her loved one?
(paraphrased}
Christy: “I’m in the final four.” —Oo. Foreshadowing!
Rob (whispering to mom): “I’ve been a bad bad boy!” Mom responds by laughing and hugging him and saying “I knew it” or some such. —reinforces the idea that Rob is playing, and playing hard, and that he is keeping his sense of humor about things.
Butch: “I love you so much!”—Reinforcing Butch’s good honest family man persona.
Heidi: “You three are on my mind all the time.” Mom responds with how much Heidi is missed.—Shows that she is loving and loved. A good thing.
Jenna’s dad: “Your ma’s got a case of the shingles.” Jenna: “Really!?” Good lord, do the editors hate this girl or what. We don’t see her being loving. We don’t see her being funny. We don’t see her being warm. Everybody else was shown in a good light (except for Christy, for obvious reasons.) But not Jenna.
I liked the bit at the very beginning, when Heidi is trying to schmooze Christy. Jenna is there next to them, but not looking at either of them, and with a stony look on her face. Demonstrating that Jenna can’t even pretend to tolerate Christy even with a million bucks on the line.
I completely agree with your above comments about Christy, BTW.
