Survivor: Guess who's gone? :)

And you are in blatant violation of the Forum rules.

Isn’t it interesting how some people (including the above poster, and Mahaloth, and wyldelf, and Kayeby, and Smeghead) place so much importance on an unofficial convention about spoilers, and yet seem to place zero importance on a very explicit rule prohibiting personal attacks in this forum. Apparently one of the privileges of being an “old hand” is being able to pick and choose which rules you’re going to follow.

What self-serving hypocrisy.

And some are accusing me of vitriol and arrogance. I suggest these people read their own posts, aloud. Double hypocrisy.

It’s so ironic that dpr, who started this whole mess, has actually turned out to be more of a gentleman than the rest of you. Since he showed the manliness and good grace to apologize for his epithet, I in turn also apologize to dpr for ruining his episode-viewing. However, I wish to clarify one thing: it wasn’t the incorrect application of the word “newbie” that set me off. It was being labelled with a name that was clearly meant to be disparaging.

The rest of you:
Your continued scolding is truly pathetic. It seems to be very, very important to you that I apologize to you. This is not “fighting ignorance,” this is an attempt to enforce the pecking order. Well, I refuse to kiss the asses of people who insult me. Apologize to me first.

You know…if someone had just said, “This show comes on a week later where I am, please label spoilers in the title,” I probably would have just said, “Oops, sorry, I’ll catch it next time.”

But no…someone had to call me a name in the very first post.

And anybody who has read my other posts can tell that I’m a very nice and open-minded guy, EXCEPT WHEN I GET INSULTED.

And now, instead of a nice little fan thread, we have a nice little flame war going on. Which will not end as long as I keep getting hostile, arrogant, insulting, condescending replies.

Happy now?

Yesterday, I said:

Step 1: Don’t apologize if you make a mistake. Fight more. CHECK!

Step 2: Talk about the pecking order, and how you aren’t going to subscribe to that crazy notion. CHECK! [sub][sub]Although the German judge may deduct a point or two for not using the word “clique”[/sub][/sub]

Step 3: But heads with a mod over their responose to your actions in Steps 1 & 2. Go down in a blaze of glory, never to return. Not yet, but I’m giving 4:1 odds that this will happen by monday evening.

For the record, I didn’t say that. tclouie did.

Sorry about that Johnny L.A. - appallingly bad coding in that post. A lesson to us all: Preview! You’d think I’d have learnt to stop making that mistake by now, but I always seem to forget!

You most definately didn’t make those comments, and my response was addressed to tclouie.

To Cazz, Redboss, etc.-This is NOT the place for personal attacks, namecalling and the like, and you know it. As of right now, any discussion on this thread will be about the show itself, or I’m locking it off.

As far as spoiler alerts go, IMHO for television shows it would be damn near impossible to calculate when and if a show airs overseas, so anything over eight hours is fair game as far as I’m concerned. If you don’t want to be surprised plotline-wise, try to pay attention to thread titles, though this title gave far too much away, and I’ll be changing it.

Keep it civil in my forum, please.

Lock it down, Czarcasm.

Let me try to wrap my brain around this one…

You, being a fan of the TV show “Survivor,” AND not having seen the latest episode yet, AND not wanting to know the outcome of said episode until you view it, clumsily lurch into a message board thread entitled:

SURVIVOR: GUESS WHO’S GONE?

Suddenly you’re incensed because information in said thread, again, entitled:

SURVIVOR: GUESS WHO’S GONE?

reveals the ending to the aforementioned episode that you had not viewed yet. Naturally you’re incensed because who on earth would ever guess that a thread entitled:

SURVIVOR: GUESS WHO’S GONE?

would reveal the ending to an episode of “Survivor”? Not you apparently since you obviously feel that the ruination of last week’s episode is not due to your temporary (I’m sure) lack of common sense but rather the carelessness of the original poster in not taking care to carefully scribble the word SPOILER on the title of his thread:

SURVIVOR: GUESS WHO’S GONE?

May I suggest in the future that if you don’t want unviewed “Survivor” episodes ruined for you, you should take care to avoid entertainment news programs, newspaper/magazine articles with the word “SURVIVOR” in the headline and message board threads entitled:

SURVIVOR: GUESS WHO’S GONE?

Also take care not to read threads such as:

WHO GOT KICKED OFF SURVIVOR THIS WEEK
I KNOW WHO THEY BOOTED OFF SURVIVOR
SURVIVOR: READ THIS THREAD IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHO GOT BOOTED
SURVIVOR! SURVIVOR! SURVIVOR! JERRI! JERRI! JERRI!

Torgo Prepare to say “oops” :

If you’d have read the whole thread carefully, you’d have noticed that the mod stepped in and changed the name of the thread. (see the post 2 posts before yours by Czarcasm. The original title was “Jerri’s gone”. (note, I have never watched a single episode of any of the survivor and like shows and couldn’t care less about the outcome).

Sorry Aussie’s, but the fact is that the world does revolve around the U.S. It’s not that we as Americans really deserve it for any good reason, but it’s the hand that fate’s dealt us. The U.S. is simply the richest most powerful country around and there isn’t much reason to consider what is outside our borders. There will surely be a time that this will change, but that time is not now. Believe me, if Australia were in the U.S.'s shoes you’d be acting the same way.

I predict this thread will be voted closed today.

This is absolute, unadulterated bullshit from first word to last. It also has nothing whatsoever to do with the question, which is whether TCLOUIE could reasonably expect that everyone hanging out on the message board would have already seen the episode in question just because it had already aired in the U.S. (Here’s a hint: The answer is “no.”)

And I have seen little indication that if an Australian show was aired later in the U.S., our Aussie Dopers would cheerfully wreck it for those of us waiting to see it, and then immaturely refuse to even acknowledge that they had made a mistake. Kindly try to remember: We fight ignorance around here, we don’t spread it.

 Studoggie, that was tongue-in-cheek, right? Please tell me it was. Please?

I don’t read anything carefully. And I’ll be dead in the cold, cold ground before I say “oops” or recognize Texans as sentient beings.

Jodi, I like people like you. You always take the bait.

Why Studoggie…were you TROLLING for responses?

I’m with Mr.C - lock it down, Czar…

I just wanted to spicen things up a little.

But seriously, I don’t think this was such a big slip up. There was no reason to suspect that Survivor was being broadcast elsewhere. I wouldn’t figure that many Australians would care the slightest to see 16 americans stuck out in the middle of nowhere. (Although I really don’t see why so many Americans care either)

Also, I think you take a risk upon yourself when you go onto message boards that are made up primarily with Americans. Heck, even CNN.com said on it’s front page who was booted off. This is no big secret here and most people aren’t aware that the show is broadcast elsewhere (CBS never states this)

nahhhh, it’s totally unreasonable to suspect that Australians would be in the least interested in a TV show that was set in Australia.

Torgo I have no idea what you were attempting to communicate in your last post. It just seemed to me that since your lengthy rant against another poster was based on totally false assumption, that you’d want to soften your tone a bit. Seems I was mistaken.

wring, what does that have to do with anything? There are plenty of foriegn TV shows shot in the US that I will probably never see or care to see. Survivor is an american show produced by an Amercian company. I would have no idea who they syndicate their shows to.

I don’t even watch the show, but I knew it was set in the Outback, much was made of the fact that it was in Australia. It isn’t such a stretch to me to believe that they’d market it there. But. the Mod has asked (on page one) to keep on topic of the actual show, so I’ll leave y’all to discuss it.

Ehhh, well… we will just agree to disagree then. It’s a pointless issue anyway.

Personally, I can’t believe I’m wasting so much time on this board(no offense to it). Think I’ll go out and have beer. One last post though before I leave for a week or 2.

Wasn’t it a bad idea to vote Jerri off? I mean aren’t they now risking Amber’s defection. Sure she doesn’t have anything to gain by switching sides now, but after they vote off Nick or elizabeth next week it might be in Amber best interest to switch sides and vote against Colby (or Kieth) who would lose any tiebreaks. This would place her in a better situation (at least marginally) since she surely suspects that the other three from her original tribe have joined without her. Colby(probably) will have to convince her that he is still on her side somehow.
