Survivor: Palau 3/16 (Wednesday) (that's TONIGHT)

This has been a Forgetful Doper reminder. Because god knows I need them from time to time.

I’m excited. This season has rekindled my love of the show.

Amen to that. I almost gave up after last season … but my beloved nerdy dolphin-boy has recaptured my interest.

Oh, and the game’s just better, too.

Thanks for the reminder, Ethilrist. Mmm … gettin’ my nerd lust fix early this week!

Also, found an article on CBSnews.com which poses an interesting theory as to why the Ulongs suck so hard:

Probably explains why I’ve fallen so hard for Dolphin-Boy and Fireman-Stud.

I did give up after last season and am loving this one. And, I’m not completely sure why. I think it’s a combo of:

  1. One tribe sucking so horrifically that it is fun to watch
  2. The I actually really like a couple of those left on the horrific tribe
  3. I absolutely love any challenge that involves direct contact between tribes. So much more interesting than the normal build a fire challenges.
  4. Ian and Tom really rock.

Yes. Yes, they do. I lurve them.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy! I am so excited for tonight’s episode!

The promos have been shouting that both teams will go to 2 tribal councils–or something like that. Something’s weird about the wording. I wonder how it will play out. It would be really sucky if Koror was forced to vote someone out. It would be really extra sucky, but deliciously hilarious, if Ulong actually won the immunity challenge, but then had to vote someone off anyway. Of course, there could be a tribe shuffle of some sort.

But if Ulong stays in its current form, and they do have to vote somebody off, it’ll be interesting to see who they choose. Nobody on that team is safe. James is in the most danger, but if he plays his cards right, he could easily get Ibrehem booted. I’d rather see Ibrehem go. James is odious, but entertaining television. Ibrehem–well, the coconuts have provided more drama than he has. Literally.

In defense of last season, only the first part, roughly up to the point where Chad was voted out, sucked. Watching the “women’s alliance” implode once they realised only one of them could win and Chris’s incredible comeback was great TV, even if Twila was somewhat gypped by the differing standards by the jury.

However, this season has been cool from the outset mainly down to the sheer likeability of everyone on Koror, with the possible exception of Caryn and Willard. Damn the fact that I’m out of the country at the moment!

Yes, indeedy. The challenges seem better this year. The Survivors themselves are better. Who knew one tribe sucking so much more than the other would be so much fun to watch?
Tom and Ian REALLY rock.

I have a theory. It’s a WAG theory, but still. As far as I can remember, the rules have always been that in challenges, the team with the greater number cannot sit out the same players for two consecutive challenges. Someone on the staff must have done the math and figured – hey, if Ulong loses another IC, and Koror doesn’t, then it will be 9 vs. 4, and that rule would be violated.

So, what if TPTB decided they’ll have to fix that? So they came up with a challenge where both tribes have to go to TC, but the winning tribe would be able to vote for someone on the other tribe to go home. So, if Ulong wins, then they would still have to send someone home, but they would also get to vote to send someone from Koror home, so they could at least try to stick it to them on the way out the door. Vice versa for Koror. In the end, it would still be 8-4, so there would be no violation of the only rule in Survivor that seems to mean anything any more (i.e., no one can sit out two consecutive challenges).

(Sorry for this long-ass post. I think the sinus meds have just kicked in.)

Heh. I’ve started in on the menudo. Spicy-style with some Tabasco thrown in to boot. And lots of onions and cilantro. Stupid colds. :frowning:

What is this “menudo” of which you speak? Usually I use horseradish, but that isn’t real appropriate at work.

Menudo recipe.

The folks on Survivor would kill for this stuff!

[sub]See how handlily I related the hijack to the OP? [/sub]

I haven’t seen any promos for tonight’s show, so I could be off, but I suspect a tribe mix-'em-up event tonight.

I, for one, hate the tribe mix’em up. Always have, always will.
I’d rather they just leave them be and merge them earlier if one team threatens to Pangong itself out of existence.

From my digital cable guide about tonight’s show:

The Ulongs go in search of a cave during a rainstorm and get lost in the forest.

Nothing too spoilery, just boxing for the truly virginal.

Here’s my guess, nothing but intuition:

Yet again the poor Ulongs lose the immunity challenge, bringing them to four members.

Then they bring the Korrors in, and do three rounds of voting, with each ‘loser’ being sent over to join the Ulongs.

Result: back to 6 vs. 6.

I wonder who the Ks would vote out in those circumstances?

Does anyone but me think that Fire-Daddy & Dolphin-Boy are some sort of Karmic pay-back for that season with Andrew the complete asshole & Ryan the poor booger-nosed geek who never got a chance?

Ooh! I like that idea! I really don’t like the idea of Koror having to vote somebody off the island even if they win immunity, but I don’t have any problem with them just voting some folks over to the other team. It might add an interesting dynamic, with the folks that are kicked over being mad at whoever they suspect of being behind the vote to jilt them.

(I think your math might be suspect, however. If Ulong has 4, and Koror has 9, then sending 3 over would mean that Ulong has 7 and Koror 6. If they send 2 over, however, that leaves Ulong with 6 and Koror with 7, meaning that they still have a numbers advantage, which only seems fair.)

Pearl Islands. Yes. But I don’t think Andrew was a complete ass, just a mostly-ass. Still, though.

I’ve been rooting for a tie vote since sometime during the Amazon. Finally!
