I did not see Jerri in her previous season, but she seems like she’s medicated right now.
If Russell was paying any attention to the jury at all, see would see that he is screwed. Courtney almost yelled at him last night. He can already write-off her vote, as well as Amanda, Danielle and Candice’s. Coach and JT are still up in the air. If Russell makes it to the Final whatever, he’s second at best.
I’ve always liked Colby, and I find it fascinating that he was essentially resigned to be eliminated right after Tom – and that was, what, week 4 or 5? Every week, he goes to Tribal with the minority alliance, and every week, he survives without seemingly doing anything. It’s awesomely impressive.
I’m really hoping now for Sandra to flip and join Rupert & Colby. It’s down to six people right? Next week might be a good time for her to do it: confirm the villians are going to vote for Rupert, and then give him the idol. Then they can get rid of Russel or Parvati.
They’re not booting him yet because it’s obvious to everyone that he’s not really playing the game. He absolutely SUCKS in challenges. He’s not doing any scrambling or strategizing almost at all. He’s not initiating any big plays (or even small ones). And tonight showed that the villains are completely aware of just how far out of the game his head is, because they actually confessionaled about it. It’s not impressive so much as it is pathetic.
His counterpart over on the villains is Jerri. The one thing that Colby and Jerri have in common is that neither one is actually in the game. They’re both there, but their heads are miles away. If Danielle’s slip in tribal council last night was Jerri’s first real clue that she’s not “in” with the main alliance of villains, then she’s just not been paying any attention at all this whole season.
I don’t know if it’s just that they’re both burned out on Survivor or what. They’ve been part of the Survivor community for almost 20 seasons now, over 10 years. They’ve both been involved in Survivor publicity and events that whole time. Jerri, at least, has been in at least one other All-Star season. Maybe they’re just ready to hang it up and mistakenly thought they could muster one more season of enthusiasm.
Colby was in *Survivor: All-Stars *along with Jerri.
Oh, yeah, I’m not saying Colby’s play has been impressive this season. Like you say: he’s done nothing in challenges; he’s done next to no strategizing; he didn’t even turn away from the TV when two scantily clad women wrestled over an immunity idol clue next to his bed. But those two women are both gone and he’s still there. I just kind of find it fascinating – it’s like the polar opposite of his first season when he was such a threat.
He had immunity though, so if he truely thinks the right move for him is to break up Parvati and “Danellie” then that was the time to do it. A lot can change over the next couple days, Parvati will simmer down, and if not, I don’t think he’ll have any problem dumping her and promise someone else the final 2.
Hopefully they can all see through his bullshit, though, and send him packing.
You’re right…I’d forgotten about that. Just proves the man has next to no personality to make me remember him. All he had was the physical challenge threat and that’s gone now.
Yes, I kept calling her Zombie Jerry last night. She’s lost w/o Russel telling her what to do.
That’s all for show. Rupert’s been suspicious of Russell since the first minute of the merge, and there’s no way he actually allies with Russell, though he’ll play nice for show.
Russell actually reminds me of Rupert–they are their own yin and yang. In the past, Rupert always had this mindset that his conception of winning Survivor was superior than the actual rules of the show. He would assume the role of protector, provider, sage, and shaman (though he was pretty bad at those last two), and he became a huge entitlement baby when people didn’t appreciate his work and team spirit, even though he couldn’t win a challenge to save his life or strategize 2+2. But he thought he deserved to win because he was such a big cuddly pirate-bear, and he’d hold the worst type of grudges when people actually tried to play to win–you know, the real Survivor, not just Rupert’s head-version.
Watching Russell, he’s doing the exact same thing. His version of Survivor is that the person who plays the grandest, schemiest Puppetmaster role is deserving. This, of course, is nonsense. Sure, strategy and manipulation is important, but it’s not the only thing. I didn’t see Russell in his first season, but if he played that one like he’s playing this one, then it’s no wonder that he lost. His type of play almost guarantees him a final 3 slot and equally guarantees him a final loss. He just does not get it. Bumping Danielle was beyond stupid, because it alienates Parvati and with Sandra on the cusp already (something that he should know if he wasn’t so high on his own “abilities”), he just turned what would’ve been a solid 5-1 alliance into a 3-3 or 2-4 free-for-all. He better hope he wins tons of immunities because there are enough people left eager to put him on the block that it wouldn’t surprise me if he got booted next (though the decision to keep him as a sure-fire way to siphon votes to your own cause may be on enough minds to have him linger longer).
I used to find Rupert insufferable, but now I’m rooting for him since he so obviously despises Russell and is in the best position to recruit others to the cause–plus, the stone-in-pocket maneuver was actually smart. And now Sandra looks exceptionally well-situated to simply go with the flow without an ounce of suspicion her way, until she’s ready to make her move.
Thanks for the heads up. I’d never heard of these videos before.
But… but… we never got to see what was on the note tied to Sandra’s HII. Darnit!
Do some HIIs usually come with notes? Any ideas about what it says?
Probst’s Blog is up.
Looks like there is just two episodes left, one next Thursday and the finale a week from Sunday.
He played last season exactly like he’s playing this one - if anything, he was more obnoxious to his fellow players last time. Clearly he was convinced he had already won that season when he went on H vs. V. He’s going to wind up with a jury of people who’d happily watch him get run over by a bus.
Looks like they are staying away from the Lost finale on the 23rd. Smart.
I don’t think it was all for show. With the way Rupert gravitated to the idea of voting for Danielle this week, and how oblivious Rupert is to the game, I think Rupert has the hard on. Colby could care less, he’s checked out ages ago and doesn’t even want to actually strategize. He’ll go with the flow but not with the massive hard on Rupert has for his supposed new alliance with Russell. I don’t think Rupert knows how to play the strategic game. He never has and never will. I could be wrong this time but I doubt it.
I know this game is almost fundamentally different than it was when Colby played so well all the way back in S2, and I almost think Colby is totally playing that card here: “Aw, shucks, don’t look at me, I’m no threat, I have no idea what game I’m even playing any more, I just want to eat my popcorn here, pay no attention to me.” It’s like one of those Wild Kingdom shows, almost, where the non-alpha gorilla starts trouble among the alphas and then secretly shacks up with all the females while the other males are struggling for dominance. There could be stuff going on in the background that we can’t see (the Editors don’t like to tip their hand and show all the fateful goings-on). Of course, I also routinely give people too much credit, so who knows. This is a different game than the one Colby originally played, at least insofar as now everybody comes in with 20 seasons worth of history to study.
Rupert does not seem nearly as obnoxious as he has historically been (and I like the guy, but he has been a bit of a giant emo-kid in the past). He’s almost in the same place that Colby is: doing whatever he has to do to stick around longer. I never thought he’d last this long, so good on him. I love that he loathes Russell so completely. It’s kind of funny. (I wish more people would say mean things about Parvati. I really want to smack her in the teeth. But I am irrational.)
And Sandra is doing exactly what she did last time to earn the million: whatever she has to. I guess that’s one of the advantages to being a sort of stealth/spite winner – nobody really considers your strategy to be good and valid until it’s too late.
By many measures, Parvati is the greatest Survivor to ever play the game.
Sandra had a LOT of luck on her original season, though. The final three ended up being her, Johnny Frickin’ Fairplay, and the Zombie Scoutmistress from Hell. Fairplay couldn’t BUY a vote and Scoutmistress shouldn’t have even been in the game at that point and everyone on the jury felt that way.
Another lucky thing for Sandra was that Scoutmistress was an idiot. The final three are as above. This is before the Final Three started going to Final Tribal, so the last competition is these three. Poor Sandra…Scoutmistress wins and gets to evict someone and go to Final with the other. And Scoutmistress evicts…JOHNNY FRICKIN’ FAIRPLAY! The only person she could have possibly won against. I still shake my head thinking of that.
I think so too, she has the social game perfected (flirting and friendships), she has a knack for the strategic game (from the double HII usage) and she can hang tough in challenges where she should excel in (balance and endurance rigged challenges).
Richard Hatch is only considered the greatest because he had no previous Survivor to use as a guide. He was good at many things but I think he’s not as good socially as Parv. He’s a better version of Russell socially, a strategic mastermind and a challenge threat.
