Survivor Spoilers Thread (The Sequel)

We are really critical on the Necklace Four for being so blatant, but really the Old Fogey Four took the first shot across the bow. Not only did they team up against them, they bad mouthed them to Silas (who I am sure shared such info with his accessory clad allies). I think they knew that they couldn’t pull any of the old ones on their side, so they performed a unifying action (partially to shore up Silas’s loyalty?) Sure does make for great television though, dudn’t it?

Another thought for all to consider: Is it just me or have Tom and Clarence bonded? Everytime they show Tom doing something, Clarence is right there with him. Of course this is true of episode 2 and Tom still voted for Clarence. I wonder does Clarence know that it is Tom who has cast the two votes for him thus far? Is Tom keeping him friendly after his shout out to keep Clarence from voting HIM out? Is Clarence playing an angle or trying to rehabiliate himself in Tom’s eyes? I can’t wait until more attention is shown on this plotline.

Predictions for Week 4:
Kelly if Boron loses.

Linda if Samburu loses.

Gut feeling says Linda is the one who will go as Samburu will lose the immunity challenge.

Right there with you on those predictions. I think Linda will definitely be the next to go from Samburu, either this week or next.

watsonwil - Good point, and I’m glad that someone’s remembered the whole purpose of this little excursion. This isn’t a friggin’ morality play (and some of you have read WAY too much into Richard’s unexpected victory). You can’t tip your hand too early, you can’t stick out as a threat, and you can’t antagonize anyone in your tribe. Period. If you do, it’s your neck on the block, regardless of how “right” you are about anything.

From where Samburu stands now, it may actually be to the advantage of the Necklace Gang (could someone think of a better nickname for this group?) not to win immunity again. If they knock off their foes within the tribe, they don’t have to worry about one of them making any deals with Boran. In any case, Frank, Linda, and Theresa are in a serious hole, and it’ll be a miracle if even one survives. (If that happens, I’m betting it’s going to be Frank, because he’s so domineering that even Boran won’t be able to stand him.)

That’s where we’re at, and round 4 looks like it’s going to be very revealing. Can’t hardly wait.

But if this happens, they will go to the merge 6-4. If previous rules are upheld (and the trends hold true to form), the Borons will cull them one by one.

Of course, I think Burnett casted this cast full of people who will break the post merger alliance trend. Maybe a Clarence or a Kelly will jump over to Samburu?

That’s assuming that one of the tribes develops a strong alliance without anyone else knowing (as on the first Survivor) or the the tribes become bitter rivals (the second). Neither seems to be the case here.

If Boran leads 6-4 going to the merge, the tribal lines could disappear right there. Sure, it’d be easy to wipe out the remainder of Samburu, but would they all go for this, knowing that there can be only one? (Remember, Rudy and Sue didn’t win!) I could easily see Silas, Clarence, and Lex each going their own way.

I hope it doesn’t come down to tribal allegiances again, or else we’re in for yet another incredibly anticlimactic round of tribal councils. If this happens, they’d better have more than two tribes the next time around.

Last week I said Silas was smart; this week I’m saying he’s a fool. He was set, as part of the 5 over 3 majority, he had nothing to fear from the next three councils. His worst case scenario was for Samburu to lose four straight immunities in which case, he might have been the one voted out. Best case was for one young Samburu to make it to the merger, reunite with the tribe, and pick off the Boron minority. Silas was on the inside track to make it to at least the final few weeks with virtually no effort.

Instead what does he do? Having annoyed the young Samburus by allying with the older ones last week, he jumped back to the young ones resurecting the 4-4 split. Granted, he got lucky and he’s safe for now with Carl’s departure. But that was way too close for anyone to consider that a plan. Lindsey came within inches of being voted off, which would have left Carl stuck in the sinking “Gen X” ship. Having established a 4-3 majority, the older team wouldn’t have needed him back either. Even now, you have to wonder how safe he is. If the young team gets another vote ahead, they might start considering how Silas jumped teams twice already and how much of a threat he’ll be in the individual challenges.

On a related note, why did several of the Samburus seem to not want to admit to Jeff Probst that the tribe had split? I can see where this would be valuable information to conceal from the other tribe, but everyone within the tribe knew the facts and obviously Jeff would have seen the tapes from the camp before going to the council. Who did they think they were fooling, and why?

And on a seperate note, do you think that Diane and Jessie knew going into the council they were leaving. If I was a tribe member and I realized no one else was telling me who they were voting against, I’d obviously figure out it was me. Did the other players make even a token effort to convince Diane or Jessie that the group was going to vote off Clarence or Kim? Or did they just take them aside before the council and say “sorry, but you’re dead meat”?

Okay, everyone, check the time stamp on this post.

I forgot to enter my picks for Munch Yahoo! thing this week, so I’ll make my prediction mid-show.

Although this is a bit of a gimme, since Samburu just lost the challenge.

Anyway, I bet Samburu votes out Linda.

…aannd I was right. But as I noted, of course this was a minor victory.

I hate seeing those nitwit Samburu youngsters get even more snug, but on the other hand I can’t say I’m sorry to see Linda go.

Don’t let your Goddess hit you on the backside on your way out the door, hon.

I watched this edition for the first time tonight, and I can tell you that I just loathe Silas. Colby charmed me in the last one. Silas leaves me cold.

My other newbie observation: That tribe is doomed if they don’t get their act together. They need a Michael-Skupin-like tragedy to draw them together and make them like each other and want to work together.

Mrs. watsonwil and I were just commenting that this Silas guy is Colby without ANY redeeming qualities.

Linda was the odds on favorite to get the boot. I think the majority of the dopers called her.

Keep your eye on Frank. If he can make the merger, jump ship and win a few challenges, he may be right in there. All he needs is a split in the other tribe.

Lex is still my guy. Kim was saved one more week.

It looks like the rules change WILL happen. I bet next week, the players will be split into three tribes of four. I have no idea how immunity will work, but the teaser said watch the FIRST fifteen minutes and we will see something that will go against conventional survivor rules.

Just finished watching tonight’s episode. (With life around my house as crazy as it is, I very rarely have the luxury of watching anything live.)

I’m with Fiver; I’m glad to see Linda go, and I’m glad to see that the system works. What system? The one where dangerous types get ejected early, before they can be a threat. The Richard type (cunning schemer who everyone understimates) is one, but Sue (self-righteous, vindictive preacher who’s a tad nuts) is every bit as hazardous. Whatever favorable qualities Linda may have had, moralizing sealed her fate. And I definitely won’t shed any tears for contestants who just never learn. Yo, it’s not whether you win or lose, because there was no way in hell that you were going to win.

Thoughts on some of the others:

Silas - I think it’s still too early to make any big pronouncements on him. He wants to win this thing, and he’s going at it full-bore. If he boasted to his tribemates that they could give him the million right away, that’d be disgusting (and pretty much seal his fate), but…like Richard (sorry, there’s no getting around it)…he knows the difference between public and private comments. As long as he’s not outright tanking any immunity challenges, I think he’ll be around for at least a little while longer.

Frank - Another contestant who’s an extremely slow learner. It’s not good enough to be “right”. If you annoy other people, and if you try to be a leader, you’re dead. Debb Eaton pulled nearly the exact same thing in Survivor 2 and was reduced to an afterthought. Sure, Richard slid into the final because his biggest enemies wrongly thought that he wasn’t a threat, but this crop is very wise to that tactic by now and will stuff it cold. Unless Samburu wins immunity (and pending the rules change, if in fact it does split up the tribes), he could be gone by the next tribal council.

Tom/Clarence - Now that Boran’s found its stride, I think they’re safe for now. Tom has a slight Sue factor, so he may be slightly worse off.

Lindsey - Man, is she taking things way too hard. I don’t think she’s a bad person, but her response after the last tribal council was totally inappropriate. Unless she can learn to shrug off these “insults” and work toward securing her position, she could be in trouble.
Have no idea what that big change is going to be about. Won’t speculate.

What was Lindsey doing to her teeth in that night-vision shot? Brushing them with a Q-tip? I think she is a smug bitch. I can’t stand her. That whole young group makes me want to just smack them. I loved that Frank got them up to get water.

And how the heck did Silas get such bright white teeth after 12 days without a toothbrush? He flashed a 500-megawatt smile at Jeff at the very end of TC and I was nearly blinded by the shine. Maybe his luxury item is Crest WhiteStrips? He seems like a sleaze to me. I wouldn’t trust him at all.

I think they were idiots for getting rid of Carl. They need strength now, and he would have been a help in the physical challenges. As Jeff said, if they go into this with the 4 younger ones, and 1 older one, that older one is going to jump ship and join up with Boran. They will alienate that last oldster so much they will kill themselves.

I also can’t stand Kelly on Samburu. She was admitting they were at fault for not having water, and not playing as a team, but then just shrugged it off, like “Oh, well” and giggled. Not gonna work, sweetie!

Why was Kim having so much trouble in the food challenge? I saw her slowly walking across the netting. Was she afraid of falling maybe? I would have jumped back down from grabbing the basket and rolled back to the ramp. Or were they not allowed to do that?

posting quick before work, please forgive any typos, be back later…

Good episode. I only caught parts of it (my MIL was visiting and I was trying to update my web page at the same time), but the parts I heard were fun.

I really would’ve liked to see Boran win the reward, but that was not to be. I do find it funny (sortof) that Tom, the most stereotypical Southerner on TV today, was not eating the corn meal because it was too much like grits. I say sortof 'cause I did get the feeling that Tom was serious and that if he doesn’t eat he could be in trouble (maybe that explains where those 80 pounds went).

Linda, sweet Linda. I think it is now fairly obvious that it’s not nice to fool Mother Africa. You can’t be a spirit-worshipping “we-are-all-one” priestess and an “in-your-face-we-won-you-suck” bitch.

I think this rule shuffle is really going to rattle them. They’ve been aligning themselves based on the idea of merging into one tribe when there are ten left. I guess it all depends how the shuffle goes. Will it be names out of a hat or will Burnett divy them up based on some sadistic need to manipulate people (i.e. put Frank, Theresa, Silas, and Brandon together)?

I’m surprised and delighted at how my first impressions have been confounded.

When I first met these people, I thought Boran was a bunch of idiots. Pouring out your water, indeed! And it seemed like Samburu had their act together.

Tom was a racist and Clarence was terminally without a clue.

Now, a few weeks later, Tom and Clarence seem like the best of friends; we rarely see a shot that includes one without the other. All six of Boran seem to like each other, and they even go on hikes as a tribe.

While, over at Samburu, the alliances stupidly revealed themselves, there’s no cohesion whatsoever, and they’ve broken all their water pots! What a bunch of stupid fucks!

I think the ballyhooed rules change is a red herring. I think something much more subtle than a tribal reorganization is in the works.

I am willing to bet that they are going to keep the team sizes the same (six and six). Immunity and luxury challenges would get too complicated with three teams.

I think that they are going to take three people from Boran and switch them with three people on Sambuca. I don’t know how they will decide who to switch, but I bet they will break up the alliances as much as possible.

Then, when the two teams merge things will get really interesting. Will the players go back to their old teams and alliances or stick with their new ones.

I looooooooathe Brandon. “I NEVER think for myself, Jeff. I never go ANYwhere without my 3 new-best-friends.” Oh.my.gawd. Africa is not good for his majesty’s disposition. And when Teresa asked him “What is in it for me to vote for Lindsay again?” he spat back victoriously, “Absolutely NOTHING!” Uh, not a good way to win friends and influence people, Bran.

Lindsey is a bitch. “How DARE they pick ME?” First of all, hon, it’s a game and them’s the rules. Secondly, you WERE the one lying prostrate all day because you had allowed yourself to dehydrate. Thirdly, YOU alienated all the older people with your clique mentality. Who better than you?

Silas is an idiot. Colby was the perfect combination of manipulator/diplomat. Silas doesn’t even pretend to be a diplomat. And he just ruined any chance he has of winning by not being a peacemaker when he had the opportunity. From the look on his face after the vote, he knew it. He now has 3 votes against him. Lindsey has 4. Neither has a chance in hell of winning the million now. And they have no one to blame but themselves.

I love Frank. He works hard, he loves his kids. I liked Linda, even though she was a freakin flake. She was so right about saying to them, “If we had won, I GUARANTEE you that we wouldn’t have come back to camp and gloated about it.”

Lindsey. What’s the matter? The cruel, cruel world too much for ya? Ooh, you’re so fierce. I think Lindsey got in over her head and isn’t coping well. Poor thing. Someone should heat some metal in the fire and brand a big “L” on her forehead.

The younger Samburus (Suburus? Sambucos?) have not been thinking ahead. Their strategic position sucks. Any fool could see that splitting the tribe would be a death sentence come the merger. Their “strategy” has been foolish.

So now the rules will (it seems) be changing. Why? Because the producers know Samburu is meat. No audience excitement there. If the tribes are shuffled, it will make things interesting. If not, then I think Frank will be next. Why? He’s the strongest. They don’t want to go against him when individual immunity is at stake. Plus, he’s the one who disturbs their beauty sleep.

I don’t see any comparison between Silas and Colby either. (Except maybe that they both have really good teeth.)

Colby was very smart. His strength didn’t win all of the challenges for him. He also won the giant memory game, the trivia contest about team members and the sling-shot game. Colby was strong, smart, cute, honest and likeable. Silas is only cute and strong.

So what the heck are the Sambucas doing for water? They busted their last pot, so how do they boil it? Are those youngsters actually so stupid that they would vote Frank off - if so, we might actually see the first death on Survivor. These idiots almost oversleep the reward challenge, win only cause Kim hands it to them, then grouse about waking up to get water the next day, then bust their last pot. I still don’t see why they need to sleep so late. There’s nothing stopping them from napping later on in the day.

How soon until Frank or (who’s theother oldster, Tia or some such?) tell the Borings how many votes Silas and Lindsey have. Who do Frank and Tia vote for next week, those 2 or one each for the other two?

It is certainly possible that the rule change may be a red herring as suggested. Are they just making up these rules as they go along, in order to influence the product/outcome as they wish?

Silas is funny. He is trying to act like a responsible take-charge kind of guy, but he clearly doesn’t have a clue. Loved it when he got down on one knee.

If the shuffle is true, I think it was planned all along. They didn’t want a repeat of last season where both tribes merged with 5 members each in fairly tight groups. The first team that stumbled (Kucha) then got picked off one-by-one (except for that weird risk they took tossing Jerri). No drama there.
