I can’t help be amazed that (if I’ve counted right) we have had 5 legs, not including the ‘to be continued’ Pit Stop, and not a single non-elimination leg yet. Are there still going to be 3 NELs as usual? What’s the latest in the season an NEL has first appeared? There are only six teams left – we’re going to end up seeing the same 5 teams race for six weeks in a row at this rate.
Although technically it was a double leg, The Norway episode was basically a Non Elimination leg.
No team was eliminated that episode. The teams got to the pit stop and they were given another clue to go to Poland.
But the last team to arrive was not penalized for being last. Rather than a traditional non-elimination leg it was simply a leg that was twice as long as normal.
This is especially true since the first half was followed by an immediately bunching of all teams together. With no penalty and no reward and no impact from finish order there was essentially no competitive reason for that leg to exist.
Actually, I’m curious how they counted it in terms of the rule that the Express Pass needed to be handed to another team by the end of Leg 5. Did that count as two legs or one?
I think the purpose of a Non-Elimination Leg and To Be Continued Leg is essentially the same.

11 teams + 3 teams on the finale = 9 episodes (if there is an elimination on every episode)
2 episodes of non eliminations = More Commercials and more Product Placements.
Yes, but at least non-elimination legs have some game impact by putting the last place team in a tight spot. I wouldn’t have been bothered at all by a double-length leg with no eliminations or penalties if they hadn’t immediately put everybody on the same boat.
Yep, that was a very silly episode. “Hey, I have this great idea…let’s make it so nothing on the leg matters at all!”
Well, Pinky and No Brain could have used their express pass. And they did end up giving their 2nd express pass (verbally) to the Emergency Room Doctors.
So the leg did do something.
Plus it set up some later Karma to the Beards who told the Pinky and No Brain “We don’t need the Express Pass”. They certainly could have used the E.P. when they got U-Turned in Poland.
Yes, it would have been better if the Bunnies had to do a speed Bump in Poland. But if it was something easy like sitting on a block of ice for 10 minutes, chances are someone would have complained about the “Lame Task”.
Quite right; the show’s pretty deeply flawed at times.
It seems as if any leg was good for a non-elimination, this would have been a good time. The singing competition just seems brutally difficult if you can’t handle the task, and the skills involved aren’t learned quickly. It would have been decent just to have this end up switching around the order of the teams instead of kicking out the least-talented singer.
I don’t know. If the task would have been “Rub your nipples on the block of ice for 10 minutes”, there might have been something to it
