So as someone who has never played an MMORPG before and hasn’t the slightest clue about what the hell he’s doing, would this be a good one to cut my teeth with?
I think the answer was originally “no,” but they decided to allow some customization because companions became useless depending on your spec even if you really wanted to use them, so they gave an option to spec their talents to complement yours.
It should be. As far as I know, most of the meaty content is soloable, and even the earlier group content is theoretically rather forgiving (except for elite areas, which are just sidequests). It shouldn’t be too bad for a first MMO, it’s certainly not a callback to Ultima Online or anything.
And I might add, if it’s your first MMO, a Doper guild is a supportive group for a newbie (based on my experience with WoW).
Yay!! How does one join up? I’ve been pre-ordered since July; just go to the website and through the guild options that I haven’t looked through yet?
If you go to the guild page on the SWTOR website, you can search for guilds by name. You should be able to find Jragon’s “Burning Womp Rats” and – somehow join (not sure exactly how that works)?
If someone wants to start an Imperial adversary guild, be my guest – I’m stymied in my ability to come up with a decent name. (Minions of Cecil?)
I’ll probably create toons on both sides but end up playing on whichever side Dopers are the most active.
Yay, applied!
I’ve done the Reluctant Guildmaster tour a couple of times, but only after I know the game a bit. I learn by playing, rather than studying it all and then going in. Evenings and weekend playtime for me, here; I like Darth Cecil as a guild name, lol. Might start it up if it will let me, if I’m already in the other guild. (edit…nm, can’t create if you’re in one already, or have applied, which makes sense) I’m guessing a few people can make different guild names just to see what’s available, and as we get nearer narrow it down a bit?
Here’s how much of a noob I am…So do you have to play a single character or can you have multiple ones? Should I research what I’m going to do before buying the game and joining or just buy it and worry about the rest later.
You will be able to have multiple toons. I’m not sure how many, but probably more than you realistically need.
OK, (sorry for spamming this thread), but is there any particular place where it’s better to buy it? I’m not sold on the Digital Distribution places yet. Does the “Deluxe” Edition add anything important? Will probably buy soon.
The Deluxe and Collector’s Editions add some in-game vanity items (I think the DE lets you get a free vehicle when you hit the appropriate level, and also includes a CD of game music). The items are things that might be fun to show off – since it’s the only time they’ll ever be available – but won’t affect gameplay. Just speaking for me personally, the cost was a driving issue so I got the Standard Edition. You’ll have to decide if the extra cosmetic goodies are worth the extra price.
As far as where to buy it - I believe its available for pre-order at places like GameStop and Amazon. I got mine on Origin where you can order either the digital or DVD version. I’m not terribly sure it makes a difference, although someone may correct me. I do tend to avoid GameStop just because they have a reputation for being evil and not necessarily knowing what they are talking about.
Did anyone ever create an Empire Guild? I joined the Burning Womp Rats giving them 4 people meaning it can be Deployed (whatever that is).
I also have no idea what I’m going to play, I guess I’ll make that decision on the character selection screen. But knowing me, it’ll be some form of ranged dps -type character
Cyberhwk, don’t worry about asking too many questions. I bought from Amazon and I added on next day delivery so I hope to be online as soon as possible after release. I got the Collector’s edition for the in game toys.
Bird – have your pre-ordered and redeemed your code? It says that only 3 of our members have pre-ordered, so we can’t be deployed (whatever that means).
Missed Edit: It looks like deployment means that we get assigned a server and put in Early Game Access together (and I redeemed my code about an hour and a half after pre-orders were announced, so I should be high on the priority list, so if you all come with me you’d probably get it pretty early…). However, you need at least four PRE-ORDERS, not just members, to do that.
I haven’t formed an Imperial guild, and I’ve registered my pre-order code, so I can join BWR tonight to give us the 4 needed. If there’s enough pre-release interest in an Imerial guild someone can still form one, but we’re always free to start one after launch as well.
Huh… now we’re “ready for deployment” it looks like it just took a bit to figure out that Bird preordered.
And equally predictable, I’m looking at the healer-types. Imperial Inquisitors are cool because they can do that lightning-from-the-hands thing like the Emperor, but the Republic counterpart will be fine (the name is escaping me at the moment).
I’m in; I applied to the guild last night. Probably will try out Consular first, which worked out nicely since no one else had picked it yet. We’re already balanced!
How does this work between continents? I preordered ages ago, but am in Europe. Will I have to play on European servers (and hence, maybe, have an EU SD guild)?
Well, I thought I had applied, but when I go to the guild options on the SWTOR board, it acts like I’ve never applied. Will have to look further; should I try again?
NM…went to the guilds page itself and I’m in. Thanks!
BTW, I’m open to play any class; I learn as I go anyway, I just chose Smuggler to choose something.
Also, 'Kincaid’s definitely a smuggler name, and I am going to make him one, whether or not he gets played first.
BTW, while I’m very female in real life, I play both sexes. I’ll let everyone know who I am, and in fact my first long-term character will probably be named Taomist or Taolynn just for nostalgia purposes.
