Survivor II - What did they have against Debb?

Sorry it took so long to get this reply, but I wanted to review my tapes to make sure of what I thought I heard (others have admited to taping it, so I’m not the only geek here).

I agreed with David B. that Mike didn’t thank God for making him the leader, but instead said he didn’t want it to be that way. But I thought I heard something on the last episode that went against this. After reviewing my tapes, here is what we have.

In episode #2 (2/1/01)… about 20 minutes in we have the prayer and Mike saying: “I know that this could easily get turned around in some way to make me be the leader of the tribe.” Then Kimmie says: “Mike thanks God for making him the leader of the tribe… I don’t know when he was anointed, but apparently my back was turned.”

Then in the opening seconds of episode #3…(2/8/01) we have a recap of the last show and we hear Mike say: “Dear God, Thanks for making me the leader of the troupe.” Kimmie replies: “Mike thanks God for making him the leader of the tribe… I don’t know when he was anointed, but apparently my back was turned.”

So, obviously there has been some creative editing here… Kimmie’s quote is the same, but Mike’s is quite different. The second one they do not show Mike directly, so that would be the easier to manipulate. Notice the difference between one where he uses TRIBE and the other when he uses TROUPE (was he the leader of a theatre troupe back home?).

Anyway… any of you others who have been taping, feel free to verify this, and let us know what you think.

You’re not suggesting that the fine folks at Survivor might edit something in a way that it didn’t actually happen?!

Jerri didn’t look too happy that one of the members in her alliance defected and voted against Mitchell. I don’t know which is better…Jerri worrying about her own position in the tribe or her worrying about keeping her hold on Amber and Colby.

-Brenda (still counting the days until Jerri gets booted)

WTF with Mitchel? He just rolled over and died! I wonder what went on to make him quit like that? Maybe I haven’t been paying enough attention, but somehow the guy got totally demoralized.

Well according to the radio this morning, Mitchell is actually very tall and thus requires a lot of food to keep healthy. They haven’t eaten anything but rice in that tribe, and it makes sense that he’d be the first to really feel the effects. He looked sickly to me. (My g/f kept calling him “bag of bones”) I’m surprised that Jerri and Amber are so dumb that they’d still want to get rid of Keith out of spite, even though Mitchell said he wanted to go. Mitchell was quickly becoming useless due to poor nutrition.

Kucha rules! I really can’t stand Kimmi anymore and I’m glad that (it looks like) Alicia is going to bitch her out for it next week. I mean really. We’re the top of the food chain, we kill other animals and eat them. It’s nature’s way and stuff. Get over it.

I’m still in disbelief that I’m so addicted.

Well, at least we’ve avoided Temptation Island!

It’s just as well that Ogakor booted Mitchell because he was a total liability. At some point, the rest of the tribe must wake up and realize how destructive and evil Jerri is and vote her off.

Despite his Christianity, Mike is one hell of a man. Strong, decisive, strategic, and he can hunt and kill a pig with just a knife. In addition, he is drop dead gorgeous! Without Mike, Kucha would be just as bad off as Ogakor, since nobody else seems to have the moxie to hunt food for themselves. I have to wonder what the hell Kimmi thought she was in for when she signed up for the show. Tofu in the outback?? Puh-leeze!

I loathed Kimmi on the first episode, and then I gained some admiration for her during the reward challenge in the second when she refused to eat the cow brains. But, by the end of the challenge, I lost the admiration for her.

Hey Kimmi: You’re not a vegetarian! She eats worms, and seafood.

Goboy, I think she went there figuring she’d eat fish and rice.

Kimmi’s stand on vegetarianism really demonstrates how far removed from the food chain our society is. It’s fine to follow whatever food practices you see fit when food is plentiful, but in survival situation, I just don’t think you can afford to be that picky. I just don’t understand what she thought she would eat out there? She is not going to get tofu out there.

As for Jerri, I think if she makes it to the tribal merger, she’s out. I was rather surprised to hear Mitchell say that he wanted to go. I was even more surprised to see it was still a tie after his speech. What is the point in keeping him there when he doesn’t want to stay?

I also can’t believe I forgot to make my picks for the fantasy league. Urgh.

Did anybody else think there was something wrong with that pig Mike killed on last night’s show? The little sucker looked drugged or something. I mean really, how many feral pigs have you ever seen that would let you walk right up and repeatedly stab them with a knife?

From Time.com:

So what is Kimmi living on, anyway? Just rice? She will eat the fish, but won’t eat chicken? What’s the difference? If it came right down to it, would she let herself starve, rather than eat chicken or eggs?

{Not a dig at vegetarians or vegans, not trying to start anything, but an honest question…how can you make a moral/ethical judgement not to eat chicken, but still eat fish? An animal is still dying, right?}

I think the food issue is why Kucha is winning. Their bellies are full of eggs and chicken and pork…all protein. The Ogakor tribe is so damn hungry and malnourished they can’t even think.
Plus, that bitch Jerri. She is going to make that tribe self-destruct. She’s digging her own grave. I would like to see everyone turn on her next.

Yes, next week looks great. Alicia really lets Kimmi have it.

My friends and I had a “Super Bowl/Survivor II” party, and sixteen of us bought into a pool ($10 each) and were randomly assigned one of the castaways. I drew Colby, and the way things have been shaping up, I like my chances.

Last night each tribe seemed concerned about preserving their members so they’d be in a better position for the merge. The implication being, I suppose, that after the merge each tribe’s former members would comprise a voting bloc, so the more populous tribe before the merge could pick off all the opposing tribe’s members before “eating their own.”

Is that how it went last time? I didn’t see the first Survivor until the final episode. Had the final four originally been in the same tribe?

Im pretty sure the show dropped that pig there for them. I know in Survivor one they did that with the snakes.

Those people are getting skinny.

It was EXTREMELY smart for Jerri and Amber to keep their vote against Keith, lola. Because when they go into the merger, they can still say that they’re loyal people to their tribe - I see Jerri lasting to the final 6 this way. It wasn’t a matter of wanting to keep him there - they knew that he would lose the tie-breaker - it was a matter of principle and a show of determination.

I think we’ve seen the last of the Ogakor alliance. I sure wouldn’t be suprised to see Keith and Tina keep their votes together, but for the most part, I see an all for one, one for all mentality taking over. They’re going to work on their teamwork and overall strength to try to win some immunities.

goboy, not to take off on a tagent or be rude, but do you typically have an immediate aversion to anyone who is Christian? And do you make the assumption that he’s Christian solely because he mentions “God”?

As for Kucha, I was glad to see Michael gain some respect. I think after winning so many times, the line between friendships and playing the game is being blurred really well - always a good thing. They also will be voting off the weakest link, either Rodger or Kimmi. Looks like Alicia will be bitching her out next week - can’t wait! I don’t think the rest of the tribe will mind.

I was most impressed by Michael’s butchering job. He had that pig strung up and shaved down. I have a feeling he knows exactly what everything can be used for. They said it was a small pig - how long do you think it will last?

But I sure am glad to say goodbye to Mitchell. I’ve been gunning for him since day 1. He’s just useless.

I hope this will be the last post in the “A vegetarian on Survivor?” hijack.

Kimmi is not a vegetarian. We’ve had this discussion many, many times before (about pescatarians, etc.). She might call herself one, but she’s not.

I thought about trying out for S2 as a whim, but when I read on the application something about being a vegetarian/eating meat (or fish, or chicken), I realised that my chances were nil. I wouldn’t have eaten the brains, nor the worm. I would’ve, however, been as horrified as Kimmi was when they executed the rooster and hunted the pig.

Personally, I would let myself starve. But, I’m not Kimmi.

Not true. The Ogakor tribe is also eating fish. Remember, they won the fishing gear in the water bag challenge.

**
Well, like I said, I’m not trying to start anything, but she’s the one calling herself a vegetarian. In my opinion, it’s not fair for her to give the others any crap for eating meat, or be mad that he killed the pig. This is about survival. Like I said before, I think the Kuchas are doing better because they aren’t hungry and tired.
Did she any of the eggs? Or was she just not eating the chicken and pork?

Oh yeah. I forgot they won the fishing gear. Maybe they weren’t catching enough fish anyway though. They never really revealed how often they actually catch fish. I saw Tina caught one but that was all they showed from last night’s show.

As far as the pig. It looked like a young pig (not that I have any idea what an older pig would look like). I think it might have been put there too, but you never know, it might have gone down to the water to drink or something. The camera crew seems to find them all the time (or they keep showing the same pig). It did try to defend itself, you see a good angle of the pig snorting at Mike when he finally cornered it, and then they change the angle so you can’t see him stab the thing. He might have had to stab it quite a few times before it died. I think Mike is the best guy on the show, a real man’s man. I don’t think any of the other tribe members would/could have killed it.

Not too sure I believe a “market consultant who has knowledge of these things” about shooting a pig in the head three times not stopping it. If it was the Crocodile Hunter guy, I’d believe it. I’d need to see that to believe it.

Responding to the hijack…
Do I hate the entire body of Christian believers? No, but I do loathe and detest the subspecies of Fundamentalist Christian that demands that everyone around also participate in their beliefs. You know, the ones who demand that we make schoolchildren pray to Jesus, the ones who don’t want science taught because it contradicts their religion, the ones who want to ban movies and books that offend them so that nobody can look at the movies and books either.

Mike can pray to Jesus all he likes, but if I were in Kucha, I would respectfully opt out of any corporate prayer of the kind shown in episode 2 (Lord Jesus, thank You for making me leader of the tribe). The same goes for all forms of superstition.

Anyhoo, that’s it unless you wish to open a new thread to discuss this.

Oooh! I found some dirt! Actually, Survivor sent it to me… I’m on the mailing list…

But here it is:

Someone hasn’t been cleaning herself? Maybe Kimmi? Or Elizabeth? Alicia?

Mmmm… dirty outback girls…
