Survivor Finale - 15/05/2005 - West Coast Edition (UNBOXED SPOILERS)

At least it eventually did get picked up. Upthread I mentioned that after the crew pulled out, someone went diving and retrieved the torches - they sold them on Ebay.

rockle, good catch! I’ll let you know if they post the opicures and cartoons on the Stern website!

Throw in a couple of cute dorks in swim trunks and that could be the Best. Season. Ever!

Missed you earlier comment. Thanks for the edification!

I see your point; but bear in mind that not all ruins are necessarily sacred–just because it’s an ancient structure doesn’t mean its a temple or a burial ground. They could be playing on the Mayan equivalent of a Starbucks.

I can’t even begin to describe how humorous my mental image of that is. Thank you so much.

So that’s how the Mayan civilization fell- too many Starbucks. . .

BTW- Ian goes into the Strong but Stupid Hall of Fame for Survivor wing with Colby.

:smack:

I have a question - Jeff Probst said it was the Maya culture and that they would live among the Maya ruins, like the Maya people, and that it was called “The Maya Adventure.” Even the logo that popped up said “Maya”.

Isn’t it Mayan? What happened to the “N”?
Or is it now un-PC to call them Mayans?

Maybe, despite the images shown to the contrary, they will really be hanging around with a lot of Central American mallrats named Maya.

I, for one, welcome our new mallrat overlords.

They’re synonyms. Often, Maya refers to the people, the land, and the language, while Mayan is used as an adjective. But not always.

Anyone else get “Reality Finale Hangovers”?

It is kind of a MILD depressing feeling of knowing that we spent all season getting to know a little about these people and then the only other time we will get to see them is if we happen to catch them as “experts” on a VH1 or E! special.

Unlike Athletes, Survivors won’t be back next season in Spring Training.

Unless they’re Amber and/or Boston Rob, who will never go away and, in fact, will probably be battling the cockroaches after the Bombs go off. Those two are seriously like the Reality Undead, zombies, walking around looking for brains.

<creepy old guy in monster movie>Be very cautious. Such things are quite dangerous. They are the unquiet dead, hunting the living for the attention they need, feeding off of those easily fascinated by mundanity. They are…the Lookatustwo! Thunder claps, lightning flashes </cogimm>

If you think they’re bad, don’t watch any of the “Real World/Road Rules Challenge” shows on MTV. Those people are like reality tv professionals for god’s sake. A couple of times a year, they come back for the competition. I think I’ve seen a couple on at least 5-6 seasons of various shows and I barely even watch them.

Will “Rob & Ambuh Have a Baby” be the next show?

That’s not a reality show. That’s a terroristic blackmail plot!

“If you don’t send us another million dollahs, we’re gonna breed!”

[KKKendra]They just keep breeding and breeding!!![/KKKendra}

They’ll be everywhere.
“Rob & Ambuh Decorate Their New House” on HGTV.

“Rob & Ambuh Have a Baby” on TLC’s “A Baby Story.”

“Rob & Ambuh Go To Marriage Counseling” with Dr. Phil.

Then they can do Counsumer Counseling Credit commercials after they blow through their millions.

Personally, if it had happened that Ian had kept his dumb mouth shut, and Tom had ended up taking Ian to the final two, I would consider it somewhat stupid of Tom. But I would also respect him for keeping his word and his integrity. And, certainly, it’s not clear at all who would have won in a showdown between Tom and Ian.

See, to me, Tom trying to keep his word to Ian, even if it meant possibly reducing his chances of winning, is worthy of respect, because it was a word given early on in the game and keeping your word in the face of possible adversity is true integrity.

On the other hand, Ian’s boneheaded move of giving up the last challenge and making Tom promise to take Katy is, IMHO, not worthy of respect, or at least not as much respect. It wasn’t a move that kept Ian’s integrity intact, it was a move that was clearly motivated by his knowing that he hadn’t kept his integrity, he had iin fact been totally willing to go back on his word to Tom, and it was a “Please forgive me and be my friend again” gesture. I mean, yeah, it’s good to try to clean up your messes, but it just doesn’t deserve the same level of respect as keeping your integrity all along.

Tom never promised to take Ian to the final two. They even said the last episode that they planned to go to the final THREE and then duke it out from there.

So not only would Tom have been stupid to take Ian to the final two, it would have been beyond what he promised.

BUT, if it were Tom and Ian head to head, I’d bet on Tom 5-2. He could look each of them in the eye and say that his tribe made it to the jury, sacrificing only Willard, laregly because of his strength. Ian was solid as well, but Tom was the soul of the tribe.

TOM- Janu, Steph, Gregg, Jenn, Caryn
IAN- Coby, Katie
