Jerri’s gone! Jerri’s gone!

Thought I’d just say that 100 times 'cos i’m so happy.

Other great moments in this episode:

Jerri picking Colby as her challenge partner instead of wanting to draw names out of a hat, and Tina or Elisabeth saying, “Duh. Who wouldn’t?”

Colby throwing Jerri over the six-foot barrier so she landed flat on her back (ouch) and then grunting, “C’mon, let’s go.” Kind of equivalent to Colby dousing Jerri with a bucketful on an earlier episode. I actually feel sorry for her at these moments, she is such a doormat for him.

Colby sharing coral souvenirs with his campmates on his and Jerri’s return, and Jerri looking about ready to cry as she realizes what a lousy person she is by comparison.

Tina leveling with a Tribal Council target for the first time in Survivor history, and flatly telling Elisabeth, “Look, we have to vote off you or Rodger.”

Colby giving Tina a devilish grin in the tug-of-war.

Amber smiling and rocking her hips back and forth, back and forth, as she attempts to knock Nick off balance. :stuck_out_tongue: Yow!

tclouie… now you’re a newbie so I’m going to be nice here, but I feel I should point out that SPOILERS (when you give a movie, TV plot etc away) aren’t welcome in the title of a thread. Label it clearly as a spoiler on the outside and feel free to share.

Some of us don’t get to see the shows at the same time as you and you’ve just ruined the next instalment for me.

Though I, too, am happy she is gone, I would have preferred to find out for myself.

AHEM Since when is this a spoiler? I wrote this seven hours after seeing the episode, and I live on the West Coast of the United States. How much later than that can you get?

(My apologies if you live in Hawaii, or the Aleutian Islands, or on the International Date Line.)

New information can only be considered a spoiler for a limited amount of time. After that, you can talk about it like it’s common knowledge. Ain’t your fault if someone’s behind the times.

Or maybe you get mad when somebody tells you Darth Vader is Luke’s father. What, you didn’t know that? --OOPS!

AND ONE MORE THING…

Since when am I a “newbie”???

tclouie,
Australia sees the episodes one week later than we in the US do.
And you won’t quit being a newbie until you have at least, oh, say 6 months or 500 posts.

what happens when you pass Hawaii and over the International Date Line… you fall off the edge of the world?

and you’re a newbie because you’ve posted less than an tenth of what dpr has  f’n newbie…

:stuck_out_tongue: it takes effort to be this condesending

I think a basic consideration for other people DOES actually extend beyond the borders of the United States which - contrary to some people’s opinions - does NOT constitute the entire world.

And no, I am not living in the US. Does that mean I’m not extended the same courtesies as a US citizen? Due to a network problem here in Australia we are currently a week behind. Your celebration of Jerri’s departure could easily have been done inside one of the numerous other Survivor threads or in here clearly marked with SPOILER.
Sorry about the newbie comment, not sorry about the sentiment.

nooo… he’s so a newbie… call him one…

BTW, since I’m over here in Aus too… I know someone in the local filmmaking industry who went to uni with a few of the guys employed in the camera crew. Episode 2 finished filming a couple of months ago… now that’s greater than 7 hours… but I also know that you some of you american types can be a tad slow… especially you by the sounds of it…

thing is I don’t watch it, don’t really care and wouldn’t want to spoil it for anyone… but show me your email address and I’ll ruin it for you

It spoiled my viewing of the ed, too. My husband had duty* last night and I taped it so we could watch it together. I avoided watching the news last night and didn’t look at the People page of the paper this morning, so we could be surprised together. It would have been an easy enough thing for you to put SPOILER in the thread title. Nor is it too late, now. Just e-mail a mod and ask that the title be changed. Oh, and YAY! The bitch is gone!

Jess

  • My husband is in the navy – every 10 days he has to stay onboard his ship overnight. This is called ‘duty.’

There are also people who time-shift their viewing. They tape the show and watch it the next day. Maybe they have a night job or have to be out or have something else that needs to be done when the show is on.

A better title might be “Survivor 30/03/01 SPOILER”.

Well since it’s already spoiled, I’ll go ahead and say that I was disappointed when they decided to vote Elisabeth off. She’s the cutest one on the show, and a nice person too. I’m glad that at least two Okagors changed their votes to The Okawhore. Jerri was fun to hate, but I’d still rather have Elisabeth to look at. Someone in another thread said that he recognized Colby’s writing that said “Jerri”. If that’s true, then he’s playing a good game: Arguing that Elisabeth must be voted off because she’s so likeable and would be tough to go up against in the Final Two, then turning around and voting off Jerri. He can say that he stuck with the coalition and offer his previous argument as evidence, and still play his game.

Ogakor/OgaWhore – I need more coffee…

Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit

Another Aussie checking in. As soon as I saw the thread
title and realised it was a spoiler, I tried to cross my eyes and pretend that I hadn’t seen it. Didn’t work. :frowning:

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=62998 (A discussion started by ahem LittleTassie ahem about the “ozzies” on the SDMB)

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=57745 (A plea - from an Australian, incidentally - to NOT put spoiler information in the subject title)

I know, I know … it’s only a TV show and I’m being a bitch. But I’ve been looking forward to this episode ever since the show started and damn it’s annoying having it ruined.

This link answers both questions rather well. The show is aired a week later in Australia. You are a newbie since you neither saw the thread linked above, nor have you internalized the fact that the television schedule you are accustomed to is not, in fact, the same television schedule for the rest of the world.

You know I know Jerri gets on some people’s nerves but that was just crappy what Colby did to her in the challenge. Just dropping somebody on their back for 6 to 7 is a jerkwad in my opinion. I bet Colby is the type a guy that would beat women(no respect for people like that).

I liked him when the show first started but he has gotten on my nerves like he thinks his crap don’t stink. I hope he loses now. I liked Mike the best he was radical and funny. I think it would be cool if one of the good looking girls win or Roger.

Am I the only one that doesn’t like Colby?

Actually, I’d add to that that he still has “newbie” status since, once someone pointed out what he’d done, his first response was (essentially) “Tough luck”, rather than “Geez, I’m sorry I spoiled the show for you! I apologize and I won’t do it again. Mods! Can you change the thread title?”

It’s the attitude that makes distinguishes the newbie from the old hand.

Fenris

tclouie, you’re a newbie as long as you keep making dumb mistakes like this one.

  1. Some Americans time-shift with their VCRs and don’t watch their shows until as much as several days after they air.

  2. Not every viewer of “Survivor II” is an American (Gasp! They have television in other countries!).

  3. Opal may or may not watch “Survivor II.”

Wildest Bill, I still like Colby. His karma is balanced; like Bugs Bunny, he does not dish out until he’s already been served. No, I don’t think he would beat women, and in the challenge you refer to I think he just lost his grip on Jerri.

Yep, you spoiled it for me, too. I taped it to watch tonight. THANKS A LOT!

Of course, I’ll still watch it…

That is entirely your choice. Do you really expect the whole world to slow down to accommodate your viewing habits? I just rented “The Crying Game,” please don’t spoil the ending…

And another thing, if it’s really that important to you, why are you prowling around the Internet before watching your tape? Like, the Internet is a really safe place to hide from the news of the world, yah right.

By this time, the “big news” about Episode 9 has been on dozens of news broadcasts all over the world. I don’t believe for one minute that even people as far away as Australia could avoid hearing about it for a whole week. You would have to, like, completely withdraw from all media to be surprised. But then again, people who browse Internet message boards probably couldn’t be expected to do that. Ridiculous.

By the way, who has the authority to decide how many months and/or posts you need before graduating from newbie-dom? Did somebody take a poll? Or (more likely) are you just making it up?

The poster who said you’re a newbie if you haven’t acquainted yourself with TV viewing schedules in other countries…(SNORT!) Now, that is really making it up as you go along!

Yup. We aren’t as self-righteous. Eat my newbie.

Nothing wrong with my attitude. I just get pissed when I make a fan-post about a show I enjoy and immediately get a bunch of condescending crap. If you don’t want a fight, then don’t come out of the corner swinging.

Hey Fenris…wanna talk about Heinlein again? I lost my “4-H” poem, but maybe you can get a copy from TubaDiva…

tclouie, allow me to add my name to the list of people who think you ought to ask the mods to change the title of the thread. Even though people who have not yet seen the episode could find out what happened from other sources, that’s no excuse for a member of this community to be the person to ruin the surprise. Standard practice around here–whether you like it or not–is to post a spoilers warning if the thread contains spoilers. Considering that this little courtesy could be accomplished with absolutely no harm done to you or the thread, it’s the proper thing to do.

But people, people, people . . . isn’t anybody going to acknowledge my superior Survivor prognistication abilities?

** I noticed that you took the time to insert the [sic] to point out a minor typo, but deleted the smiley, thus changing the tone of the quoted bit from a friendy, teasing comment. Bad form.

**

It’s not condescending to suggest that a simple spoiler warning and not putting the spoiler in the thread title is basic politeness.

No-one is suggesting that it’s wrong to make a fan-post you enjoy, everyone to date has suggested it would have been courteous to choose a different thread title and include the word spoiler.

At this point, I’m not sure this discussion is entirely appropriate for IMHO. If you’d like to continue this in The Pit, feel free

Fenris

In fact, I watched the show last night. I never said I time-shifted my viewing; rather, I sad that some people do. So there goes your “Oh yeah? Why are you here then?” jab.

The point is that there are people whose viewing habits are not the same as yours. This may be because of their life-schedule, or because of where they live in the world, or any number of other reasons. It’s rude to assume that everyone in the world has seen the show just because you have. But that could have been a simple mistake. What is pissing people off (if I may speak for the others) is that having made a mistake you’re being a bit defensive about it.
