Survivor Heroes and Villains starts tonight (2/11)

Those who have been preoccupied with the weather or other real-life adventures may have forgotten – but tonight’s the night.

I’m psyched – can’t wait to see what everyone makes of Russell.

I am so excited for this!! I’m rooting for Colby and Tom, so I guess the Hero team initially. But I do like Russell (well, his gameplay, not really him) and it will be interesting to see how they react to him since they didn’t see his season first. Plus he wasn’t ingrained in the Survivor culture like the rest of them. Yippee!!!

Sweet! Thanks for the reminder.

The online experience (fantasy, etc) was pretty crappy last season so I hope they’ve made some improvements.

If they turn this into the all Russell all the time show I will quit watching.

I want a cage match between Russell and Coach. Who would make whose head explode?

I may have a spontaneous orgasm when it starts tonight.

I would not be surprised if, at some point, there is an actual physical altercation on this season.

I’m not really rooting for anyone just yet. I do hope that there is good backstabbing, alliance making and in-fighting. I wonder who’ll get the boot first though.

Don’t they usually try and gang up on previous winners? Or perhaps known assholes?

I’m thinking Boston Rob is gonna get the boot, even though he’s personable and likable, i just get the feeling he’s gonna be removed so he can be with Amber and their new kid.

Should we take bets on who goes out first?

I hope they vote Russel’s ass out in the first TC. Some people you love to hate, but him I just hate.

Otherwise, I’m psyched. I think this will be one of the best seasons for the show. JT would be my pick.

It’s hard to say how this is going to go. Are we certain that the “Villians” and the “Heroes” are going to be the tribes as well? Or are they going to be mixed up?

One thing I know for certain - Russell isn’t going to get away with the stuff he pulled last season. He’s the one person that is a complete wildcard. He will be watched. He isn’t going to get away with rooting around for hidden idols right in front of everyone, especially if he’s on a tribe with a bunch of other sneaky shits like Boston Rob.

I suspect we’ll see a large woman’s alliance because there are a large number of them who really don’t offer anything at all in challenges or around the camp (Sugar, Sandra, Cerie, Courtney). I think we’ll also see an All-America team of good guys with Amanda, James, Tom, JT, and Colby who will keep some others at arms length like Stephanie, Rupert, and Cerie due to their reputations as behind the scenes schemers.

If they do keep the Villians as a tribe, that could really be interesting.

It’s officially called “Survivor: Heroes vs Villians”, which certainly makes me think they’re separating the tribes that way.

ETA: The preview on the cbs website is pretty funny. They’ve got a shot of Coach saying “I’m unshakeable unbreakable invincible like a sword,” followed by a shot of Cerie laughing.

I’ve watched most Survivor seasons, but missed the last two. Can someone give me a very quick description of Coach and Russel and why they were interesting players? I gather they were generally unliked, hence “Villians.”

Coach was nuts. He thought he was running his tribe, but after a few episodes it was obvious he was just being humored by them. He’d tell these crazy stories, like how the Peruvian army dropped him by helicopter in some remote area of the Amazon, where he canoed for a while until he was captured by cannibals, who tied him up and were going to eat him until he managed to escape his bonds and get out the back of the tent. Or he’d practice some martial art, and when another player asked about it, said it was taught to him alone by a monk in Thailand or something, and don’t bother googling it because no one else knows it exists. He described himself as the “Dragonslayer” to his visit-from-home guest (the assistant coach from the college women’s soccer team), and was voted out soon after (I think the same episode). It also turned out that he had lied to his employer as to why he was taking 2 months off work - he led them to believe it was for cancer treatment, apparently not realizing that in a University with thousands of students, some one might notice him showing up on TV a few months later. He got fired for that.

Coach was a delusional nutjob who was constantly hamming it up for the camera about how he’s got everyone right where he wants them. When in reality, the real power alliance of the game let him hang around until it was most convenient to send him packing.

He also bragged about beating up a cannibal tribe in South America while tied to a tree.

Search for “coach survivor” for all the gory details.

I believe you will be dissapointed. Russell is one of the best strategist to play the game. And since none of these all stars have ever seen him before, and his type of game, they will get caught blindsided.

I predict that Russell will be on for a while if not all the way.

See above for descriptions of Coach. Russell is a villain, but was very successful at it, he was F2 last season, and misread the social aspect of the game enough that people on the jury felt like they got played too much by him to give him the million $. During his season he found 3 hidden immunity idols without any clues.

…however, he was very lucky in that they weren’t hidden in a way that needed clues–no Exile Island, nothing buried or underwater or needing more than one clue to be found. One was stuck in a giant hole in the largest tree right in the center of camp, the other was stuck under the boards of a footbridge, and for the last one people on a reward challenge were given a video of it being hidden at the base of a little wall in the jungle!

He did take initiative in finding them, but that was his whole game. He didn’t bother to hide his contempt for the others and refused point-blank to ever help around camp, and that’s why, in the end, they gave the money to Natalie, who got to know people and was working quietly until the last minute. His conduct after his loss was so egregious that eventually Natalie called him on it.

Coach is a buffoon but he seems to know it on some level, but he won’t break character on the air. His asshole sidekick is the tall gawky blond, Tyson.

I wanna see the curmudgeon Randy go far. I’d like to see him get in the faces of people he doesn’t like and start something out of nothing. For this reason I think he may be an early exit.

I think you’re right about this. He really brings nothing at all to the table, plus he’s nasty. I don’t see any reason why they’d keep him around. Russell will be in the same boat. None of the other contestants had seen Russell’s season so they’ll be wary of an unknown quantity who got put on the “Villian” squad. He tries hard in challenges, but I saw him on a preview show with Richard Hatch, and it looks like he’s about 5’5". I never noticed how small he is in the last season.

I just created a Fantasy Tribe if anyone wants to join: Survivor Safari, described as “A group of incredibly intelligent, witty and all-around awesome individuals.”

I don’t know about him not bringing anything to the table. He brought his A game to the competitions. He helped his team win through sheer determination. I liked his game and I like his grating personality. He can really stir shit up out of nothing.

I think his team might just lose a challenge on purpose just to get rid of him. And that kinda stuff makes Survivor worth watching. I hope he didn’t mellow out.
