I have two.
The first one is on my left shoulder blade, it’s about 5 x 7 inches big and it’s a dragon in front of a yin-yang. It’s kind of hard to describe but if you can imagine the yin-yang is a backdrop and the dragon sits in front of it so that parts of the yin-yang are obscured.
The second is a yin-yang with a red rose through it. The stem of the rose is the dividing line between the black/white yin-yang and the bud sits right above the circle part of yin-yang. It’s on my ankle. About 1 1/2 inches big and I agree that the ankle hurt like hell.
I’ve got a rather large dragon covering my right calf, with my name (they swore) in Chinese. A memento of a trip to Hong Kong in the late 70’s. A popular one at the time looked like a meat inspector’s stamp and read “USDA Prime”. It was usually applied to the posterior. But my most favorite tattoo memory (from the same trip) was of watching an unbelievably drunk (and stupid) sailor screaming his lungs out whilst getting a (small:)) happy face tattooed right on the head of, you guessed it, Mr. Happy. I laughed so hard I almost fell down.
I’ve only got one, which I had done this last April.
It’s the rune Perth, on my back, right between my shoulderblades. It’s all in black, in a kind of tribal/gothic style. It’s fairly small, only about 2 inches tall by 1 wide. I don’t have any good pics of it at the moment (very hard to take a pic of your own back), but maybe soon.
The first one I got is on the lower left side of my back. It’s a black cross with an open rose in the center and a rosebud on the three points of the cross with a green vine circling around the cross. It hurt a lot when I got it and the closer they got to my butt the worse it hurt!
The second one I got is on my right shoulder blade. Its just a simple red rose with a green vine.
The third one is on the outside of my left ankle. It’s a rose with a vine wrapping around a 1/4 moon and there’s a star to the left of it. It hurt really bad too but it looks good.
I have a picture of the one on my lower back but the pic may be considered somewhat pornographic because you can see part of my ass. I’ll send it to Hamadryad and if she thinks it’s o.k. she can put it on the doper tattoo pages and crop it if she thinks it’s necessary.
Hamadryad, I need to send you an update - I have had one of my tats re-done recently, and the artist did an amazing job… there is more to do, but I’m debating on it, as I had a bit of an ink reaction this time around. It has now settled down completely, though, so I’m thinking.
I have 6 hours under the needle (that is a rather good way of putting it :)), on three separate tattoos, which are up on Hama’s site. A cat on my right shoulder, a bracelet on my left wrist, and my art-themed number on my left lower back - the last is the one that has been updated.
The inner wrist was painful, comparable to the ankle, I imagine.
A faerie woman (very beautiful shading work gives it a 3D feel)
The Sun
The Elemental series (right shoulder)-
3. A bear paw print (Spirit) center
4. A sword (Air) right
5. A spear with a snake wrapped around it (forming the ken rune) and surrounded by flames (Fire) bottom
6. A chalice (Water) left
7. A hypercube (Earth) above
The Celtic series (left shoulder) (unfinished) -
8. A 9 turned spiral, center
9. The Cauldron of Rebirth, left
10, 11. My Gauntlets (abstract/tribal designs on my forearms)
The downturning cycle (right leg)
12. The moon with the features forming a face
13. A band of thorns circling above the knee, with some piercing/bleeding
14. An abstract dragon design
As you can guess, my tatts have very strong spiritual meaning for me.
Oh and regarding pain, the band of thorns passes around my leg, just above my knee. The back part of it was sitting right on
top of tendon and bone. The artist said he would rather have his dick inked than that location. It was the most painful
experience in my life, and this is coming from someone who just went through kidney stones.
While I’m going to get inked as soon as I become of age(no possible way my parents would approve), I really doubt what to get. I’m Irish, but I see Celtic art as a trend, and were I to get it, it wouldn’t be to be trendy. I’m also Danish(on my Dad’s side), so maybe I’ll create a design blending my last name’s crest with the Celtic art styles, I think that’d be really cool. Or maybe design my own shamrock with Celtic knotwork entwined in it.
BTW, on the tattoo page, major props to Five who got a panel from Calvin and Hobbes inked on him.
I only have one, a small crescent moon & pentacle, on the outside of my right leg, just above the ankle. The moon is blue, and the pentacle is yellow. I’d like another one, but I don’t know when or even if I’ll be able to.
Ancient Egypt has always fascinated me, so I’m thinking that if I ever do get another one, it’ll probably be some sort of hieroglyph-type thingy, or maybe an ankh. Not sue yet. Gotta do more research.
Upper right arm: Cross shaped design. The word “Pilipinas” in babayin (Tagalog writing) going vertically, and on either side two characters from the I-Ching, that represent basically heaven, earth, yin, yang, etc. Under the Tagalog writing the word “Pinoy”, and on top of the writing the 8 rayed sun with the babayin character “ka”. I dont hate it, but it doesnt really go with the rest of what I have (it’s single line, small, and not as nice as i’d like it). I’ll probably get a cover-up.
Right calf: the Chinese character “wu4” (the 4 represents the tone). It basically means “to awaken, to understand,to realize, enlightenment”. My tattooist says he’s going to go back over it to darken it.
Left calf: Lotus with flames arching up and around the character for “language”. The flames need to be colored, i hope to get that part finished soon. The lotus is already colored and my tattooist did a great job on it. The whole thing is about 6 X 4 inches. Most people are amazed the first time they see it.
My next tattoo i’m considering a lot. It’s going to be a purely abstract design, with no real meaning. On the shoulder there would be a kind of sun like pattern, with two lines extending down the arm, terminating in a point just at my forearm. Off to the side of both lines would be a series of triangular designs. I’ll have to think about it…it would be big and bold and showy with most short sleeved and t-shirts (if I end up doing office work, i’d probably be in long sleeved shirts, so i dont see it being much of a problem).
One, right shoulder-blade. Theater masks with a shadowed rose wrapped around it (b&w). As soon as my student loans are paid-off I’m going to cover the masks (not really me anymore) with something else. Most likely a gothic or oriental design. Also thought about inking the kids name and birthdate when he/she comes into being.
I updated and stuff and holy freakin’ cracky I hope some of you chicks are not straight…
sweat
Okay, okay, I’ll stop acting like a 12-year-old boy. For the duration of this post.
Everyone else send the gods-be-damned things to me so I can put them up. <obligatory on-topic bit> hardygrrl, just send a damned picture and then when you get it recolored send in another one…KimKatt sis and it’s cool as heck to see the in progress/completed pics side-by-side.</OO-TB>
And I’d better resurrect my old thread and stop hijacking this one, I think.
While on my hunt for a tattoo to get, I stumbled across this page and am thinking about getting the tattoo 2nd from the bottom. (entitled “Celtic design with Tribal”)
The other one I am looking at is entitled “Celtic and Tribal back”.
My exact plan! I have 2 tattoos already (flower design on right shoulder blade, native American feathers/dreamcatcher on left arm) and the phoenix from the book of Kells will go on the right arm.
I am going to give this to myself for xmas Can hardly wait…
