Survivor - 5/4

I think Philip could possibly win this thing if he is in the final three with two other Ometepes. He could tell the jury (speaking directly to the old Zapeteras) that the only reason the other two Ometepes brought him to the final three was they all knew he couldn’t win. And because of that, the ONLY way to vote against Ometepe is to vote for Philip. Any other vote and the game plays out just like Rob/Grant/Ashley/Natalie wanted.

The only way to screw over Ometepe at that point is to vote Philip. I think the Zaps might go for it, and if so, that’s enough votes to win it.

I think that’s his best strategy, but I really don’t think it’ll sway Steve, Ralph and Julie. He might get Matt and David. Either way, he’s got an uphill battle.

I think that, by and large, the juries vote for who they think played the game the best. Voting against a tribe just because they beat you? Maybe a few, but I don’t think most would.

I liked the first couple of seasons when they had to do more “surviving” - eating rats, eating bugs. Now they eat better than I do. And where’s the free cars?

This show has jumped the shark. I think it happened when they had their all star season. My opinions of all the returnees changed when I saw them twice and it was a lower opinion in every case. Some examples: Rupurt turned out to be not so smart and not so much of a pirate. Colby turned out to be lazy and indifferent. Hatch turned out to be some kind of pervert. Sue turned out to be a quitter. The list goes on. Johnny Fairplay turned out to be a big loser…wait…he always was a big loser.

I don’t know about that. Someone mentioned that Steve had lost 40 lbs. Even with exaggeration, you have to be severely calorically deprived to lose 5 or 10 pounds per week.

I don’t think they were really “surviving” more the first seasons. Did you see how much stuff they had to begin with in those first few seasons? They had loads and loads of equipment. I think the biggest difference is now they can win fishing gear, so they don’t turn to rats for protein.

For the record, Rupert was always pretty dim - he’s the guy that thought it would be a good idea to dig a shelter into the beach below the high tide mark.

If you watch the Ponderosa videos on the CBS website, the first thing they do when they get there is to be weighed. Everyone has lost between 15-20% of their pre-show weight. They’re still starving, but I think the editors cut out all the whining about food because it really got boring the first few seasons.

That’s another thing I don’t like about Redemption Island - the time used to show the challenges has meant the death of reward challenges. They were often more dramatic than the immunity challenges - people really, really wanted to win a trip to a resort for food and a bed and a shower. You also had the pecking order exposes, which shook up tribes and eliminated some of the straight Pagonging like we’ve seen this (boring) season.

I think the Zaps are more than willing to make an anti-Rob vote even if that mean that they will cast votes for Rob. They are the same crew that threw a challenge so they could vote out Russell.

I don’t. They’d be giving their vote to a lesser Omatep - the very same Omatep they’d previously approached, telling them that they’d end up voting for Rob since he’s the only one that made any moves. In their position, I’d much rather vote for Rob than a follower.

Should have said “…cast votes for Phillip

Russell basically got shut out at FTC in Somoa and Heroes vs Villains, and he was the Alpha-Player both times. Especially in Somao. Parvati was more alpha (stealthily) than Natalie,

Richard Hatch made his mark partially by being the fish provider. That had a elasto-spear (or whatever it’s called ) in the first season.

I think it was season 3 (Africa) that was the most difficult, food wise, and they sort of made it so no one got that bad again. Of course, those guys had their food washed away in a flood, so that was part of it. But there’s no doubt the first few seasons were much more difficult in the food department.

Okay, I forgot about the fishing gear in the first season, but I really don’t think they had it that much worse.
I mean, look at all the crap they started with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7PcNuCqDio&feature=related

And the whole rat eating incident came in a whopping 6 days after the show started. They had rice, they weren’t starving (any more than any other season at that point). I remember reading an interview with either Burnett or Probst where they talked about how they gave the first season so much stuff because they had no idea how tough it would be out there. They started toning it down later on.

I think you mean season 4 (Marquesas)- survivors weren’t given any food and had an extremely difficult time gathering anything on their own- Jeff said they were down to 200 calories/day for the group, one of them suffered kidney damage, and allegedly all four finalists were hallucinating and having trouble moving in the last several days.

You’re probably right. I was remembering the time when Elizabeth’s hair starting falling out (in the Africa season).

Elizabeth Hasselbeck (née Filarski)? That was the Australian season (season 2).

Well, I thought it was Elizabeth (yes, of the H variety) and I thought it was Africa, so it was either someone else (skinny, blonde chick) in Africa, or EH in Oz.
I’m a huge *Survivor *fan, but I have trouble remembering the various seasons.

Marquesas was Rob’s first season, tropical island, I think there was some fruit available.

IIRC Africa was the season where the rations were bad. and very little water.

Elisabeth was in Australia. And that is where the flood wiped out their supplies. Colby traded his Texas Flag (luxury item and makeshift Tarp) for more rice. There was not a lot of native food there. Jerri made some ‘tortillas’ from grass seeds and water.

Personally, I don’t like to see them absolutely miserable. The Samoa season (Russell’s first) was terrible with the rain.

I am glad that Production gave them shelter supplies this year. i wish they allow them more clothes. (Exhibit A, Phillip’s Pink Panties).

I don’t think they should be allowed to steal from each other. (Exhibit A, Phillip’s Pink Panties).

I just watched Season 1, Episode 1 on youtube.

Wow HUGE difference in 12 years. The production, the editing, Probst. The Challenge had no Probst Narration. Tribal council was not contentious at all. Probst did no digging.

the first challenge was getting to their tribe site. Last time I think it was big deal to get to the tribe-site was Tocantins.

The early seasons made a big deal about the map to find potable water. I don’t remember seeing a tribe doing that in years. Apparently the potable water for one of the tribes was quite some distance away in Season 1. I have no clue where they are getting water this season.

The Pagong tribe made fire w/o flint or matches. I didn’t think that was done until much later seasons.
