Survivor 50 - All Stars

She engineered a vote to take out Charlie for some unexplained reason.

Why did no one call out Coach for voting out Colby?

Because there’s no difference between a 3-1 vote and a 4-0 vote.

So much for my powers of clairvoyance. Chrissy really got stuck with a bummer of a partner. Oh well, at least he’s gone now.

Chrissy chose a bummer of a partner.

I don’t bother keeping track of who’s in which alliance. Did the pairs align with alliances, or were there “mixed marriages”, so to speak?

I can’t believe that fake-idol-at-TC plan actually paid off!

I’m wondering about how the numbers will work out.

My gut feelings follow (none of these based on evidence, it’s just what seems like 'how it’s been.)

There are about 13 episodes in a season of Survivor. (?)

Last night was episode 8 of this season. (I know I read that said somewhere, stated factually, but I don’t remember where.)

There are now 11 players left in the game. (Okay, this one I’m sure of.)

The ‘typical’ pattern of the season finale has five people going into some challenge, and someone getting voted out. Then they have the final four with two of them (chosen by the winner of the 5-contest) competing in the make a five, resulting in one eliminated and the final three for the last TC/final vote for a winner.

If the above assumptions are roughly correct, that means they have to get rid of players from 11 down to 5 for the start of the last episode. Six people must still go. In, possibly, just four more episodes? Meaning what? At least two more multiperson vote offs?

Or will they have a slaughter fest? Episode 12 (or so) they convene for a TC, and vote someone gone. Then Probst announces “we’re not done” and they hold another vote immediately? And a third after that, and even a fourth???

Have there been any leaks/announcements about how the season will play out?

Joe and Tiffany, and Jonathan and Christian were definitely the mixed marriages. Rizzo and Emily are sorta aligned through Cirie and Ozzy but not strongly together. Aubry isn’t really in an alliance with anyone, but her and Devens make sense.

Another great episode! Extreme kudos to the editors. This episode was tight, well-focused, and gave a great development of the vote.

  1. The Survivor Gods are really, really looking out for Cirie. There couldn’t have been a better challenge for her to get sat-out on.WHATEVER pair Cirie had been on would be targeted, as there’d be no better way to get her out.
  2. 2,000 coconuts? TWO THOUSAND?!. I was literally screaming at the TV, telling Cirie to start a grid search, to mark out areas in the sand in a square, to do something bloody logical! But darned if she didn’t pull it off. It was a great exile.
  3. Excellent competition. They’ve done a phenomenal job this entire game. I can only imagine the HOURS it took to set up 7 of those lanes, but then again, the Survivor carpenters are used to that.
  4. Great team pairing. Johnathan and Christian were awesome. Rizo and Emily scared me.
  5. What an excellent payout to the fake idol! I seriously think it saved Devins. And he played it well.
  6. Has a shot-in-the-dark ever worked? I remember that it might have once, but good gods…

Loved the episode. Very happy to see things play out.

Yeah, at least once that I can remember. A couple of seasons ago Mary was saved by her Shot and Cedrek changed his mind after a deadlock and multiple rounds of voting. It was pretty lame. I don’t remember the other ones.

Looking at the overall stats it looks like 18 have been played and 3 times it has been “Safe”. Hey… one-in-six! This season is 0-for-3 though.

As you might imagine a player saved by the Shot in the Dark has never gone very far. Once you get tho that point of desparation it’s pretty hard to come back from.

IF they’d known that they were being paired up for immunity/elimination, the smart thing to do would have been to pair with somebody outside your alliance. In effect, to hold each other hostage (“If you take me out, your buddy goes with me!! Ha!!”. But they didn’t know.

They must have multiple competition sites, right? So the carpenters can be working on multiple set-ups simultaneously? (Plus get those anonymous production assistants to run through the competition for the “rules explanation” shots)

If you search Google Maps for “Survivor Tribal Council”, it shows you the island. Tribal council is on the west end and there are at least 3 challenge areas on the east end.

.. You know, I’d probably have gone my whole life without thinking of doing that! That’s nifty as all heck! Thank you, Nars!

I wonder if there’s gentle rivalry between PA’s to get the coveted back-of-the-head runthrough slots.

Devens played that HII gambit almost perfectly.

  1. He constructed lies about how he knew where the idol was located.
  2. He did not want to show it to anyone because of Knowledge of Power
  3. He told Aubrey that he couldn’t play it at this Tribal Council.

The only thing he did wrong was that he found the fake HII in the first place he looked. He should have looked under a couple of other rocks before he found it. If he gets to final tribal, I think he wins.

Coach is insufferable. I am really glad he is gone. Will he ask his final tribal question in the form of Haiku?

I don’t mind him. He is who he is. We all have seen through it since his first appearance.

I want Cirie to win.

Agreed. Watching this season made me realize that I’m completely over old white men who think that they’re ever utterance is profound. Go play racist cosplay back in your van down by the river.

Wow I take back all of my derisions at Rick planting that fake Idol way back when. That was played perfectly! Can’t believe it worked! And took out the most annoying player in the game. Really impressive.

Just quoting myself from back then for a little back-patting. It went down just about exacxtly how I predicted he would try to use it.

That said, based on what we saw I think Coach/Chrissy were going home anyway. Jonathan seemed a bit flummoxed, so it might have made it more unanimous, but Chrissy voted for Emily & Rizo (by herself) so it doesn’t seem like an alternative plan was every really on the cards.

I am very tempted to see how many of Coach’s “quotes” are actually real. I loved the “either Sun Tzu, or Nietzsche, or a random investment guru” quote.

She sorta had a plan.

Yeah, about one time in six…

Naw. I am rooting for Ozzy.

I’d be just fine with that as well.

You can tell Cirie is on her second game in a row. She lost a lot of weight on Survivor AU and she is looking quite thin here.
