Talking about our number of posts. (Spin-off from the Trolls R Us thread.)

Ah. That makes a lot more sense; I’d been wondering how I’d racked up that many.

Thanks for correcting ignorance!

The number of posts by itself isn’t really a meaningful measure of blabbermouthedness; it must be measured in relation to the duration of the poster’s history. What you want is the Blabbermouth Index, or Blabex, which is number of posts divided by total number of days since joining. The unit is posts per day, and a normal human or average dog will have a Blabex of less than 1. An average of greater than 1 indicates an unrepentant blabbermouth.

Another interesting statistic is the ratio of total posts to total threads started, expressed as a percentage. This is known as the Visibility Index, or Vex, and is a measure of attention-getting inclination, and obviously, the lower the better. Social media experts recommend a Vex level below 1%, above which it starts to get annoying. I’m pleased to report my own Vex level is 0.4%. Trolls often have a Vex of 100%, known as a TrollVex.

Another good statistic is the ratio of total read time to total posts, an indicator of how much time a poster spends reading and considering before opening their virtual piehole. This is the Impulsive Posting Index, or Ipex, sometimes referred to as the Irressitible Urge To Post. It is the poster’s total read time, expressed in hours, divided by total posts created. Here, the higher the Ipex the better. Obviously a lurker who has made no posts at all but only reads will not have an Ipex (or, if you prefer, an Ipex of infinity). Appropriately enough, such a poster will also have a Blabex of zero, suggesting that in many ways this is the ideal poster.

19.8K but 3 of them were just silly.

But I remember exactly those three silly posts! :face_with_monocle:

I’m gonna start a thread about negativity. Everyone has to post something negative.

Posting there will decrease your post count.

Well, I screwed that up good, undoubtedly due to my abnormally high Ipex score! If lower is better, it’s the opposite – the ratio of threads started to total posts!

Ironically, I had it right the first time, then edited it to be wrong. I blame early-evening Caesars!

Isn’t that always the way.? You post 1 dud…

And forever after you’re known as Hal the sheep-poster.

66,000 posts / 8290 days = Blabex of not quite 8. Net of my sabbaticals, I claim an estimated 9.5 Blabex. I’m waaaay over par.

Ask your doctor if TrollVex is right for you.

Dammit, mine is over 10 by that measurement.

Only 6.8 K, in almost a quarter of a century, I’m positively Spartan.
At first (2001-2003) I was a bit intimidated and thought my English wasn’t good enough.
Then the board went-pay-to-post and I couldn’t post.
Most of my post must be from the last years where I started posting more and more because with age comes shamelessness…

I hope you know by now your English is practically flawless. You write better than most native English speakers I know, and I don’t think anyone would suspect you weren’t a native user of the language.

I wrote those words of wisdom before computing my own Blabex. It’s around 7.5 posts per day, and that includes a week of no posting whatsoever when I was in the hospital having medical care inflicted on me. If modern medicine had not saved my life, my Blabex would be steadily declining toward zero!

I fully agree. @Frodo, your English language proficiency is equal to anyone on this board, and your depth of experience greater than most.

Hey. No one said there would be math.

Since I do that crap, and ain’t gonna figure it out…I’m going with the number 10.

Nice round number. Makes me feel like braiding my hair on the beach  .

On a vaguely related subject, is it possible to find out what/when my first post was?

I’ve played a lot of one word posting games.

Some day I might do something substantial. Be sure to hold your breath waiting.

Want to add my voice here. @Frodo your English is beyond excellent. And your expertise on Argentina’s politics adds rare and valuable information as well.

Your number is almost 14. 13.7 to be precise.

I’m pretty sure it was this one.

I just looked at your join date and searched for posts made by you earlier than the day after that. It found 3 of them, and that’s the oldest one.

Can I ask which three?
