Take a look: a cool site MMP

Blurf indeed. I am here and awake. It’s already 41° so there will be open windows later, and I have flowers coming up. Finally spring begins to show itself.

Good Monday to all!

Blurfy Monday, everybody. I’m definitely feeling crappy today – had major insomnia last night. I really do not like this insomnia business. To be more specific, it totally sucks.

A couple of my favorite sites are Passive Aggressive Notes and a recent discovery, Zooborns. It’s hard to go wrong with photos of cute baby animals born at zoos around the world. I also love Jorge Garcia’s blog (Hugo/Hurley from Lost. He’s as cute as himself as he is as Hugo!

I’m embarrassed to admit that although I’ve become a rabid sock knitter, GT, I have not yet knit the Monkey socks. Or the Jaywalker socks. Or the Pomatomus socks. Or any of the other ridiculously popular socks. I keep meaning to, but then I find another pattern that I like better, or I just knit plain socks. Like I started last night – I realized I didn’t have a pair of plain, basic socks on the needles, only fancy ones. So I cast on a pair. Those and the hats for my charity can be my minimal-attention-needed knitting projects for the near future; things like the lace scarf demand at least minimal quantities of attention so as to not totally fubar them up.

Oops, new rush job just arrived on my desk. Off to work.

ETA: Google is celebrating Samuel Morse’s birthday by putting up the name in Morse Code. Cute!

OMG the zoo babies are CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTE!

:: falls over from too much cute and the attempts to hold in the squeals so my coworkers don’t think I’m insane ::

Huzzah, I have written another paragraph in my conclusion! It sucks, but it broke through my writer’s block.

I am seriously debating turning on the AC. Which pisses me off royally – it’s way too early in the season to have the AC on! But it’s 85°F (29°C), and the house is rapidly getting uncomfortably warm. I’ve got fans running, but it’s not quite enough. I just had the heat on to take the chill off the house not 3 days ago, dammit! Mother Nature is really messed up this year!

Urk… no. They’re all convention center staff. I think the center has first pick of people applying for “greeter” jobs at Walmart, as these people are all right around retirement age.

The attendees, however… So many young and middle-aged (Hello Daddy!) and furry geeks! Not nearly so many bears at the Linux or Oracle trade shows.

It’s a blurfity day. And COLD! One week ago, we were all dying of 95 degree heat, and now it’s cold. Who’s screwing with the planet’s thermostat?

Our business continuity people are paying attention to the swine flu situation, but then, they pay attention to just about anything that might affect more than ten people, looking out for anything that might mean closing locations or moving things and people around. I get updates from them, and you’d almost think they were a military logistics unit.

On the home front, we bought a new patio door as the one that was built into the house is falling apart and we can’t get parts. Seems to be a neighborhood curse as our neighbors are also getting a new door for the same reason.

Bad night. Eyes still crossed.

And yea, I want backup that this is seriously fucked up. Quasi-Daughter and Driving Husband finally broke up a couple of months ago. Yesterday, he asked her to go clothes shopping with him for stuff for his publishing internship. I think during shopping, he announced that he had no money, and would like her to pay since she didn’t get him a birthday present. They broke up around his birthday.

What the hell?

Okay, you expect your ex to hand you money for lots of new clothes why? And he lives at home, doesn’t pay rent, and his most significant expenses are his new computer (so he could play WoW) and a lot of bar bills. And he has a new girlfriend. Who’s nineteen (he’s 27. I think), whom he didn’t ask for money or help shopping. (Sorry. Last time they broke up he went after a girl four years younger. We think he’s going through a quarter-life crisis).
We’re thinking about smacking QD with a clue stick (she actually paid for some stuff because she felt bad about not getting him a present), and cordially removing Driving Husband’s kneecaps for him. The gall is incredible.

I told Mr. Lissar and Attacks Husband while I was on the phone with her, and they agreed with me that he lost any claim to decency and also his Man Card.
Can not believe this. So stupid.

LiLi, take away his Man Card, then flog him silly with a trout wrapped in foetid chitlins.

Since I haven’t yet played with the OP, here are some sites I frequent that have not been mentioned to date:

Why You’re Fat
Pencognito
Neil Boortz’ Redneck Scrapbook

::zoooooooooooommmmmmmm::

Hey have y’all ever seen stumbleupon.com? I can’t do a real link 'cuz it’s blocked at work.

::zooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooobabies!!!::

Howdy Y’all! Four down and one to go! WOOHOO!!!

Y’all are determined to fill my haid full of sites to waste even more time on! :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh and since I just know everybody is stakishly fascinated with all the minutiae of my life here’s a link to my hometown newspaper. Readin’ some of the goin’s on there may offer up some explanations as to why I am like I am.

LiLi I second the rotten trout/foetid chitlin slap for Driving Husband. He needs divorcin’. Just sayin’… It might not hurt to whack QD with a clue by four as well.

Dindin tonight shall be smoked poke chops (I know! I know! I like to live on the edge), green beans, parsnips (what? I like 'em!), mac & cheese and cornbread. I’s hongry for some real food!

Ok, best go get dindin started.

Later Y’all!

I am boycotting This Is Why You’re Fat, because the authors are lazy bastiges who used user-submitted content to earn themselves a cushy book deal.

The foodie blogosphere is full of righteous indignation over this, because there’s something offensive about how the rest of us slaving away to create new content all by ourselves while two hipster douchebags can get rich by starting up a site and then sitting back while everyone else does the hard work of finding content for them (and that’s not counting the ad revenues they pulled in from the site alone).

LiLi, I think it’s time to smack QD with a clue-by-four, and smack DH with a wet trout. I can’t believe he had the chutzpah to ask her to buy him clothes, and I can’t believe she lacked the nerve to tell him where to shove it.

That said, part of the problem is that DH needs a serious dose of grow-the-hell-up… he’s headed down the windy path that will turn him into That Guy - you know the one I mean, the one who gets stuck in the early-20’s irresponsible slacker phase.

That Guy lives at home or in a dumpy basement apartment, works part time in some unchallenging low-paying job, spends most of his paycheque on beer/his sweet-ass computer/XBox Live/gadgets/more beer, and dates a constant stream of young impressionable girls who think he’s cool because he’s older and “doesn’t buy into the system” (and who inevitably dump him when they realise he’s actually just too lazy/stoned to be part of the system).

It’s all well and good when That Guy is under 35, but one day he wakes up and realises that the sum total of his achievements to date are a phenomenal beer gut, an impressive collection of videogames and if he’s been particularly irresponsible, an expensive drug habit and/or an itchy crotch from their last stripper girlfriend… which is not a good place to be if his friends have all moved on to steady relationships, families, careers and all those other stable responsible things he’s spent his life avoiding.

I say this as the frustrated friend of a prime example of That Guy, who is now living on welfare in a crappy apartment because he simultaneously pissed away a good job and landed himself in rehab… which is really just the latest chapter in a years-long saga.

/second rant

That’s seriously effed up, LiLi. I would’ve had to have a long conversation with myself about the consequences of drop-kicking his ass in public if that happened to me.

Here’s another cool site that I just remembered: http://www.superdickery.com/
Odd panels and pages from comic books, mainly from Olden Dayes. The Seduction of the Innocent and Weird Science are my favorite galleries.

Oooops…I neglected to include some links to sites I visit on a daily basis, so here are a few:

http://www2.newszap.com/delaware/milford - this used to be a news site, but now you have to pay - except to read the obits, which is what I check on. Heh. This is where I went to HS at

http://www.roadfood.com - Jane & Michael Stern’s site; great forums and great people - I’ve met some of the folks here and they’re a great bunch!

http://www.delawareonline.com - this is my hometown newspaper in Wilmington DE

A belated hellooo to SpecialOne and to kai as well - a special shout out to spring finally arriving on Kodiak Island!

The trouts are just flyin’ around today!

I am a dang good cook! MMMMMMMM… dindin was nummy! I do believe I shall require “appreciation” for such a nummy meal.

I have boring bookmarks. Really. Well, except for the mumper food blog and spaz’s Agony Aunt Ryl. It’s stuff like links to NOAA, weather.com, newspapers in Etlanner, Columbus, GA and Albeeny. A link to a local tv station. Oh and a few I won’t share but gotti would like or probably already has.

I just remembered I was going to post my Spazghetti Sauce recipe. Here t’is:

Spazghetti Sauce
0.5 - 1 lb. ground beef
1.5 chopped onion
3-5 cloves garlic

Simmer all this together until the beef is browned and the garlic is soft.

1 15-oz can tomato sauce
1 15-oz can tomato paste
1 cup water

Add to above, stir, cover, cook 15 minutes

Add spices–this is the most important part. The ones I always use are:
basil–about a pinch
sage–about half a pinch
thyme or oregano–a pinch
parsley–three pinches
black pepper–upend the shaker and go to town (I love black pepper)
ground cloves–just a touch of this

Stir again, cover again, cook another 15-30 minutes. It gets better as it ages, so definitely make enough for leftovers.

I’m serious about the cloves. That’s the most important secret ingredient. It brings all the flavors together.

I am too tired to follow all these links. Sorry, folks.

Whatever flu is headed our way (if it is) the annual flu shot that was touted last flu season will not protect you. I read that today. Sorry, no link.
Maybe DH was just getting back at QD for keeping him on the hook for so long re the Proposal? Other than that, I got nothing.

I’m going to take a bath and watch bad TV. Work was long and hard today. My boss (the one I sub for when she’s on vaca) called me from AZ to tell me she won’t be back on Wednesday and could I cover for her. Um, no–because I work Th, F and Sat at my other job and I need a freaking day off to get some stuff done. I told her no. She seemed surprised. Keep in mind that the primary reason I got this job was because I wasn’t going to quit my other job and that’s what they wanted. They didn’t want to give me a lot of hours. Hello?
The world is grey today. Bleh.

Home. Exhausted. I do not want to work any longer. I wish to live a life of leisure.

I got up with FCD, made his lunch, my lunch, had breakfast, loaded the dishwasher, read my comics, dressed for work, knitted, stopped enroute for gas, and got to work about 12 minutes early. Unfortunately, our team chief wasn’t very efficient - he let us out about 20 minutes late. There was hardly anything to do till 90 minutes before quitting - all of a sudden, we got 2 big taskers, both of which are passed to night shift. so ha ha to them!

After work, I went to daughter’s class - the 2nd graders did their musical program. It was cute. We got home around 7, and I am finally in a comfy robe, chillin’. Tomorrow, I’ll be going straight from work to class, so I need to remember to take my Save the Whales pig with me. And my report. Crap, and I need to finish my notebook.

I’ll post some links eventually.

Is it Firday yet???

We’ve had it on since Saturday night–it was absolutely stifling in here. Ugh.

Most of my favorite sites have already been mentioned, such as Questionable Content and Superdickery. If I come up with any more, I’ll try to remember to post them.

Today was a beotch of a day–since we’re on this 4-day work schedule, my co-conspirator was off today. Today I had so much work without her that I’m so frickin’ exhausted I can barely bring myself to make dinner.

However, I did spend two hours shooting video zombies, so that made me feel better.

two weeks.

two weeks.

My semester is over in two weeks!

(cue happy dance)

Good lord, what a horrendous commute. The longest part was a total distance of maybe 3/10ths of a mile. The road was all backed up due to the grand opening of the Sonic. I saw my son handing food out of the drive through window as I sat in traffic waiting to go through the light and get home.

It took me 20 minutes to travel that short distance. Ugh. I sure hope the excitement dies off quickly.

I guess I should figure out the dinner thing.

Laterz.
