I like the fact that the list of All-Star Teams, while not including a team from every season, doesn’t have excessive quantities of teams from any particular season.
(Survivor All Stars bugged me because Seasons 1 and 2 were WAY overrepresented.)
I am well-pleased with all of these choices. Even Ian and Teri, because we need more than one villain. Rob can’t carry the entire weight of villainy and he’s a different sort of villain anyway. He’s the plotty and schemy villain whereas Ian is the asshole villain. I totally get the hate people have for Rob but I find myself in the somewhat squicky position of having developed the slightest of crushes on him (which, believe me, I know and I am already ashamed) so I don’t mind. John Vito and Jill were great the first time around; too bad they’re “formerly” dating. They’re the team who raced in memory of her brother who was killed on 9/11.
“Eric and Danielle” are Eric of Eric and Jeremy (Team [del]Closet Cases[/del] Frat Boys) and Danielle of Danielle and Dani (The Pinks). Which gives me the opportunity to link to those naughty pictures of the Frat Boys and the Dirty Filthy Hippies again (but not from work).
Yeah, but it’s not like they haven’t had chance after chance on these shows. Give somebody else a turn.
I caught a few episodes of the last TAR and was looking forward to watching this one from the start. Boston Rob will push that back to TAR 12. His 15 minutes are long gone.
I actually like Rob and Amber, but I’ve seen them on two Survivors and one TAR (and, I’m ashamed to say, I watched their wedding TV show), so I’m kinda meh on seeing them in this.
Teams I’m REALLY glad to see:
Kevin & Drew - I don’t know exactly why, but I like ‘em.
Charla & Mirna - They are so clueless–but earnest! They make me laugh.
Dustin & Kandice - Yay Beauty Queens! They were really rockin’ last season until one (huge) mistake sent them home.
Teams I could do without:
The Guidos - Their failure in season 1 was so perfect (done in by their own arrogance) and satisfying to watch, that I would hate to see them redeem themselves here.
Teri & Ian - just annoying as hell.
David & Mary - annoying and really not very good racers last season. I hope they go out early.
I watched the video of Charla and Mirna’s interview, and Charla reveals her big secret for keeping up with all the running this time:
She’s wearing heelies!
Teri & Ian may be evil, and so may Romber, but the original mustache-twirling evil team is also on, the Guidos. I can’t wait to see them in action again – their brand of evil will seem so positively charming after the ugliness of later seasons, personified, of course, by J&V!
Can anyone tell me which seasons of TAR are on video? I’m having bad luck at Blockbuster. Cockmuster? They just sort of suck, but they’re what I have handy.
I never get tired of Boston Rob and Amber. He’s one of the few reality tv people that understand that this whole thing is a game, nothing more, and he treats it that way. Far too many people on these shows take themselves far too seriously and they are a nice change.
I get the hate, too. I really do. But it just comes across sometimes as a snobby kind of hate, like he’s just not our kind of people. Too roughly hewn and… uncivilized. The only criticisms I’ve ever heard are personal in nature, even criticisms about his game. Like: he’s so full of himself. Or: he bends the rules as much as he can.
Anyway, don’t be ashamed of your crush, Otto. If I were a woman or gay or what have you, he’s the kind of guy I’d go for! I have a feeling he treats life the same way he does game — carve out as many advantages as you can while helping the people you care about. Good qualities in a person if you ask me.
