You can’t have that right after ice cream!!, you… goyishe you

Goyishe?? Them’s fighting words. I know my rights. I wait a full hour after dairy before I have my BBQ pork.

I *still *don’t want to be here. I *still *don’t want to work. I *still *want to go home. Dammit. If I didn’t have to queue up a report at three, I’d say screw it and take some leave. But, I’m all responsible and shit, so I won’t do it…damn work ethic…grumble…grumble…
I got stuff wrapped up about an hour ago, except for one process that is taking a really long time. So now I really really want to go home (well, to the grocery store) too, but I have to wait for the process to finish since someone needs the results. Blah. So now I’m getting caught up on the Dope.
Yay for almost the weekend!
Yay for irrational panics…
Safeway’s got a special on wonderful thick, meaty and juicy boneless pork chops at $1.99 a pound. I need to go back and get more!
In the spirit of Labour Day, I managed to create 132 action items for our vendor. I’d say I’ve managed to be wonderfully productive today, no?
Of course, I’m half expecting they’ll claim it doesn’t count because it’s past sundown on the sabbath and ergo, they’re not permitted to do any actual work. Hmph.
And speaking of sabbaths… It’s officially the WEEKEND!!! Well, it will be once I convince the Angry Russian to pack it in for the day, anyway… seeing as I’m carpooling with her and all.
MamaTigs, I’ve heard of falling asleep in all sorts of random situations, but with a mouthful of coffee is a first. You sure someone hasn’t been swapping your regular brew out with decaf?
gotti, that’s the upside of this whole silly ZOMGITSTHEDEADLYOINKOINKFLU!!! panic - cheap and plentiful pork products. I certainly can’t complain too much about anything that results in a freezer full of heavily discounted bacon.
This would be a bad time to mention I live in the heart of BBQ country, right? And that there’s a hoppin’ BBQ joint right down the road from me?
Mmmmm…ENC BBQ. It’s the only kind that doesn’t make me sick.
There’s a decent BBQ place about three blocks from my front door. Sorry, Soapy; it’s just true.
Sounds like I need to check out pork prices at the grocery, too.
Feel better soon, by the way, Soapy.
Happy May Day to those who observe it today.
::Waves at SO::
So, what are you doing these days, Nava? Are you going to be in that translation graduate program, or are you still waiting for answers (hope I didn’t miss an update about this along the way)?
We just had a water-filled storm move through here, with tornado warnings juse east of us. Ick. When I got home, there was water flowing over my gutter, because apparently teh water couldn’t make it down the downspout fast enough. Need to get up there to make sure there wasn’t anything blocking the downspout, but there was all kinds of water coming out the downspout, so that seems unlikely.
Cleaning and putting stuff away in anticipation of little brother’s stop here tonight on his way home from England…
I saw that you volunteered for Monday, FCM. Yay!
Back later…

If you’re worried about swine flu, perhaps you need to contemplate The Tao of Pooh.
I’s full of bbq ribs and chicken. MMMMMMM… and baked beans, fries, slaw and corn bread. URP!
Oh and I mortified ol’ y’all know who in the grocery store afterwards. See, da Pig is havin’ a sale on cheese, so I had to go stock up. Plus since we were there, I bought ice cream cause we all know what an essential food group that is. So, we’re standin’ in the checkout line and I place three gallons of ice cream and a bunch of monterey jack and extra sharp cheddar cheese on the conveyor. The woman in front of us looks at what I put down with a kind of “ick” look on her face, so I said, “don’t you just love to put warm melted cheese on top of vanilla ice cream!” Ol’ y’all know who got this “oh no you did not just say that out loud!” look on his face and the woman looked all horrified!
Swampus, my favorite joke about grocery stores and mortification:
Home, full of bad Chinese and chocolate moose crap ice cream, and very very tired. It was a long, boring day till about 2 hours before quit time - then I had to run some models. Problem was, I’d never done that particular kind of model, and the training manual didn’t address it. Lucky for me, my mentor was still on the premises, so I IM’d him and he came down to walk me thru it. Unlike our straight training sessions, this time, I had questions I could ask that were directly applicable. Anyway, he showed me what I needed to do, then hung around a bit, so when I got an error message, he was able to explain it to me. And when I was done, I told him the program needed to do an additional calculation, and he agreed. He’s going to talk to the guy who developed the program - hope he can do it.
Sooooo, I took all the applicable data I got from the model runs, put it in a table, giving the task lead the info she needed for her write up. Then I left.
Shortly, I will assume the knitting position. The kids are gone to my mom’s for the night - they’re going to a Fairy Convention or some such thing in Pennsylvania tomorrow. So the house is ours! YAY!
TGIF.
You are evil, Swampy! I approve!
Nope, I buy the coffee, it’s definitely the real thing. I was just SO bloody tired it was unbelievable. For several days, I’ve been getting up a couple hours earlier than usual, then working like a madwoman all day – because everything was expedited, except for the things that were NOW!NOW!NOW!NOW! – and late, late, LATE into the evening. Then fall into bed when I couldn’t hold my eyes open any more, rinse, and repeat. I was getting less than half my normal sleep, and producing more than twice as much work as normal, with only rare breaks to maybe watch a TV show for an hour; I was even having to eat dinner at my desk because the daily [del]swine[/del] [del]H1N1[/del] ZOMGITSTHEDEADLYOINKOINKFLU!!!flu briefing would arrive right at suppertime and by the time I got it done Papa Tigs would be keeling over from hunger if we didn’t go ahead and eat, so I just wolfed and worked.
So it’s no wonder I nodded off mid-swig. Although I will confess that I impressed myself, too – I’m not normally one who totally drifts off like that, that’s Papa Tigs’ job!
Anyway, I finally woke up enough by midafternoon to run my check up to the credit union and give Isaac a RIDE in the CAR ohboy!ohboy!ohboy!ohboy!ohboy!, and since then I’ve just been fixing hats. One of the women who volunteered to knit black hats for the charity sent me two that need some ripping and re-knitting – she got a little carried away and lost track of how far she’d knit from the edge of the brim to where you start the top decreases, and then instead of ripping them out just went ahead and did the top. So the hats are several inches too tall. I modeled one for Papa Tigs, and it completedly covered my eyes even with the brim folded up. Oops.
Needless to say, I’ve advised her to restrain her eagerness in the future.
But I didn’t have to practice knitting right-handed – she’s another leftie. I was actually a bit disappointed; I was hoping to have a project to practice right-handed knitting on. Wouldn’t stockinette be easy if you could just knit back and forth without ever turning the knitting over? (Yes, I’m weird, I realize this already.)
Back to hat-fixing. And then an EARLY bedtime!
Hey, i have that on my Facebook page!
And Spaz and Swampy- I WANT BBQ!!!
The steaks I grilled were yummy! I’d been sipping on a Hurricane. One was enough, need to let it go through my system because soon I need to pick my son up from work.
Maybe I can get my daughter’s boyfriend to do it.
Saw X-Men Origins: Wolverine today. Totally worth it for the Naked Hugh Jackman. Heck, they didn’t even need to bother with a plot or other actors I would have been happy with just two hours of Naked Hugh Jackman.
I planted a bunch of seeds Sunday and most of them have sprouted (the carrots and a couple others are still holding out). I hope to plant them in self watering containers which I need to get to work on making because some of them are growing fast. I’m not really much or a green thumb but I am determined to try and grow some vegetables. I am all excited and nervous about them. They’re like my tiny little babies that I want to protect and have grow big and strong so I can eat them.
I missed the game. Canes lost, so I guess it was the one to miss.
Whew, weekend is here, finally.
Sorry the 'Canes lost, Doggio.
Don’t have any plans for this weekend other than a trip to the grocery store. What a fun life! One of these weekends, I’m going to get to a nursery and get some planters, soil and plants to put out on the patio. They have to be shade lovers though.
Has anyone else gotten into Twitter? Is it just one more thing for me to lose my mind on?! LOL
up, caffeinated, off to work.
Up. Little brother has left for home. I need to go to the park to monitor plant sale activity and maybe buy some herbs.
I slept really really well and didn’t even wake up at 3:30 as I’ve done all week. Off to forage.
