Well, it’s a new day. I kept myself busy all day yesterday, ending with going to play trivia with some other Dopers. None on whom showed up. I had to join my “foster” team that I met last time the Doper bunch couldn’t find their way TO the bar.
Anyway, it was a light hearted evening, so I actually feel much better today.
Michael’s widow called and left a message while I was gone. She always calls on his B’day and that other day. We have a good cry together. It gets us through the year.
Once again, I can not overstate how much all your support meant to me. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled MMP.
Good morning, and Happy Mardi Gras!
It looks like it’s gonna be another dull day at work. No projects, just busy work.
Can you say boring?
I’m glad you’re feeling a little better, Picu.
Oh, just call me mika. I rather like the name, so feel free. And I’m glad you liked the story.
Another bitterly cold day in the Capital Region. Could everyone please have some sympathy for me, Taxi, and Spat, who are all freezing as we make our way around?
: pauses for sympathy :
Thank you!
pic, you are a real trooper. Just remind yourself, he would want you to be happy.
welby, you cannot post a leading statement like that. Now you have to tell. It’s a rule…sommers.
fcm, I’ve been thinking about your project. Since you are in charge and there are no guidelines, simply declare the project a complete success, e-mail all the appropriate supervisors, and give yourself a raise.
Not much else going on here today.
Tupug
Wikipedia’s take on lice removal:
zuma, I love your name. It reminds me of one of my favorite little online games…have you ever played Zuma? Did you perchance name yourself after it?
picu, I second you being a real trooper. Lots of love.
Picu --I find that so poignant and sweet that your DIL calls you. What a kind and loving act. I’m glad we could help yesterday–and any day, prn.
I am much sicker than I thought I was–I have no strength, no voice, snot(well I won’t go there), and aches. I am going to rest all day (which I really didn’t do yersterday) so that I can go to the wake tonight for John. I am just so sick about that–2 boys and a baby girl who won’t know their Daddy.
Beautiful, sunny, if cold day today here. Nice to see the sun here in February.
pic glad you’re feeling better today.
zuma interesting link. Especially the picture of looking for lice by candlelight. Sounds like it’d make for a romantic evening don’t it?
I has a meeting scheduled for 10 this morning. It is our regularly scheduled monthly management team meeting. The boss is home with a migraine, so the meeting is counseled. Yay for the canceled meeting! Boo for the migraine, cause she has especially bad ones and I like my boss. So, now, instead of going to a meeting, I get to participate in a conference call at 10. At least with the meeting I could be my usual smartass self. I have to sorta behave on a conference call. Oh well, at least I like all the folks who’ll be on the call, so there is that.
Tonight I’m making pancakes and bacon. It was gonna be sausages, but somebody did his sad puppydog eyes look at me and asked for bacon. One of these days that’s not gonna work. Well, after all he did cook supper last night and made spend the night night special.
welby glad Vegas was fun. I won’t ask cause I know the Vegas rule. One of these days, I intends to find out for myself whatever it is that goes on in Vegas that has to stay there.
This is the MMP, there are no rules!
I’ll tell all anyway. In short, we had a blast. The only real negative was the hotel. We picked the particular hotel we picked because it had a pool and sauna. both of which were closed for renovation (bastards!). Other parts of the hotel were being renovated too, and I managed to roll my ankle and sprain it while walking through one of the renovation projects.
On the upside, we had lots of fun. We saw the Cirque Du Blah Blah show Zumanity. It was good, lots of nekkid chicks in it. We also went out to Zion National Park where the wife hiked with some of my other family while I gimped around the lowlands and took lots of pictures. I’m gonna try and post some of them sometime this week.
I played good poker but didn’t win, mainly due to one hand in which I lost $250. Without that pot I’d have been up $200 or so. The girl who won it from me was on an amazing run of luck. She shat down at our table with $60 and left with $1200. She caught every fricking hand she played in, including the one against me, which required her to pull runner runner 7’s. For those who don’t know, that’s a lucky as hell draw of cards. I hope she stubs her toe in the bathroom some cold morning.
Other than that, we saw all of the big casinos on the strip, and I brought home chips from most of them to add to my collection. We watched the lights at the Bellagio, the Pirate show at Trasure Island, and the volcano at whichever casino it was that has the volcano. We also went out to some of the red rock areas and did a lot of picture taking there as well.
So we had a bunch of fun and a nice couple of days away from work and the brats.
You were counselled that meeting was cancelled? Couldn’t they just announce it?
IMO, this is taking post trauma counselling a bit too far!

(nothing ever happens in Vegas–it all happens in Hannibal MO, but no-one ever talks about it)
Liberal is serving up some yummerific meat’n threes over in IMHO. I suggest y’all go order especially since today only seconds are on the house.
rigs you need another heapin’ bowl of tea/chicken soup/mashed potatoes?
Oh yeah, I had a cool thing happen to me. I hit Dunkin’ Donuts for a coffee this morning. Usually I only go on Mondays but I’ve had some insomnia lately and so decided to get one today, too. Now I am VERY picky about my coffee so I have no problem paying the $2.04 for a large (not that that’s a lot, but I could make it at home). Anyway, I go up to the counter and she says “$1.09”. Honest me says “I’m getting a large.” And she says, “Yup, $1.09.” I pay, kind of
but also too sleepy to ask, and the manager, who is making the coffee himself, says “Sometimes it’s nice to have a little surprise.”
So - woohoo!
Okay, I’m back at work, and too tired to read everything that happened yesterday, so quick run down the list: taxi, the dress is gorgeous. Big, big hugs for picu. Tissues and lozenges for everybody else who is sick, and Mika is correct that we’ve decided Ewan belongs to no one woman … but we’ll probably tear each other apart trying to get to him first.
This morning I stopped at Quick Check for smokes, and the guy in front of me in line was chatting with the girl behind the counter for a minute. When he left, I was going through my transaction and the girl behind the counter says to her coworker “See, I told you he’s totally weird!” To which I said “Hey, cut him some slack, he was pretty cute!” And the girl replied “Oh, he’s smokin’ hot, but he’s really really reeeally weird.”
I like 'em weird, though.
It went really well. It’s down to me and one other candidate, but I’ve got an inside reference on the team, so that’s my leg up on the competition. A final decision will be made by friday. I shall say no more, because I don’t want to jinx myself.
Fingers crossed? Check.
She was in ICU for several weeks after, not expected to live. Once she was out of the hospital, I brought her to our home and cared for her for nearly a year. Thankfully, she has no residual effects.
I think caring for her, kept me whole during that year.
Morning, everyone.
I just got an email from Best Friend to say that Intellectual Husband is going to be moving here this year. He’s going for his Masters at the Institute of Medieval Studies here, but last I heard he was deferring for a couple of years. This has all changed several times in the last few months, so I’m not really expecting it until we’re helping them move boxes or scout apartments.
Have some tea, rigs. Sugar and lemon. You need it.
Yesterday was boring except for Attacks Husband and my upstairs neighbour giving me cake. A.H. brought homemade chocolate cake over, and Neighbour baked us a sour cream coffee cake. She feels like giving a little back, because I’ve been giving her bread for months. I told her that more danish pastry is in the offing this week.
Today i am going to eat a healthy coffeecake based breakfast, go to the laundromat, come home and do grocery lists and meal planning, do the grocery shopping, and then come home and cook. Mr. Lissar goes back to work today. It will be busy.
I take it there was some kind of accident? (I’m not trying to pry). Is she close to her parents at all?
I wish I had had the kind of relationship with my MIL* that you seem to have with DIL. Does she live close, now?
Doing laundry (figure that’s not too taxing). gonna rest after lunch. not that I’m doing much–I’m surfing the Net.
*my MIL is a raving, narcissistic, passive-aggressive dry drunk. We’re civil.
Nuttin’ like a one hour and fifteen minute conference call is there? :dubious: I am having some medicinal cookies to help me get the feeling in my right ear back. On the upside, I did win three games of solitaire!
I got my fingers crossed for ya Smitty and man is it ever making typing hard! HAH! I slay me!
Guess what I get to do tomorrow afternoon? I get to participate in a two hour web conference thingy! YAY ME! Somehow that seems kinda appropriate on the first day of Lent. I mean it just has to be some form of penitence, right?
I have leftover chicken and rice for lunch. I should eat it. I really should. I want a burger though.
My MIL gets along better with me than she does with her own daughter…
Hey, I was out of town late last week. Did I by any chance miss a post about whether or not I made the Husband cut?
