I thought Jane was a pretty horrible person throughout. Every time someon opposed her, it wasn’t that they were competitors, she saw them as evil. I just don’t understand the love for her and her Mammy Yokum laugh drove me crazy. I also can’t stand that NYC hate from a ‘real American’ act.
I was pretty surprised when Jane said she makes $50,000 a year. I thought her whole deal was that she was dirt poor and needed the money more than anyone. What the fuck?
I think people gravitated to Jane is because she actually prepared herself to play this game.
Amongst other things, she got herself in shape, she practiced making fire. She was obviously not recruited from the Los Angeles hot spots.
It’s quite possible that she’s leveraged up to her eyeballs. I know people who make three times that who are struggling to make ends meet.
So wait, what was the whole online ordeal about between Jane and Sash? Wasn’t that supposed bribery supposed to have influenced the ending? Anyone know more details?
The conspiracy nut in me thinks that TPTB gave Jane the “Fan favorite” edit to shut her up. Hush Money so to speak.
the fact that Sash was essentially ignored, and not even mocked for getting no votes, is circumstantial evidence that he was guilty of something.
Hmm, just found this interesting info from a commenter on the linked EW page:
Don’t know whether it’s true. Supposing the events did happen, Survivor should really be more transparent: show the events as they unfolded, then kick Sash from the show for a rules transgression.
ETA: Oh, apparently there is no footage if the actual incident…but if the quote above is true, that’s not a great way of handling it either…Also surprised the Survivors can get anywhere without cameras.
Could be, but I think she lied about her circumstances to get sympathy votes.
Sash should have been booted. What happened sounds suspiciously like a cover-up by producers concerned about the compromised integrity of the show. Wouldn’t surprise me if bribery like this goes on all the time.
Jane was clearly a fan favorite.
I don’t think anyone was gonna vote for Sash in any case.
IMO, because she was edited that way. TPTB could have edited her to be a total bytch and she would not have been the Fan favorite.
If they had proof, it would’ve improved their integrity if Sash was kicked off. But if Sash really did bribe someone, who would be smart enough not to do it on camera, and it basically comes down to who’s word they trust. Everyone here is just assuming that Jane is telling the truth. It wouldn’t surprise me if she was lying.
It would surprise me very much. Can’t imagine why she would make something like that up. Whatever else you can say about Jane, she seems pretty forthright. Nor would I put it past Sash to try to bribe somebody based on what we saw of him.
It also strikes me that keeping Sash around might have been an exercise in lawsuit avoidance. If Sash had been booted, I imagine he would have sued. In fact, he may have threatened to do so in the off-camera sessions at the tribal council. I’m thinking the producers kept him around just crossing their fingers he wouldn’t win (a situation which could have created a huge scandal). (And who knows? Maybe they had a quiet word with the jury members. Might explain why Sash got no votes.)
I guess it’s fitting that the worst season of *Survivor *ends up with the most boring Reunion Show everrrrr. They had to dredge up old *Survivor *contestants to make is seem interesting, and actually I think that made it worse.
Anyway, I think Fabio deserved to win, and the only thing I was confused about was that I thought Brenda voted for Sash. I guess I saw that wrong.
Oh, it looks like the next season is in Central American, too. Bueno, I guess.
Yes and no. It was undoubtedly the most half-assed and dull reunion ever, but it wasn’t the contestants’ fault. The producers seem to have lost their way trying to make a spectacle out of it when it simply does not need to be. We didn’t need Terry Bradshaw or Boston Rob or Naonka’s mom or Chase’s song, etc. etc…
Get rid of all that crap and make the reunion about Jeff talking to the players, period. As I recall, they’ve always given everybody at least one chance to speak, and now there’s, what, five people who didn’t get to say a single word? That sucks.
All that said, I’ve been rooting for Fabio since the merge, and I’m happy he won. Goofy or not, he really seems like a good kid. But final TC was a letdown. Everybody was way too polite! Jane and Dan had some nasty comments for Sash, but they were relatively mild. I was hoping for lots more crazy.
I’m not at all surprised that Jane won the Fan Favorite prize, but Jeff repeatedly called her “likeable.” Sorry. I just don’t see it. Cranky old lady. I’d avoid her IRL.
Yeah, but Fabio doesn’t really need the money. Remember, his grandfather invented the color wheel. He must’ve been collecting residuals for years.
Jane was likeable, back when she was kicking ass at the challenges. After her meltdown of epic proportions? Not the least bit likeable.
I have to say that these guys did suffer a lot. Sash and Fabio were emaciated towards the end, I would never have recognized them with their weight but back on. Of course , they cleaned up a lot, too.
Eh. The most boring season in recent history, but at least the nice guy won and there were some entertaining final council rants.
I guess it boils down to definitions. I admired her toughness and determination, sure, but I never did like her. Ever since her irrational Marty-hatred she rubbed me the wrong way. Her constant self-referencing of her own toughness and determination helped solidify that. And then as her petty, spiteful, and vindictive nature started coming to light more and more, my distate eventually turned to active loathing. By the time she childishly doused the fire she’d already lost me.
