Survivor 50 - All Stars

Wow, Ozzy took that hard. That was difficult to watch.

Btw: in post #59 I mentioned that the Kalshi betting market has identified an overwhelming favorite to win Survivor 50. That person is still in it.

OK. Not so thrilled about this episode. It kind of lagged compared to the other one. And sheesh - I thought we were done with letters.

  1. Splitting the tribe was just bad. It took all the previous scheming and planning, and just threw it to the side. It totally wrecked the momentum in the game.
  2. However, I did like the Power Broker twist. That was an interesting change, but not at this late stage in the game.
  3. As soon as Cirie’s name came out of Emily’s and Devin’s mouth, I knew they were done for. I’m pretty sure Devins goes next week.
  4. Oh, Ozzy… Ozzy… ::sigh:: You were the brawn, Cirie was the brains. Going home again with an idol in your pocket. ::sigh::
  5. LOVED the Competition drama. I thought the “wait wait wait” thing was just part of the twist, not a real rule-changer.

I only liked this episode. Not as much as the others.

Considering that the split tribal has become a standard part of the post-merge, I do hope they bring back the power broker.

Her plan could’ve worked if Cirie didn’t have the extra vote. And really, it the only move she had. There was no way to get Cirie, Tiff, and Jonathan to turn on each other. And I don’t think Devens would’ve fallen for giving her the idol.

I think that was the idea: let’s just throw a grenade at all the alliances and cause total chaos

Ugh… hated that. Plus it gives one person WAY too much power, Mr Jeff.

By my math, there was a 1 in 7 chance of Devens, Ozzy, and Rizo ending up in the same group, meaning the remaining person would be idoled out like Cirie was. Not sure what would’ve happened if the four person successfully played a SitD.

Oh.. My.. if Cirie had gone out with no votes against her again… The chaos… the chaos..

I haven’t looked at the spoiler but I wonder how many of the production crew actually know. It’s probably quite a few and I bet it’s hard to keep it under wraps.

If they REALLY wanted to introduce a twist, they wouldn’t hold a final vote until after all of the episodes had aired and the jury was able to see all of the backstabbing that went on.

That would be terribly unfair, considering production is in charge of what makes it to air.

Not only that, outing everyone’s plans would be equally unfair.

Yeah, but he only has himself to blame. Blabbing to Aubry and treating her like jury chattel. And worst of all NOT PLAYING YOUR IDOL! At this stage you need to be playing your idol, you can look for another one when you get back to camp.

Also, did Cirie get an extra vote at the re-vote?

Yes. In order to keep the anonymity of the second vote, they had everyone re-vote again. If they’d let Cirie go up and cast her single vote again, people would have known.

Sorry, I’m not following.

OK.

In a normal tie, the two people being voted out don’t vote, and the remaining people vote. So, if this was normal, Cirie and Emily wouldn’t vote, as their votes would cancel out each other. The three others would determine their fate.

However, Cirie had an extra vote, and that had to be honored by the game. So, Cirie had a vote, but Emily didn’t. In order to keep the “secrecy” of who had two votes, they had both Emily and Cerie vote. Cirie cast two votes, Emily cast one.

Original vote: Cirie uses Extra Vote, so 6 votes in the urn. 2 votes Devens (do not count), 2 votes Cirie, 2 votes Emily.

Revote: Cirie’s Extra Vote is still active, and Emily can also vote (to disguise which of them was the Extra Voter), so there are still 6 votes in the urn. 4 votes Emily, 2 votes Cirie.

Thats why everyone, including Emily, voted on revote. Production can’t just announce that Cirie has or doesn’t have the extra vote by saying Cirie can vote but not Emily, or that neither can vote , since the extra vote is still in play.

OK, thank you for taking the time.

I was under the impression that things like extra votes don’t count in re-votes. In essence she got 2 extra votes.

Has the team of judges ever had to over-ride Jeff?

Not that I can recall. An interesting peek behind the curtain (including the fact that Standards and Practices is present, presumably to ensure that all games are on the up-and-up).

Jeff has talked about this stuff. As a reality show, some people initially thought they influenced the games direction by changing what games would be played along the way. No, all games are presented in order to a government overview to show the game is fair.

Yep, we were yelling at him to play his idol.

And Cirie got to use it twice!

IIRC, the show is actually over, so they all know now.

IIRC, once Jeff did confer with them once before , before making the call.

Voluntarily. Survivor is under no obligation to follow (the fairly strict) game show rules because Survivor is a reality show, not a game show.

However, anyone can sue anyone for anything. Whether they can win or not isn’t all that relevant; getting dragged to court sucks and nobody has time for that. So Survivor voluntarily abides by game show rules as much as possible to avoid that.

It’s not hypothetical on production’s part, either. After the first season, Stacey Stillman sued production on the grounds of rigging, claiming that producers persuaded two people to vote her off in order to save Rudy. That was settled for an undisclosed amount, presumably because production definitely didn’t want it put out there that they were rigging the show even if they’re allowed to.

EDIT: Games show laws specifically apply to games of skill and chance, like a Jeopardy or Plinko type situation.
