Survivor 5-4

No, you are most definitely not. When he came around the brush, “Freaky Friday” popped into my head.

He can use it through the final four. In other words, he has to use it this next episode or it’s not going to be used. He’s guaranteed a spot in the final three.

Surprisingly interesting one tonight. I was impressed.

I remember them saying “into the final four” or to that effect and that’s how Terry is playing it. I think, if he has the opprotunity, Terry will want to take Danielle into the final two and will try to set things up accordingly. But he hasn’t exactly been the strategic master here. I don’t think he has the people skills to read the other players well enough (letting his egotistical thinking get in the way). Cerie is much better at that than the rest of the remaining members. The question is now, if Terry can figure out how to stack things to keep Danielle in and get Aras out in the final four tribal council. Can he plan a strategy that will work both if he wins immunity, (figuring out how to give away the necklace and then use the hidden idol to swing the votes towards Aras) AND if he doesn’t win the immunity and only has the idol left? He’s going to have to set up things before he knows whether he wins or not so he’s got to strategize just right. My guess is that Cerie will be thinking along the same lines and doing her won calculations to counter his. Aras will be meditating on the karmic repurcussions of physical prowess and Danielle will be checking the water to see if it’s still wet. Ooops, maybe I should have put a spoiler box on those last two.

So are we down to the Sunday night three hour Finale?

Lockseer, obviously you are much closer to the players than any of the rest of us but I didn’t get this interpretation at all. Especially when Aras said, “She’s my rock.” I’m glad that Aras is close with his mother but to compare that relationship to a husband/wife one is kind of icky.

Since you know Aras, do you get a sense of how he feels about the way he’s being portrayed? The producers seem to be making him out as a whiny brat.

Arrogance aside, Terry deserves kudos for letting Shane spend some time with his son. I would also have given the other hotel-overnight to Cirie and her husband, but despite the fact that I don’t even like Shane, I would never have dreamt of keeping him away from the kid.

That said, Shane’s complete surprise at being ousted tickled me quite a bit. The only problem is, there’s nobody left that Terry can take to the final two that would be a solid lock for him to win.

Oh, my God.

I think you’re my long-lost twin.

The SECOND he came out last night, I turned to ElzaHub and said “Hey, Shane’s kid is a 13 year old Jodie Foster!”. Then we made some incredibly inappropriate jokes.

Terry impressed me last night, but I’m still pulling for Cirie to take the win. Granted, no one’s going to want to take her to the final two, but I can hope.

And yes, Aras was a jackass last night. I love my mom, but if it’s a choice of spending time with my husband or my mom after a long absence, my husband’s going to win, hands-down.

E.

My take on the Terry/Aras argument was that T really should learn to keep his mouth shut.

Why did he think it appropriate to go on and on about how “easy” the choice was? Could only end up pissing someone off. He should have just said, “Man, it was impossible to choose. I’m sorry I couldn’t take everyone.”

Of course, when he had to choose I wanted him to say, “Screw all these people. They have been nothing but jerks to me. Can I refuse to let any of them even hug their loved ones?” And the mean part of me wanted him to stiff Shane just to see Shane implode.

Regarding wife vs. mom. Of course T was devaluing relationships of unmarried folk. But the whole world revolves around T, and what is important to T should be important to everyone else. OTOH, my 16 year old son said, “No apologies, mom - but if I get to be 24 and don’t have anyone closer to me than my mom to spend the night with, I’d think that’s kinda pathetic.”

I liked T’s answer at TC, “It’s always hard when you are placed in a god-like role.” My whole family essentially said, “Good thing you have so much experience, T!” What a tool. He and his wife are made for each other!

I don’t like T, and can imagine him being incredibly obnoxious IRL. But he has been excelling in a pretty incredibly hostile situation for some time now.

No, that’s on May 14th.

I think Terry is a gold plated ass. I hope his eyes get stuck one of these times he rolls them. Does he think the jury can’t see how condescending he is? If Terry can downplay the parent-child relationship so easily, what could his justification possibly be for rewarding Shane and his son rather than Cerie and HB?

And could somebody with TiVo/DVR help me? I could have sworn the IC rules said that only the contestant’s feet could touch the platform, but clearly Terry was holding the platform as he pulled the flag. Can somebody replay the instructions?

Thanks

I’m pretty sure Jeff said your knees and your butt couldn’t touch the platform.

I don’t feel sorry for Shane, there were some big clues that he was the odd man out of the alliance. Cirie takes Danielle and Aras to the spa. In the game, Shane was the answer to the question about “who is delusional about running the game.” Shane is left out of the decision to vote for Courtney. Big signs!

There’s a difference between a 13-year-old getting to see his son and a 20-odd-year-old getting to see his mom. It would have been a no-brainer for me, as well, and Aras going off about how he missed his mommy would have made my eyes roll so far I’d be able to check my optic nerve for lesions. There’s something supremely pathetic about a grown man having tantrums over not being able to spend the night with his mother when there were husband/wife and father/actual-child relationships to pick.

Scratch that…it should be “a 13-year-old getting to see his father”…

Course there was Colby getting all close to his mommy in the (modified) backseat of his new car in the Outback!

I agree in general, but I would have put Shane and Boston in camp. It would have also limited Cerie’s time for scheming, but maybe Terry hasn’t figured out who the big plotter is.

Regarding the roll-eyes: How can you tell if Terry’s eyes are rolling? Somebody else is talking.

I completely agree on the overnight choices - Terry/wife, Cirie/husband, Shane/Boston but I was surprised that Terry chose Shane and Boston to overnight at the resort. You’d think Cirie and her husband would appreciate a bed and some privacy and Boston would really like hanging out at camp! Of course, maybe Terry was acting strategically (hey, it’s possible!) getting some time with Shane to talk and ensuring that Cirie didn’t get a good meal, comfortable rest.

I’m actually liking Terry’s chances more and more - guaranteed a shot in the final 3, could possibly earn another immunity to dispense as he pleases and probably won’t be responsible for the next ouster (the jury is made up of people voted out by Cirie/Danielle/Aras).

Sure he’s arrogant, but he’s backed it up with an impressive string of victories with a certain grace in the face of camp hostilities. He’s still bringing firewood, water, fishing even though no one at the camp seems remotely pleasant to him. Considering how arrogant and rude Casaya have been since the day La Mina merged, I don’t find Terry’s attitude that offputting.

I know this was an unintentional error, but it’s a great analysis of Shane.

It’s possible that Terry’s decision to ‘denigrate’ Aras’s relationship with his mother will be what keeps him from winning.

Assume that both Terry and Aras make it to final three, along with whichever of the women you please. Assume that the final challenge is an endurance one. (Haven’t they all been?)

If Terry wins, fine, he takes whichever of the women is left to final two and beats them: he gets the votes of the Laminas, plus Courtney and Shane will no doubt vote for him rather than Cerie/Danielle who stabbed them in the back.

If Danielle or Cerie wins, they probably take Terry and hope for lingering tribal loyalty to carry them through. (I don’t think it would.) I think either of the women would lose to Aras.

The killer is the third possibility: that ARAS wins. He will take the remaining woman. Not as a strategic, who am I more likely to beat? decision, but because he WILL NOT risk Terry winning it all. He hates Terry enough by now that he’ll risk a slightly greater chance of ending in second rather than first, for the sheer pleasure on ensuring that Terry is out at Third.

If I was sitting in that Tribal Council listening to Aras prattle on, you’d have to duct-tape my head to keep my eyes from rolling clear out of it.

I think Terry’s choices last night may have provided clues to what counts for strategy in his flying-by-the-seat-of-his-pants world… his last best choice for F2 got voted off last week specifically because she was his choice for F2; he doesn’t want to single out anybody as his next choice, so he took Shane to the resort, who he’s not going to take to F2. I think his choices as to who he can beat are pretty slim these days…

Aras seems to be a bit of a jerk, but nowhere near as much as he was around merge time.
Cirie has that awesome Cinderella-story staying power that’s worked well for several other people; plus, mother of three…
Danielle hasn’t really screwed over anybody but Terry (and the other La Minans…)
Shane is a total fruitcake, but they’re beginning to see why, and his insanity is starting to make a certain sense, which will gain him emotional support.
