Ive seen wild pigs & my sister has seen wild pigs, but I can’t prove that it’s not a wild pig. Could only find one wild pig photo on the net at this time:
Keep in mind these are feral pigs, not wild. There’s a difference. Feral, of course, being escaped domesticated pigs, or descedents thereof. I’d expect to find a wide range of sizes and behaviors out there in the wild.
If the pig was drugged or planted, I wouldn’t have a problem with it as long as the opposing tribe were given a similar opportunity. Because, of course, being well fed gives you a distinct advantage in both physical and mental challenges.
handy, the picture you linked appears to be a stuffed toy pig, not a real one.
I grew up on a farm where we raised hogs. When hogs go feral, they revert to the characteristics and appearance of their wild forbears. One of the first things that happenss, within a few generations, is that their hair starts to grow much more thickly than on domestic pigs.
(Curious phenomenon, by the way. I’m not sure how it could be explained from a Darwinian/genetic perspective. Perhaps the long hair is better at holding cooling water or mud against their skin, since wild pigs may not always have the ready access to mud available to their domestic cousins.)
My recollection is that the pig on Survivor had thick hair, just as one would expect of a feral pig.
Just to clear up a common misconception; the contestants were not completely limited to rice and whatever they could forage. Their initial supply of food was mostly rice but also contained several cans of other food items such as salmon and fruit. I have read however that all of the canned food was consumed within the first week, leaving them with the aforementioned rice and forage diet.
I was raised around pigs, and that looked like your average, fairly young pig. It didn’t look drugged, and at one point it moved pretty fast. Remember, the scenes are edited, so what looked like a pretty short chase could actually have taken quite a long time before they cornered it.
They’re lucky it was a small pig, though. You don’t want to mess with a larger one. They are deceptively mean and powerful.
I knew after they spent all the time filming her watching in horror as the others killed and ate the chicken that it was all over for her. I am now convinced that the producers edit the footage with the outcome in mind. (you think?) Add to that all the cracks about how skanky she was by refusing to bath in “that gross water” and I knew her fate was sealed.
What I mean to say is if someone else would have been voted off then more footage would have been shown of that particular person. I think a little more sublety is in order.
I know it is mean-spirited but I am glad that kucha lost the immunity challenge. A runaway victory wouldn’t be near as much fun to watch. The only drawback to Kucha losing immunity is that Jerri is assured of yet another week.
Ok now who or at least which tribe gets attacked (eaten?) by the alligator. As much as I want to say I hope it’s Jerri, I couldn’t live with myself if that is what happened.
Definitely not Jerri. She was shown reading the letter telling the Ogakor tribe there had been an accident. Being as Ogakor were being told this way, it must have been someone from Kucha. Based on who was shown reacting to the incident, my guess is Michael. And as I mentioned in another thread, my guess is his injury is minor and he doesn’t miss any episodes.
Can’t watch the show for more than 5 minutes. Didn’t see the scene in question, but I can tell you a bit about feral pigs. http://www.agric.wa.gov.au/agency/Pubns/infonote/infonotes/feral_pig_biology.html#ID
They come in a varity of colours and sizes, but the one I saw in show promos looked the part for a feral sucker to me.
They move like greased lightning, even the small ones, but they aren’t really distance runners. They tend to back up against a tree or creek bank when chased. These are not nice animals with no predators in Australia. They are hunted relentlessly by people, particularly in North Queensland, as well as by dingos. They’re shy, skittish and get nasty as hell when attacked. People are regularly attacked when hunting these animals.
Feral pigs tend to be nomadic, and in areas with plenty of free water their wallows tend to be changed every night.
The young ones can be run down on foot and captured live (trust me I’ve done it). A large number of professional hunters kill even the largest pigs using knives and dogs, the carcasses are worth more this way than if they are shot. Personally I think anyone attempting to cut the throat of a live and very angry 1/4 ton boar with 4 inch tusks is nucking futs but that’s beside the point. Point being stabbing a sucker with a spear would be more than possible.
Pigs are semi-social in nature and a young pig would almost certainly be with a mob, but they do get separated from their mothers. The one they killed on the show was quite possibly lost, exhausted and starving explaining why it looked drugged.
Having said that, there are also numerous feral pigs captured live and bred in captivity so it would be quite easy to obtain a tame specimen that would be easy to kill.
For my $.02 I couldn’t care less.
I’d vote myself off and let the whole lot of the useless, backstabbing whiney bastards starve.
Bwah ha hah ha hah ha ha.
I don’t think anyone gets attacked by a croc (alligator?). They show that stupid croc footage all the time, and it was totally separate from the person splashing in the water (probably in a separate location too). My guess is that someone jumps into the water to try and help whatever injury occurs, which makes me think of fire. Remember how Jeff almost got caught on fire while he was sleeping? Maybe someone actually does get burned bad enough to warrant the chopper. It could also be a snake bite or something, which if it caused someone to panic, they might just jump in the water and try to clean it off. They (CBS) are trying to make everyone think there’s a croc mauling so they get more viewers next time from the hype.
Though this brings up an interesting question. What happens if someone get’s hurt where they can’t continue anymore? Do they lose an episode then since there’s one less person to vote off? Or maybe that tribe gets a free vote where nobody gets voted off. (The person who’s already gone gets voted off).
And remember, they showed us footage of the helicopter, but maybe it was just bringing in a doctor, not necessarily taking someone away.
If it was a really serious accident (someone getting killed or seriously injured), we would have known about it by now.
I loved the comment (Michael’s?) about the tan lines on the others, but on Kimmi it was dirt lines. Gross! Ok, the water isn’t pure mountain spring water, but you can at least rinse off!
And as much as I dislike Jerri, she was right about not dumping fish guts in the water. They were just feeding the fish! Better to bury them.
Why didn’t they take the guts with them in the boat and dump some of 'em in the water when they were trying to fish? That would’ve attracted the fish and maybe a few would’ve been tricked into taking the bait on the hook.
Is it just me, or did Michael, Elisabeth and Rodger have a strategy lapse? Why did they all vote for Kimmi? The tribe now has (apparently) two three-member alliances.
They should have joined with Kimmi to knock off Alicia. Kimmi is a loner, who could always be picked off later. By voting against Alicia, they could have reduced the voting strength of the other alliance to two and consolidated the power of the Rodger/Michael/Elisabeth bloc.
As it is, it looks like they have a stand-off between two three-person alliances. (Not considering the possibility that somebody may get removed due to injury next week. They didn’t know that when they voted, of course.)
Grace has a point. They should have used the left over fish bits for bait. Actually, they should have boiled most of them into a broth, but barring that…
Didn’t they get a big net as part of their fishing equipment? Why aren’t they using it to seine the river?
Regarding next week’s accident, my money is on someone slipping on a wet rock and breaking a bone.
Jeff is the only one voted against in Kucha who hasn’t been voted out. Very interesting. Who exactly was in that boat? I know that Rodger and Elizabeth were there, but was it Jeff or Michael that was the third? Regardless, I think the non-Jeff alliance (Alicia, Nick, Michael/Jeff; or Rodger, Elizabeth, Jeff/Michael) got to Kimmi, even if Alicia was one of the members. Nick’s been pretty quite, and could have tipped Kimmi into voting for Jeff, so could have Elizabeth.
Regardless, Jeff’s out! That one really snuck up on me.
How funny was Jeff’s comment about wanting to rip out Ogakor’s eyes and feed them to Michael? Matt Lauer described Michael as “the crazy one” yesterday. And he didn’t sound like he was kidding. More sucking up to PETA, I guess…
Was there a specific rule in the immunity challenge that you couldn’t split the group up to find the medallions? I mean, I’d split up the tribe, find the first one, yell out to grab the second, etc. All those people running together just got in each other’s way.
