Survivor 50 - All Stars

Given a choice between

a. 30+ minute of some B-celebrity fishing, cooking and singing
b. 1 minute of Probst rapping to start an episode

I will take Probst rapping every time.

Apparently many, if not most, fans hated the episode.

I can do without Coach (does he really believe his own BS?), Cirie, and Rizo.

We didnt hate the episode. But too much of Zac.

Mike violated my #1 survivor rule (or perhaps #2… “always play your idol if you’ve heard your name” is probably #1).

If the vote isn’t you, don’t change the vote.

There was no reason to try to “save” Angelina. All it did was convince Christian that Mike was dangerous. Much better to let her go and try to solidify the grouping with Christian, Emily, and Ozzie.

Most players at least partly play with their gut - you have to without perfect knowledge. The data Christian got was (a) Mike was eager to change a vote to save a player not in Christian’s alliance and (b) Mike was willing to try to emotionally manipulate Christian to achieve that result. With those two pieces of information it’s not a surprise at all he targeted Mike.

You can add in that Mike was actually really good at the manipulation - which while a positive factor for Mike is a negative one for Christian.

Good points all. It will be interesting to see how his relationship with Emily continues.

Well, that was interesting. A predictable vote and a surprise vote. Jeff actually does some decent impressions, especially of Colby and Christian.

Next week things get ugly.

Well, it worked out this week. I think Christian was right to give Ozzy the shot-in-the-dark, but not sure if it was necessary or not. Since they were all locked in on Angelina I think there were probably some editing shenanigans to make it seem more “up in the air” than it really was. The fact that Angelina voted Steph (which was the decoy) makes it pretty clear there was never really an anti-Christian vote planned.

On the other tribe I think Charlie just got too emotional about Rizzo and the “big dudes” got too comfortable (like “big dude” alliances often seem to). They didn’t seem to consider that perhaps Kamilla and Dee wouldn’t want to be the fourth and fifth in a “Jonathan/Charlie/Devens” alliance. A bit odd that Kamilla sussed out that Rizzo was lying about Kyle but ultimately didn’t care. Perhaps the sign of a good player - able to make strategic decisions without the emotional “I was lied to!” baggage.

Dee seems to have found her Austin for this season (Rizzo). We’ll see if Rizzo can keep his head on straight where Austin couldn’t.

Clearly Dee/Kamilla/Cirie/Rizzo is likely to be a pretty formidable block going forward (with an idol too). Jonathan in particular better hope he can carry that tribe to a few immunity wins or he’s a dead man walking.

Speaking of Jonathan, I loved the women immediately calling BS on the “Jonathan asked about the idol” claim. His lack of strategic play must be shocking for them to so quickly realize there was no way he asked about something as obvious as an idol.

Angelina took that extraordinarily well. Like, “very much looking forward to a bath and a good meal” well

Yes. Watching this episode (and last) it seemed clear that Charlie was way too emotionally invested in hating Rizzo to make smart choices for himself. He’s clearly got some unresolved trauma from season 46.

It’s interesting to me how being back in survivor is triggering for so many folks this season, in different ways.

I would write if off to editing except he always seemed so dark when he talked about it.

On the other hand, I’m no fan of Rizzo. Does he honestly think he’s a legend of this game or is going to be considered so? He has Coach (oh, excuse me, “The Tide Walker”) syndrome.

I found the comments, at tribal, about not knowing your status in the game until you see it play out on TV, interesting.

He even brought it up again when casting his vote. Not sure he could have saved himself, but having such a single-mindedness is never good in the game.

Contrast with Ozzy (apparently) burying the hatchet with Christian at least for one vote. I think that if Ozzy had been more hell-bent on getting Christian out immediately, there is a decent chance Christian could have rallied Emily and Angelina to get Ozzy out, or flipped the “Steph is a decoy” into “Steph is the target”. Gotta keep your options open, and realize that sometimes the easy vote is the best vote.

Absolutely. There is so much information we have that the players don’t that it’s very easy to wonder what they are doing or how they don’t realize what’s going on. Every season there is at least one player that seems to have no idea how they are perceived by their tribe. It must be pretty painful to go back and watch - I know I couldn’t handle it.

Another reason whey I think there were probably more conversations that locked down what was actually happening, and which Angelina was not a part of. That didn’t feel like a blindside to me. I feel pretty confident she knew what was going down.

Exactly. I always take how it looks like people feel with a huge grain of salt, but Charlie’s confessionals were so angry and dark, as you say.

As Cirie always says, “Anybody but me”.

Nor could I. I imagine in some players case it is quite shocking.

Another enjoyable episode!

  1. Bitter Ozzy is Bitter. I don’t think Christian is safe from Ozzy’s eventual wrath.
  2. I think Ozzy must have an Etsy storefront for ponchos, or something
  3. Rizzo and Cirie? I’m all for that.
  4. I’m really wondering about the Aubrey edit. She looks so angry and ineffectual.. but I’m wondering if its a reverse-winner edit, and she’s like a finalist.
  5. Again, loved the competitions. One Johnathan dug a hole big enough for his shoulders, he knew everyone else could fit. :).
  6. LOVED how Camilla handled the idol discussions. You’d never know she knew. Can’t wait to see the reaction videos on TikTok from Charlie and Rizzo when they saw that.

I’m looking forward to the merge next week. My nephew and I are betting the “huge change!” is in voting, and that the top two vote-getters in an eviction leave.

I love that she immediately clocked that Rizo’s claim that Kyle told him to work with her was BS.

I’m really enjoying watching a season full of actual good players playing the game. But even good players like Charlie can get too caught up in their own emotions. The conditions on the island clearly mess with one’s psyche.

Maybe not, but if Christian becomes Ozzy’s white whale, the tribe may prefer getting rid of Captain Ahab. Similar to what happened to Charlie.

The discussion about being able to watch yourself on TV clearly struck a chord with Rizo. He’s cocky but he’s not dumb, and he may have more self-awareness than I give him credit for. Right now Camilla, Cirie, and Dee are letting him think he’s calling the shots because he is a useful number for them. Can he summon enough introspection to figure this out? Stay tuned.

If they truly do a full merge next week -with what, 17 players? - that could be a fun kind of crazy. But I hope they don’t do one of those deals where half the tribe has immunity, or splitting them randomly and having two TCs. I want to see the chaos!

Honestly? I didn’t know if that was a lie or not, as I totally didn’t remember, or if it was an off-camera interaction.

Rizo admitted as much in a confessional right afterwards.

Well. I’m a bad viewer then  I’ll go stand in The Corner Of Shame, and think about what I’ve done.

I want Rizzo voted off ASAP. Absolutely nothing about the guy is likable.

Am I the only one who never really liked Ozzy and find him kind of pathetic?
