No, it is not rigged. What possible benefit would CBS get out of it?
As Bryan Gumbel said in the post game show, Colby hated Keith so much that he was willing to give up $900,000 so that Keith wouldn’t be in the final 2. I think Colby just lost it at that last moment.
When the winner was announced he pretended very hard to be very happy. I just can’t imagine someone who just lost 900K could be that fist-pumping, Tina-hugging happy.
I don’t watch the damn thing, but from what I’ve picked up by cultural osmosis, I gather that Colby could have eliminated his strongest contender and virtually locked a victory for himself and the million bucks. It’s also apparent from discussions like these that by NOT doing so he has sustained interest in himself, and apparently come off seeming like a really good guy with a lot of integrity, even at his own expense. If you want to assign a selfish motive, you can realize that the million dollar prize isn’t the real payoff for the last few survivors. Can you say “endorsement contract”? “book contract”? I thought you could. If he makes himself the most popular celebrity out of the bunch, he’s quite likely to make far more than a million bucks out of the deal.
I can say “endorsement contract” and “book contract” but I don’t think even Richard Hatch has got a million dollars from all his deals together. I heard the Reebok deals were 20K or something like that.
Besides, you can win the $1M and get the endorsement deals. What makes any of them popular or not is what they did during the whole 41 days, and not a last minute mistake. Elisabeth is the most popular. Colby is just coming across as a mental klutz. During the show he can already shown that he can lie and scheme with the best of them.
Rigged? Who knows. As far as the “timeline” between the voting and the reading of the votes/reunion, even during the live showing they stated that the voting had been done several weeks prior to that night. The winner was announced live. The show was filmed months ago.
Don’t jump to conclusions. The fitness of this action really depends on the cranium due to be the recipient of said blow.
Back to the subject at hand: if it were rigged, I think they could have (and would have) done a better job with some elements. The fact that some of the results seem incredible is probably good for the buzz of the show.
