Syncing iPod (stupid question).

If I automatically sync my iPod to iTunes, will iTunes merely add the songs that are on my computer but not my iPod, or will it literally sync the two, i.e. add songs to the iPod *and *delete songs from it so that the two playlists are identical?

Thanks.

It will make the playlists the same (add and delete) if there is room on the ipod and it will update the playcounts on the computer.

The current iTunes library on the computer will be pushed to the iPod, removing everything already on the iPod first. iTunes offers to transfer purchased songs from the iPod back to the computer, but you can’t use iTunes to sync an iPod with two computers simultaneously.

Blech. That’s pretty damn lousy, IMO.

Oh well, thanks.

It makes sense, it’s syncing. If you tell it that you want the Varlos Goes Dancing playlist on Monday, then on Tuesday you take songs out of that playlist in iTunes and added other songs to that playlist in iTunes, why should it not duplicate the playlist exactly on the iPod on Wednesday, even if it means removing songs that are already there? Why would it do anything different at all?

Exactly… And if that’s not what you want, then disable automatic sync and copy files manually.
