Survivor: Guess who's gone? :)

minty green:

Yes, minty green, you’re very smart. I’m patting you on your virtual head. Happy now?

Tell ya what, fiver, if you make sure there’s beer instead of milk in that bottle, I might even tell you who I think is going to get the axe next week.

Sorry, buddy. All my beer are belong to me.

Oh boy, we’ve got another fictionizer here.

Speaking from the former to the latter, have a nice day. :wally

They are right. There was a specific request on this board not to post Survivor II spoilers in the title of the thread.

If you like Survivor and didn’t see this request, then you are definately a newbie. Or a moron. Take your pick.

I suggest you claim a newbie position, apologize for the honest mistake, and move on. There is very little we on this board dislike more than when someone totally denies making a mistake.

So, just apologize…and walk away.

One more posting to say, TCLOUIE, you made a mistake and inadvertantly spoiled the episode for others. The thing to do is acknowledge that, apologize and move on. It’s not making a mistake that makes a person look like an ass; it’s pretending you didn’t when you obviously did. And if the choice is between being labelled a “newbie” and being labelled a jerk, a wise person would pick the former.

JODI, who no longer can be called a newbie.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that, after your double post.
Does it occur to anyone besides me that tclouie has great potential to be the next LOOSE CANNON?[sub]TM Alphagene[/sub]

If this does get retitled, it should probably be changed to: “What NOT to do when you’re a newbie.”

As a newbie who made his first “forgot to use the search engine” error a week or so ago, I can sympathize tclouie. However, when I was shown the error of my ways, and shown that I wasn’t being chastized as harshly as I thought, I promptly apologized.

People on this board don’t hold grudges. After a proper apology, you’ll be welcomed into any conversation as much as any other doper. There are nice people here, a lot of them. Just give them the same courtesy they’d give you, and everyone will enjoy themselves.

And, one last thing: I’m glad the bitch is gone.

Of all the arrogant atttitudes…

Mate (and I’m starting to use the term loosely now) the world does NOT revolve around the United States. I’d suggest you don’t start believing your own mass media. Our news broadcasts have better things to do than report on the latest occurence of a TV show (even common sense says that the airing network won’t give it away and the competition won’t draw attention to it). It actually IS quite simple to go a week without finding out who got kicked off BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE HAS THE COURTESY TO PUT SPOILER ON THEIR TITLES.

I suggest you re-read what I posted. I thought I was being polite and concise. I was certainly upset and disappointed but communicated a suggestion succintly and without emotion. I most definitely did not come out swinging. No, it was YOUR attitude that stirred this pot. I suggest you rethink your approach and try to be a bit more objective.

Yes, I made a mistake when I glanced at your post count rather than your registration date. I admit it, I apologise for it, I move on with life.

See how easy that is?

Well tclouie, welcome to the boards NEWBIE. And yes I do consider you a newbie as will many others on the board. I consider myself a newbie also and will continue to for quite some time yet. However I don’t see that it is the length of time on the boards or the number of posts that so emphatically highlights you as a NEWBIE, more likely it is your disregard for basic respect of your fellow posters and your irresponsible attitude.

At some time - all newbies will make mistakes, it is impossible to know all the intricacies of board etiquette as soon as you jump on, however I have always found that people here are very patient at helping out when you inadvertantly “stuff up”.

In this case I feel DPR was very polite in his reply to your thread. He gave you a reason for why “SPOILER” is placed in the title as well as responding to your actual title thread. However your increasingly vitriolic, and arrogant replies to DPR’s and others remarks indicate a rather insular and uninformed personality that perhaps does not fit in with our goal of “fighting ignorance”. It is people with attitudes like yours that is making this fight take longer than expected.

DPR, you are my hero!

tclouie, the more you post to this thread, the more of an idiot you seem. Stop making up excuses and blaming others for your lack of forsight. Your OP was easily forgiveable - your subsequent responses less so.

For an example of how you should have handled your little flub, tclouie, see this thread:

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=65551

The OP posted, realized there was a spoiler in the title, apologized, asked a mod to change it, and everyone accepted it and began talking about the thread topic instead of jumping all over her (actually, I have no idea what gender headshok is - I’m going with female just to be different. My apologies if that offends you, head). Why? Not because she’s not a newbie, but because she acted with class and showed respect to the other posters.

Learn, young newbie Padawan. Learn, go forth, and be assholish no more.

Well I feel like I’m hijacking when I’m really just answering the OP…anyways…

Did you notice this best moment to date?

In the immunity challenge Jerri asks if she has to put the rope around her wrist…

Colby yells: “Put it around your neck!”

Ahem, that he was me, and I’m a she. Anyway, if you look at the Survivor site, only Jerri and Amber voted for Elisabeth. The rest of the original Ogakor tribe voted for Jerri also, not just Colby.

Does anyone else besides me think it was a dumb strategical move to vote Jerri off? I would keep her to make “me” look good. Let’s say it comes down to Keith and Rodger. My take is that everybody just loves “Kentucky Joe.” I would not want to be pitted against him if I were Keith. I would want to be pitted against Jerri or Amber. Jerri especially would make any other opponent sparkle by comparison.

My thoughts.

Sir

I’m South African and the show isn’t even ON AIR here yet…But I am watching it via some clandestine methods…Anyway the point is, I think putting SPOILER clearly in the topic is a very good idea for those people who CHOOSE NOT to know.

That said, YAY joygasm that bitch is gone!!! you can’t know how happy I am she didnt win that million dollars.

Now it can go to someone DESERVING of it.!!!

In Australia we get this program a few weeks later than you. By including SPOILER information in the title of your thread, you have in fact SPOILED things for me. The point is not to know what happens until it happens.

Can you understand how angry I am with you?

You have been round long enough to know that most people warn with “SPOILER” clues in the thread.

You are a jerk. No, I didn’t say that right.

YOU ARE A JERK!!

Don’t bother replying - I haven’t read beyond the first lines of your OP, and I won’t read this thread, or any others with your jerk name on them.

Jerk!

Hey, Jerkoff, I can tell you that here in Australia, we ARE sheltered from the answer until the show screens, UNLESS WE GO LOOKING FOR THE SPOILERS. If the newspapers published the information about Survivor before it screened in Australia, they would drown in a deluge of complaints from irate viewers. The televised news doesn’t give it away - the screening channel is hardly going to give up the goods, and the other channels don’t give the free publicity to the screening channel. Therefore, despite your disbelief, we don’t know what happens until it happens, unless we go looking for that information, or some idiot blurts it out in a forum where we don’t expect to see spoilers.

Now, you didn’t know to hide that information in your subject line, so I guess you can’t be blamed for that, but your reaction to being ASKED not to make the same mistake twice was wrong. Instead of a humble “Oops, sorry”, you set out to prove that every person in Australia was wrong, along with all the people in the US who tape the show and watch it later, and in fact, everyone everywhere who hasn’t seen the episode. Do you understand the magnitude? You’re acusing millions of people of being wrong, while you’re the only one who is right. Next time you make a mistake, be an adult and say sorry. Don’t defend yourself by presuming to know how the media works in Australia - I wasn’t angry until I saw that ridiculous statement you made.

Besides - doesn’t this thread belong in MPSIMS?

Why would “…news broadcasts all over the world.” be even slightly interested in this subject ?

You have an extraordinary mindset. Ever thought of getting a passport ? No, didn’t think so.

I think it was a great time for Keith and Tina to vote Jerri off. Because had Ogachor continued picking off the rest of the Kucha tribe, that would have ultimately left Jerri&Amber, Tina&Keith and Colby as the swing voter. Now if you’re Colby thinking of the Final 2, would you rather have Tina sitting next to you or Jerri?

Tina’s days were numbered because she was too nice. Keith’s days were numbered because Jerri’s attraction for Colby.

Smart move for Tina and Keith. Puts a whole new spin on things. Not so sure if it was in Colby’s best interest to vote off Jerri. Now he has lost his Amber/Jerri protection. And if he does manage to make it to the final 2, he’s now lost Jerri AND Amber’s vote. A woman scorned…
