Survivor: Palau 3/16 (Wednesday) (that's TONIGHT)

Even he realizes that Julie isn’t the sharpest crayon in the box.

And Jenna M. is?

Absolutely. What makes you think she isn’t?

Hogwarsh. The outcome of the challenge allowed the winning team to eat a hearty meal, eavesdrop on the opponents’ tribal council and actually have a hand it its outcome. Probably one of the best rewards ever.

Hogwarsh again. It is entirely his fault that he adopted a defeatist attitude and didn’t even try to talk anyone into getting rid of their power players, or even the laziest girl on the team (she’s so lame I can’t even remember her name).

Besides, how was it any less fair than 2 people getting automatically eliminated at the very beginning of the game, without there even being a challenge to try to win? Those people got chosen for Survivor and didn’t even get to play, they just got sent home almost immediately! Willard has had several weeks now to forge alliances and at least make himself useful around camp, even if he wasn’t strong enough to pull his weight in physical challenges. He could have “helped himself” from the very beginning. He didn’t, and he paid the price for his laziness in every aspect of this game.

She isn’t very nice, I don’t think, but she’s very bright. After all, she won, didn’t she? She outplayed Rob C., which is something, at least. And she landed Ethan, who is no slouch, either (although his taste in girlfriends clearly leaves much to be desired).

Technically, they got 24 hours to play, during which time they needed to get to know the other people in the game as well as possible. I honestly think the guy got voted off because the last woman to pick a guy simply didn’t know his name and was too embarrassed to say “The cute guy” rather than “Willard.”

Wanda, of course got voted off because she added a whole new meaning to the term “annoying fruitcake.”

No Rich Ratings this week? :frowning:

But you could make the exact same case, that “nothing was going to help him”, if this episode had featured a normal immunity challenge and Koror had lost. I mean, seriously, all you’re saying is that Willard was the obvious choice for who Koror would vote out. And he got that way by his own behavior in the game. He made himself the target. Koror came within a hair’s breadth of losing the immunity challenge last week. And I tend to think that Willard was as much the obvious choice by then as he was in this episode. So if Koror had lost last week and voted out Willard, would you call that unfair? No, you’d call it Willard’s own fault, or just the way the game goes.

So I still don’t see how fairness even enters into it. Whether Koror had to vote because of losing a challenge or by fiat from Jeff, the results of that vote were still dependent on how the Koror members had played the game up until then, and Willard played a crappy game.

Come on, aren’t you really upset because the rules of the game got changed in the middle in a way to your disliking? But unexpected twists and rule changes have been a part of Survivor since series 1. Remember, Richard and co. didn’t even know how people would get ejected from the game until the first tribal council. They had no idea that the two tribes would merge until Jeff told them. Was that unfair? Was it unfair when Shiann shot herself in the foot by assuming that the tribes had merged? Was it unfair the first time Jeff mixed up the tribes halfway to the merge, messing up some people’s carefully formed alliances?

Every season has featured at least one surprise that could be called a “rule change”. That’s the nature of the game! It’s part of what make Survivor more interesting than a chess game.

See Post #41.

Sadly, I haven’t had the chance to get a copy yet! No rebroadcast!

I know what happened because I’ve read recaps, but that would be a poor way to do a Rich Rating.

Can I get a guest commentator to fill in this week?

DAMN DVR!

Well, somebody’s gotta do it. So I’ll give it a try. It won’t be up to the standard set by watsonwil, but hopefully it’ll be better than having no Rich Rankings at all.

------NEWSFLASH-----
March 16, 2005–New York. The United Nations announced today its international panel of meterologists has conclusively determined that this winter’s deadly tsunamis were caused by an immense sucking vortex in the area of the island nation of Palau. There remains a considerable amount of controversy about what might have caused this tremendous vacuum. Palauians have remained silent on the subject. But local investigators have reported hearing whispers of a word that sounds like “Oolong.” Television producer Mark Burnett is wanted for questioning.
(K or U for Tribe and Last Week’s Rankings in Parentheses).

FORGOT TO FILE A 1040- I guess you couldn’t outwit everyone!

Wanda,Jonathan,Jolanda, Ashlee,Jeff, Kim—I’m just glad they’re gone.
Willard- (K/Merge)—Well, watsonwil got on the Willard love train last week, but it turned out to be a short ride. In one short episode, he went from a shrewd dude who could go all the way to a crabby, lazy, weakling who stole Coby’s shirt. But a gracious exit interview made us a little sorry that he was voted off so soon.
Angie- (U/Jerky)-She received an automatic demotion to Eating Beef Jerky because all the Ulongs did. But who would have expected this? The immense suckitude that is Ulong ended up biting her in her very white ass, even though it wasn’t time for her to go. It made me hate Ulong even more. Angie—I didn’t particularly like you, but I’ll miss you all the same.
EATING BEEF JERKY- You’re still playing, but you’re praying for a tribe scramble!
Ibrehem- (U/Jerky)- You finally made an impression, and it wasn’t a good one. I wish there was a category below Beef Jerky just for you.
James- (U/Jerky)- Why he didn’t get voted out this week instead of Angie, I don’t know. I’m praying that he’s either gone next week or that he receives some clothes, because I’m really sick of looking at his nutsack.
Caryn- (K/Jerky)- No change from last week. You’re still a sour harpy who’s secretly in love with Tom. But I guess you’re more useful than Willard.

WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT A MERGE?- Middle of the pack players, the lotta ya!
Janu-(K/Merge)- She seems to be quite ill. I hope she gets better soon, as I have an irrational like for her. While she may not be in with the Koror Kool Kids, she appears to be reasonably well liked in the tribe. But we still haven’t seen enough of her to make an informed judgement.
Bobby Jon- (U/Jerky)- I like Bobby Jon more and more each week. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to be thinking strategically at all. He’d better get some game going, or he’s likely to find himself chopping trees at loser lodge.
Katie- (K/Tom)- It seems like many of her tribemates are getting fed up with her. Apparently she’s lazy. She might be in a good alliance right now, but if she’s in danger of getting dumped if it becomes expedient to do so.

HEY! LOOK AT HIS MOHAWK-You might make the merge, but you’re grimacing from the jury row!
Stephanie- (U/Jerky)- I think Burnett will jigger it so at least a couple of Ulongs make it to the merge. Stephanie is the most likely candidate. She’s physically and mentally strong. Her lack of leadership and her inability to conceal her frustration at losing do trouble me, however.
Jennifer-(K/Tom)- She’s drawing attention to herself for all the wrong reasons. She’ll probably stay in the game for a while, as there are other people higher on the to-be-dumped list, but she’d better prove her worth to someone other than Gregg.

LOOKING FOR A BIG TOM TO ENGLISH DICTIONARY- Big Tom has spent more combined days on the show than anyone. But he didn’t quite grab the brass ring.
Coby- (K/Big Tom)- You’ve put in some good performances in challenges, and you’re thinking strategically. In the first episode, it seemed like you were one to stir up trouble just for the sake of it. But by now, we see that you’re willing to bide your time. You’re flying under the radar at this point, and I think you’re in a good position to make a move when the time comes.
Tom- (K/Rat)- I would have left you in Rat, but there can be only two. You rock just as much as you ever did, but you’re just too obviously strong. You’re going to get taken out at some point because you’re a threat. Hopefully, it won’t be soon.

ARE YOU A RAT OR A SNAKE?- Reserved for a MAXIMUM of two players. You have to be in the driver’s seat for this spot.

Ian- (K/Rat)-Still sittin’ pretty.
Gregg- (K/Tom)- And the political game at Koror gets started! Who would have expected you to be the sneaky one? You’re in the best position right now. You’re in the central clique, you’ve made a secret alliance with the outsiders, and you’re not an obvious “leader” like Tom and Ian. But your greatest weakness is your budding relationship with Jennifer. You’d better take care of that before your teammates do

I blew the First rule of show biz. Never let them pick a guest host that good!

BRAVO, Green Bean!

I’ve always said no good will come from these new-fangled inventions! Better luck next week!
But, Green Bean, we will have to start calling you Swami Green Bean for your superb skill in channeling watsonwil 's voice! An excellent job!

Damned fine job, Green Bean! No wonder they named a casserole after you!
