Me too. After racing over so they could leave for the hospital I had a hellacious time getting back to sleep. I think I fell asleep about 20 minutes before the munchkin woke up for the day. Getting her off to preschool went smoothly and I crawled back into the guest room bed. Finally got up, ate some Asian salad for breakfast and am now Doping on the couch, ready for Grandpa to drop her off from preschool. Mac and cheese is on the menu for dinner-she’ll help make it.
Boo’s grand baby is taking his own sweet time. Just got a progress report text from the Papa. All is well, but this labor is going more gradually than the first baby. No clue about the name yet, they’ve been cagey about that. About all I know is that it is a boy. Will let y’all know when I know something.
Thanks everybody for the kind, excited thoughts. You all are making it even more fun for me!
Must resume sloth-will have 3 hours of a super-charged 3yo to manage soon. Thinking of tempering that with a popsicle for her and some Daniel the Tiger YouTube videos.
My daughter was doing research into preschools in this county. At the moment, she’s on the waitlist for the HeadStart preschool, hoping that the pediatrician’s recommendation for speech therapy will get her a slot. But just in case, she looked at what’s available.
Bottom line - nothing they can afford. Nothing for under $1K/month and frankly, I don’t think they can afford even half that. So fingers crossed that Roxy gets in to the county preK.
It’s been a day of leftovers for me - all 3 meals! Well, almost. I made salads for supper, but they were topped with leftover chicken. And dessert later will be the blueberry crisp I made 2 days ago!
I’m hating the lap robe I’m assembling - so may little pieces - 81, to be precise. But it’ll be done before we head to Baltimore on Tuesday and it’ll be the last one I do for AARP. There’s a local nursing home that will accept donated afghans, and I’ll make some for them when I feel the need to knit or crochet.
Big plan for tomorrow - our gutters get cleaned at long last! Yep, the excitement never ends…
It’s 81f outside at 2:48, heading for 84f they say. I need to go upstairs and pack some more stuff. Joy.
The news this morning; some homeless people are camped outside the kids (Daughter Unit and Fams) house. They showed up yesterday and there’s already a huge pile of trash in front of their
side gate. More than you’d think would fit in their trashy old car. Grandson reports that he’s seen them doing drugs. Cops went by today and told them to leave by tonight. We’ll see if they do. Much texting a phone calls between Wifey and our friends who live over there, plus the Daughter Unit. SIL left work early to go home. He’s an EMT and might go out there and try to give them a drug assessment.
Today we took 3 more boxes of clothes to the good will people, took 3 storage boxes full of train stuff to the storage locker, stopped by Safeway to pick up a prescription and straighten out a couple more, and stopped at BiMart for more storage boxes (totes). Somehow, while I was talking to the pharmacist at Safeway, a small cake leapt into Wifey’s cart, so that’s for dessert tonight, after BLTs and corn onna cob.
Hattie’s preschool is the campus lab school for the College of Education and $1000 is close to what it costs monthly. It’s full day 7:30-5:30 with breakfast, lunch and snack. Works well since her papa’s teaching office is across the driveway from the lab school so they commute together. But egads! the cost!
Just heard that because of the newly declared Juneteenth federal holiday I will have her the whole day tomorrow~her preschool is closed since it is a land grant university. Betcha that is going to have a lot of parents scrambling. Harriet just calls Grandma Boo for a day of Basement School. I’m planning an entire inside day because of our heat index.
And as if I don’t have enough excitement in my life, Consumer Cellular just informed me that my cheapie phone, which apparently is 3G, will no longer be supported after July 15. But they offered me $15 on any new phone they sell (or I could get one elsewhere) and it’s financed at $5/month and 0% interest. Bottom line, a new phone and my phone bill is $5 more per month till it’s paid off. I call that a big, fat, hairy deal!
The hassle will be configuring the new phone - I don’t think I can transfer stuff, other than making sure my contacts are on the SIM. Not that I have a lot of apps, since I mostly just use it to text and, yanno, as a phone. So that proves the Covid vaccination didn’t give me the power of 5G!
I called my old boss and let her know about the cow-orker. She’s not in AFib and her ‘injection fraction’ is good. It was good talking with her.
I decided we’re having salad for dinner. I thought I’d make meatloaf, but they didn’t have any pork. I got a pound of frozen ground veal instead. I’ll make meatloaf on the weekend. I got a block of local blue cheese and some tomatoes to put in the salads. There are a couple of hard-boiled eggs in the fridge. I’ve cooked four rashers and chopped them up. So Spring mix salad with bacon, egg, blue cheese, and tomatoes. We have Bob’s roquefort and Bob’s blue cheese dressings. I also got some fried chicken, and I had a thigh. I was getting hungry! Who knows? Maybe that will wind up in a salad eventually!
It felt strange going to the supermarket on a weekday. I felt rushed on the way home, feeling as if I needed to get back to irk. But we’re not irking today. It will be weird going to Seattle tomorrow, and I’ll be home later than when I work from home on Fridays. I wonder if Mrs. L.A. will eat before I get home, or if she’ll wait so we can go out?
Our new grand Mumper is here! Born a few minutes ago~mana and baby are doing fine. His name is Sorensen Ray McName. Don’t know his weight yet, he was busy eating. Got a FaceTime peek at him-sweet face and bright eyes, very alert.
Giving his big sister a bath and then reading til bedtime. I’ll go to bed shortly after since Juneteenth has closed her preschool so she and I will share a day in Basement School. Fine by me, it’s even cooler down there.
Howdy Y’all! After a burst of productivity, i.e. yahd mowage, this mornin’, Olympic level sloth set in. OK, I did make slaw and hot dawgs got grilled, but still… We had some quality cee-mint pond time and nappage.
wordy one of my things to do after mowage is to strip down to my undies and take a plunge in the cee-mint pond. Now you have that image stuck in your haid.
Nellie we have a rider and a push mower. We take turns. Today I mowed the pushy parts out front while OYKW rode, and he did the pushy parts in the back while I rode. Sometimes just one of us does all the mowage. That is way more likely to be me than him. I don’t mind mowin’ so much but he hates it.
Boo Hippy pathy buth buthuth buthudday to the new little! (I’m hoping I got the vaguely remembered Winnie the Pooh quote right.)
swampy I’m wishing fer a ceemint pond. Alas my (not so) vast acreage doesn’t seem to have the space for it. Also, I live in a place where the weather sucks 7-8 months of the year. Sucking being on the cold side.
Happy Grandmom Day II, BBBoo. Sorenson, eh? Nice, unique name but you know the other kids will call him ‘Sores’ or Sorey’, don’t you? Kids is mean…
swampy, decided to hold off mowing for Sunday or Moanday…the front yard is coming up nicely, but the back seems to be lagging…maybe seed it this fall…
Had no idea daycare cost so much…hope they can work something out (or maybe if you need a new career, FCM…
CHB consumed for dinner, so all is right with the world. Refereeing at a soccer tournament tomorrow, three games in hot weather, so wish me well. Solved a mysterious charge on a credit card–turned out to be my Amazon Prime membership for 2021-22. Have to write that down somewhere so I recognize it in the future.
OK, everyone have a good night (or for our Euro MMP’ers, a good morning).
His papa mentioned they might call him Ren as a nickname.
Thank you everyone. It’s so lovely having friends to share good news with.
I have to get enough sleep tonight to be bright-eyed and on top of things at 630am when she will crawl into the guest bed for her morning cuddle, from then on out for 13 hours it will be full throttle high octane 4yo. She takes no prisoners and the Geneva Convention does not apply in Basement School.
The glimpse I got of him on FaceTime he was a cute little’un. Can’t wait to get my hands on him.
Hattie and I each had a popsicle after supper. At 6pm it was still 102 outside. Hope it is more amenable where ever you are.
Normal level of irk irritation, desk move is pending (bit of a shuffle going on to correctly organize newbies and sups). I don’t think the AC on the bus was working, then there was that hike from the bus stop to the mini-cavern. Bonus points: DH finished the bottle of apple juice in the fridge and didn’t put the new one on the counter in there! Settled for diet root beer in the interests of getting cold liquid ASAP. The Princess was annoyed that I considered this more urgent than the royal supper. She just had to cope.
I walked to the P.O. to mail a package. The plan was to head to the gym from there, but my sister called, and no phone calls allowed in the gym, so I spent 2 hours pacing in the shade behind the gym. Close enough, I guess.
YAAAAAY! It’s a hap-hap-happy day with the new Mump, Jr.'s arrival! Congrats, Boo! I like the name, and if they call him Ren, they won’t be Sorry. I bet Harriet is thrilled.
NOW I’m imagining you on all fours chewing clover.
Oh, my word, I taught that story to SO many freshmen. I probably should have referred to nitre instead of cobwebs, huh? “I must not only punish, but punish with impunity.” Poe was a strange duck, but nobody does horror better.
flyboy, I hope she waits. I always like reading about your Friday dinners out with the Mrs.
swampy, I’d gladly do OYKW’s part if I lived nearer. My cee-ment pond is my bathtub. I guess that makes it my porcelain pond.
MetalMouse, good luck tomorrow. Please don’t melt.
We’ve made it through Move Day. 85% went pretty much as expected, 10% presented some challenges, and 5% involved moving the safe! The latter almost became a boat anchor – but [Admin] and I figured out a solution. As I left Harbor Island this morning, I talked to the fish [There’s a salt water aquarium in the orifice] and wished them well; was a bit melancholy about leaving Seattle after 122 years; and then promptly got stuck in truck traffic. Once I was free of it, I didn’t look back. The new office is a very pleasant place to be…
At this point, most of the kitchen appliances work but we will not have countertops until June 30th. This also means there’s no kitchen water or ice making until then. There are few other minor things on the punch list that will be finished up over the next week or two. (BTW There’s no sense getting cranky or upset about it. No one of consequence (me) will care or listen. (-: ) …
RE: [Cow-orker], the latest report is that he has been discharged and sent home to recover and quarantine. He’ll be working from home as soon as he is able. I suspect we’re looking at a few weeks before he can return to the office.
There you have from the thriving metropolis of Seahurst AKA Burien. See you tomorrow.
