Talking about our number of posts. (Spin-off from the Trolls R Us thread.)

I think Chronos got us all beat.

You can’t defeat a temporal deity.

From the hamburger menu you can pick Users (left column, 3rd item). Then adjust the drop-down at upper left from [Week] to [All time]. Then click the “Replies Posted” heading to sort the entire user roster by that number. You’ll be listed first and highlighted, then everyone else below you in descending order.

All time #1 is Elendil_s_Heir with 135K. Chronos is second with 115K. I’m in 13th place with almost 66K which is not quite half of Elendil_s_Heir’s score.

You can also sort by posts read, topics created, etc. Comparing posts made vs topics started, Czarcasm and Johnny_L.A are two of the very few to be very near the top of both lists. That shows a nice sense of balance. Me, I rarely start topics; only 1 in ~250 of my posts is an OP. For e.g. Czarcasm, 1 in 22 of his are OPs.

Huh… I didn’t think I was that prolific of a poster, but 12.7K in 16 years. Math works out to avg. more than two posts a day.

Argh, I see from the last post, we’re back on the topic of trolling. I’m always late to the party! :smirk:

It says I have about 49,000 posts but only 41 OPs. I don’t think that can be right, though.

I’m in 27th with 937K.

However — I’ve only been here since 2019. I suspect that I do talk too much. And here I am, doing it again.

(And how are you in 13th with only 66K? One of us read something wrong. Maybe it’s me.)

I checked… you have 4,900 (4.9k) posts, not 49,000.
And 41 OPs.

Do spin offs add to the post count? The threads started count? Enquiring minds want to know!

Probably not. The posts just get moved to a different/new thread.

Yes and yes.

I’m not sure whether to thank you for the correction or feel creeped out by the fact that you felt the need to check my work.

Why not both?

It’s you. :woman_facepalming:

Read the column headings carefully. From left to right you have 937K posts you’ve read, 19.4K posts you’ve written, and 40 topics you’ve created = OPs.

All the numbers we’ve been bandying about are posts written.

I only checked cos you said you thought it couldn’t be right.

Fair enough. The 100-1 ratio of posts to OPs feels about right, 1000-1 seemed definitely off.

Uh-oh. I’m at 29.6k.

I’m at 6600 posts and 34 new topics. I’m shocked that most of my new topics are sports related. Though not sports that most people here give a fig about.

I, too, don’t often create topics. 49.5K posts, only 166 topics created. I’d bet that most of those were related to football, baseball (including kicking off “monthly” topics on the NFL and MLB) and roleplaying games.

45.5k posts, 89 topics created. I tend to reply more than I initiate.

As to post counts, the folks who frequent Thread Games can rack up very impressive counts having created little of substance that others will recognize. Not meant as a criticism of folks like that, just pointing out a difference in how different categories of people use the Dope.

Unrelated to the above …
Looking at the yearly or shorter term stats will filter out the effect of whether someone has been here 5 years or 25. It’s also filter out the now-former posters who may once have been big contributors, but not any more.

I’m often surprised to see people in the top couple dozen prolific posters this week or month who I simply don’t recognize at all. Why? Their posts are nearly all in Thread Games and just about zero of mine are. We don’t cross paths.
