Survivor April 8, 2010

What no post until now?
Well, all i can say is Sandra is pure genius. She knows the Russell type and threw out the idea that Coach wants him out next.

Another genius move soon to happen is the fact that Russell sees what the other tribe might see. Being that he’s the only guy left and he’s on the outs with his own tribe of all females, giving him a power move when the Heroes come crawling to him for a team-up. He shoulda kept that nugget to himself and not tell Parvati. Now Parv can think he’s playing both sides and not trust him as much. Seeing the Villains fall apart without B.Rob is good too. But merge is coming soon, if there is one in the first place, and the Villains are losing their numbers advantage with the losing streak.

And what about that preview for next week? I assume the “goof-ball” move is not giving the idol to Russell(though I would love that). I wonder what it could be.

THIS is the Sandra from Pearl Islands. I haven’t seen too much of her this season until now.

Seriously, Sandra masterminded Coach’s vote. If Russell thinks it was him, he’s deluded himself to thinking he’s God’s gift to Survivor. I love how she played Russell for a fool with that little lie about Coach’s change of heart. Sandra also saved the always funny Courtney. I love her confessionals and snarky responses, so more of her is a good thing.

The preview is a good nugget too. I really hope JT becomes the stupidest Survivor ever. I really dislike the Heroes team and hope none of them win it all. Don’t forget to watch the extra footage CBS puts on youtube, that stuff is pure gold.

I’m thinking the preview is just a hook and he won’t actually do it.

Tonight’s episode seemed a little anti-climatic compared to last weeks. Nothing really BIG happened. But what was the deal with the vote. Russell voted for Courtney but the rest of alliance voted for Coach. He didn’t seemed too surprised though. Is he just playing Coach for the Jury Vote?

probably, but did he know in advance that from starting with Coach the jury is chosen? And what’s the deal with Danielle changing her vote to Coach? wasn’t she the one all crazy about keeping the tribe strong for one more week? Geez that was a fast flipflop on gut feeling.

It bugs me that these people don’t see, or don’t care that Russell is Chaotic Evil. He should have been the first person gone, and it looks like he’s going to at least survive through the merge.

Educated guess. His season (also a 20 person season) had 9 people in the jury, so he figured it would be the same this time.

Speaking of guesses, what the hell was with the Villains packing all their stuff? Normally in a merge, don’t the producers go ahead and ship all the stuff over to the new camp? And what if they were going back to their old camp? You know Rob would not have let that happen.

Sandra played Russell brilliantly. I bet she, Russell, and Parvati are the final three, with predictable results.

Yeah, I’ve suddenly become a fan of Sandra’s. I didn’t see her original season, so this episode was the first time I’ve ever seen her game.

I think Russell expected Courtney to go home. I’m looking forward to his tantrum next week.

The only explanation I can think of to explain the final vote is that Russell’s continued talking about an all-girl alliance started to sound like a good idea to the girls. (Except Jeri, of course, who single-handedly torpedoed the season for Boston Rob, Coach, and no doubt herself.)

A truly Chaotic Evil person, like Russ makes for a perfect Kingmaker, as the winner of the last season can attest. What you gotta watch out for is a mastermind masquerading as a Chaotic Evil Kingmaker. Those people can pull a U-turn at the end and persuade the jury for votes based on Outwit. This is Russell’s strategy, but he deluded himself into thinking he is a persuasive person.

As far as packing your stuff, in past seasons the aired footage seems to indicate the stuff in the abandoned camp was lost. The fact that experienced Survivor contestants brought their stuff seems to bear out that theory.

Although the preview for next week has been spoiled upthread, I will put my speculation in a spoiler box because that has been the convention for past Survivor threads:

The fact that JT said he wanted to give his idol to Russell seems to indicate a merge with the Heroes tribe down one tribe member. But then again, it could just be a throwaway line (!) based on the Heroes planning ahead (that doesn’t come to fruition if there is still no merge next week.)

I think I watched the clip of Hot Amanda squeegeeing mud off her boobs about 10 times.

Ahem. Sorry.

Anyway, we’re once again screwed by the editors. It’s really unclear what just happened and who motivated the vote for Coach. I couldn’t tell if Russell was surprised or not. I don’t know who flipped for who, it got all mixed up at the end and the vote was a mix-master of things we’d heard about but weren’t sure were credible.

The producers are laying the foundation for JT giving the Idol to someone not in the hypothetical Girl Alliance on the Villain, which means Russell. I’d be amazed if the Heroes think they can bank on that. OTOH, the Heroes planted the idea of a girl-power alliance with the Villain players at the reward challenge, so maybe the Villain girls decided that was a great idea and ran with it? This would spell doom for Russell if they don’t merge, and doom for all the guys if they do; there are remarkably few guys left. On the gripping hand, there’s never, ever been a girl-alliance that held together for more than one or two episodes on this show, so I think I’ll discount that for now.

God, I love the bumper videos of the island that they make and show in 15 second snatches after commercial breaks. Some are old hat, but then they do a few that are breathtaking, either time-lapse coolness or macro work with tiny things. There was one this episode with a teenie blue and white spider that was awesome.

Coach’s exit speech was what I’d expect, self-righteous dissembling.

On that one season the girl alliance lasted practically the whole season, carrying Chris on to victory. Sure, Chris was a dude, but still, that girl alliance held strong.

Almost forgot:

I like the comeback of angry, scheming Sandra. Sadly, I think maybe someone in her family shamed her for her previous season, since she doesn’t let loose with st, fk, or motherf**ker every other sentence like last time. Damn, I miss that.

Also, it’s unclear if things are magically transported to the New Camp after a merge. There have been times when the new camp was one of the tribe’s camps, and stuff from the other camp was never seen again. But it also seems that “personal items” have magically made the crossing (e.g. Amanda’s glasses might fall in this category), so the Villains might have had the right idea, just the wrong timing.

Really? My memory is foggy*, so I’ll take your word for it.
*I still can’t remember who the hell Danielle is, even after looking up that she was a runner-up on S:Panama. She’s changed her look a bit since then, but I’m damned if I can remember her from then. Or even now!

Yeah, the editors are screwing with us

If you look at this CBS video on Youtube, you’ll see Russel saying
“This is supposed to be a vote that I just throw off. I hope it works.”

It’s not clear if this was just his own strategizing (maybe to get Coach’s jury vote) or if this was something that he planned with others.

There is just a ton of stuff that happens and we only see a sliver of it. It’s becoming a bit ridiculous. I guess this has always been the case, but lately it’s making me enjoy this game much less.

BTW, I just found out a spoiler of the order of elimination: The link is below, and if you go there, you need to click one more link if you really want to find out the final 3: http://www.realitytvspoilers.net/2010/02/survivor-heroes-vs-villains-major.html

It was written in February, and it has been correct so far. I just found it today and checked it, because I was getting worried that some of the people I dislike the most will make it to the finals. Based on what I saw there, I was right, so I don’t think I’ll be watching the rest of this season much.

Yeah, I really thought it was gonna be Courtney based off the editing. They obviously cut out a ton. I guess they felt they couldn’t show us any of the decision-making without giving away that it was gonna be Coach.

With Rob gone, I’m rooting for Russell to go and the Heroes to triumph, but… I dunno. As much as I hate Russell, everything certainly is going his way. Maybe the Heroes don’t screw up and give him the HII, but I can still seem the falling for the “all girl alliance” and opening themselves up to an attack. As fractured as the Villains are, I don’t know if any of them will jump ship on Russell simply because they figure they’ll be 6 and 7th if they join with any Heroes.

Kinda disappointed we’re getting a Final 3, too. They’re never as interesting as Final 2s.

I hate Russell. He’s easily my least favorite Surivor ever. Hell I’d rather be locked in a room with Johnny Fairplay and Richard Hatch then go anywhere near him. Why didn’t sneaky enjoyable Sandra use her obvious powers to get him voted out instead of coach?

Maybe she thought she couldn’t get enough votes to actually do it. Danielle and Parvati wouldn’t have voted for him, Coach and Jerri aren’t trustworthy enough to try and sway to her side. She would just be putting a larger target on her head by trying to oust Russell. I think she is waiting until merge to try and get something done about him.

Once the merge happens, Sandra will go to Rupert and tell him that there is no “girl alliance” and that Russell is the puppet master. Then they may have the votes to get rid of him then. The problem with my little theory is that JT can/may be easily manipulated by Russell, which I truly hope will not happen.

When/where did you hear this? I must have missed it somewhere. Thanks!

Never mind, this time I actually READ Polerius’ entire post!
