I’m trying (in a fit of enthusiasm) to figure out a list of things (food) to make for people for Christmas. Easy, freezes or stores okay, not finicky (I did sea salt caramels last year and I’m not doing them with a toddler around. They’ll burn), tasty. No hand-dipping truffles. I like doing it, but no. No time.
So far:
Cherry liquor for Driving Husband (Cherries, sugar, bourbon or rum or vodka)
Yeah, I’m here, I got behind on the thread so will toss out appropriate hugs, yays, boos to all.
I woke up to thunder! It rained! It hasn’t rained here to speak of in something like three months. I could do without the lightning, but the rain is fine. It feels…humid. And I had a headache that I can’t quite get to go away because of the change. But we need any rain we can get.
I’m back from getting a haircut. It was Kids Day at the salon, which is normally a peaceful, quite place. Not today. The shampoo lady had stopped by to get her two boys haircuts, and ended up staying to work, so had her 9-year-old twins, one of them autistic (!), “helping” out. Robby, the autistic boy, particularly loved the wonderful echo the old wood floors made when he’d stomp his foot loudly on them. Then another woman was in with her grandkids, two preteen girls and a baby of under a year, who became unhappy and hit that earsplitting pitch that only babies can achieve. Plus there’s a piano in there for some reason, and the two little girls decided that playing the piano would be fun. April, my stylist and the salon owner, was not happy about the chaos. Personally, I just shut my eyes and pretended it wasn’t happening!
April says hi, by the way, snowbunny.
So do the kids like Mardi Gras that much, FCM? Because purple, green, and gold (which usually comes out yellow) are the Mardi Gras colors. Should I bring them some beads next time I come down?
I’m so sorry about that, Pie. Didn’t read all the details, but read enough to know it must have been traumatic. Hugs.
Thanks for the heads up, Mama T. I appears that Jerry is messing with profile stuff because the coding that I didn’t change seems to be broken. Couldn’t test taking the quotation marks out. Hopefully it’ll work when the coding is restored. (Saw someone else’s sig where coding was broken too, so I’m pretty sure it’s not just me.)
I’ve been a slug most of the day exploring my new laptop. Took me forever to figure out how to change the skin on Media Player. Then I figured out it was the visualizations I needed to mess with. Found a skin that doesn’t use visualization, so I’m all set now.
Guess I should try to get something done yet today.
Tomorrow, we’ll paint the blue and brown. I’m not kidding.
The yellow is done - a bit bright for my taste, but not awful. First coat of green is done - a pretty color, but I’d have used it as an accent rather than the whole room. **FCD **has the bathroom half put together. SIL started priming a couple of door frames and he cleared out the closet. Daughter and dad are at Lowe’s getting the material for countertops - they’ve decided not to use the counter we got with the cabinets.
After supper, I’m going to put the second coat of green on, then we’ll move the door frames into the bedroom. Tomorrow, we’ll bring all the cabinets down from the garage to the kitchen for installation. We’ve also got to bring down the flooring, tho I don’t know if we’ll get to that tomorrow. At least now we’re on stuff where lots of progress is made and fast.
I’m all hot and sweaty and stinky, but I’m not cleaning up till the second coat of green is done. Then I’m crashing. 'Cause I’ll have earned it!
Good afternoon! We ended up going out for breakfast and took the kids and the daughter’s boyfriend.
We came back home for a few and then headed out to a pet store that I’d read about on the web. They had quite a variety of amazing fish. We really liked the jaguar cichlids, but they were too big to put in with the smaller cichlids we already have. Perhaps when our oscars get bigger.
We also really liked the teacup stingray, but not to the tune of $100.00 for ONE. It’s a freshwater fish, but as it turns out, we’d need a minimum of a 125 gallon tank. Our is only a 55 gallon tank.
We saw several other amazing fresh water fish, along with beautiful specimens of saltwater tank fish. They had an absolutely gorgeous lion fish. I didn’t even look at the prices of those fish because a)we don’t have a saltwater tank, and b)we don’t have the extra time and money it would take to set up, maintain and stock a saltwater tank. Those things are spendy and take a lot of care.
It’s raining here. I think fall has really arrived.
It’s been slug day at da cave. I’m about to go down to the Burly Butcher Store and get us some rotisserie chicken cause it sounds good and they make good rotisserie chicken.
LiLi, have you thought about making biscotti? Those are always on my edible gift list. Pistachio and cranberry with white chocolate drizzle is nice and festive, but people don’t seem to mind getting a non-holiday flavour combo either.
Taters, maybe the parrot fish were pining for the fjords?
We just spent the afternoon dealing with our backyard, which we’d been horribly neglecting. It was looking like a jungle out there! Now that the front and side yards are presentable, though, I think the big project for next year will be transforming the back from the exploding weed patch to the enchanted woodland garden (well, at least that’s what I hope it’ll look like once we’re done).
This is not the year for local football. First there was the guy who got beat up during the (admittedly ill-advised) fan rush after the ECU-West Virginia game a couple of weeks ago. Then this morning a high-school player died after collapsing on the sidelines at last night’s game. Then this afternoon ECU got spanked by State, our biggest rivals.
Hockey season starts tomorrow, right? At least there’s one good team. Now if only ACC season would hurry up and get here…
I’ve swept and mopped the laundry room floor; washed the small rug that lives at the bottom of the basement stairs; swept and mopped the playroom floor and dragged the area rug outside (with TH help) and powerwashed it as well. It is now dangling from the deck railing to dry (several days). I then swept and mopped the area under that rug. I’ve done 3 loads of laundry (only one folded). The smell is better, but the true test will be tomorrow when it’s all dry and my nose isn’t fried from Clorox.
No, I am not making dinner. I’m not eating dinner. I may eat Heavenly Cookies (there’s a fucking in there, but I forget where) because I made those today, TOO.
I’m tired. But it feels good. Still have not caught up here. Sorry. Yay and boo and piss off as needed. Hugs all around. Here, have a heavenly cookie.
So, I got a rotisserie chicken, some store boughten N.O.T. sallit, as so as to not seem like a total slug, I nuked some frozen peas and carrots. Made for a good supper. The rest of the BlueBell Georgia Peach Cobbler ice cream will be dessert in a bit.
Whew! Je suis la pooped!! And I’m done for the day, except for laundry.
I put 2 coats of yellow in the kitchen and 2 coats of green in the bedroom. Daughter did all the edging and she started edging the brown (she said it was like painting with melted Hershey bars! ) FCD installed the medicine cabinet and the sconces, brought in the vanity, and cut down the countertop. SIL primed 2 of the door frames and moved around a bunch of stuff.
We had Polish sausage, kraut, N.O.T. tots, and corn. Then I showered, hauled the dirties to the laundry room, sorted, and started a load. Daughter and SIL are going to WalMart to get some stuff, so I gave her some $$ and she’s going to get some milk and flavored waters and ice cream. Yay.
My feet are killing me and I’m exhausted, but we got a lot done today. Except for doing several loads of laundry, I’m being a bum for the rest of the night. So there!
And I want to see pics of this rainbow apartment. I don’t mind the purple–my master bath is purple (periwinkle) with white tile, but all these other colors have me a bit
Spent much of the day at the farmers’ market. Dinner tonight will be spaghetti squash with marinara, corn onna cob, and snap peas. French apple pie for dessert.
I’ll post pics tomorrow after we finish the blue and brown. I promise. We’re going to be clearing a bunch of stuff out of the basement tomorrow and taking the kitchen cabinets down, so pics will be better then.
Hi all, I’m tired and floppy–we got up very early and went to Bagby Hot Springs with a friend. It was a nice soft day, cloudy but no rain and chill–perfect weather for it. We soaked for a couple hours until we were nice and pruny then levitated back to the car. We stopped in Estacada for something to drink and I had the mad desire for some hot wings so we sat in the car nomming those before heading the rest of the way back.
I’ve had about four hours sleep but I feel great. I’m watching “1900,” a Bertolucci movie from the '70s which is no shit over five hours long. It’s very leisurely, very beautiful and plays like a screensaver for a long while until you discover you’re totally engrossed in it. Has the advantage of showing full frontal nudity of both Robert DeNiro and Gerard Depardieu, including lots of winkie. I had no idea Gerard had dimples over his ass cheeks–my, my…
I just made an apple/blueberry cake and pretty soon I’m going to make a batch of peppery sausage gravy to go over hash browns… mmm, maybe I’ll make some biskits too, or perhaps some mashed NOT.
Did I mention how very wonky I feel? Very. Bzzzzz…
