Survivor Season 43

Well, that was certainly a season of Survivor. Dull, but another season.

The last three seasons have not been very good.

I actually think my wife and I really enjoyed last year, the second version of the 29 day “hourglass” system.

It is showing some signs of not being as good. I feel like they need a home-run season with great people. It’s the cast. This year’s was dull.

Note that there will be issues with Grabler donating the $1M.

If the Studio is willing to pay the funds direct to the charity, there should be no issue.

But if Grabler has control of the funds even for the moment, he could owe somewhere around $500K in Federal & state taxes, Now depending on the rules for the tax year in which he gets the funds, and how “qualifying” the organization is- he can take a deduction for 30% to 100% of it. If so taxes should be less, but a below the line deduction is not as valued as an above the line deduction. It could cause tax issues.

I hope CBS allows him to request the funds to be paid over directly. That would be simplest, probably.

I would think he means he is donating whatever he gets to the charity. I think CBS has a contract to pay the winner the 1 mil and they will do so.

Honestly, I was surprised Cass got even the one vote. She won a couple challenges (all three of them did), but what else did she do other than coast along by not being a threat to anybody? If anyone else had won that final immunity, they’re taking Cassie as a goat, guaranteed.

I thought Owen might get a few for having to constantly fight and scrap his way up from the bottom. While that may have been his own doing in part, he was forced to work harder to get to the end than anybody. He impressed me much more than Cass did.

Gabler won because he won the fire challenge and was the least worst of the three so the vote exactly how I expected.
Had Karla or Jesse made it to the finale they would have won against cassie or owen…
As for this season what struck me was the rarity of idols, people not looking for them and not using them.
We need more idols to stir the alliances otherwise its a borefest.
I like the double tribal councils where two are kicked out. That can create havoc…

Maybe or maybe not. It seems like the jury was more voting against, rather than for. Karla and Jesse pissed a lot of players off. Gabler basically did no narm.

I guess it falls into the “we can never know” category, but IMO Jesse is a unanimous winner against any two of the final five. Most of the jury seemed to be openly rooting for him in the fire challenge.

Karla, I’m not sure. She definitely would have had a chance to win if she’d made the final without Jesse there. It would probably depend on how she handled the Final TC.
