Yes, I know I’m having too much withheld, that it’s a free loan to the gov’t, etc etc.
Yet…
Ivylad has untaxable income
We have two children in school that’s covered by some sort of education credit
We insulated the attic, allowing us an energy credit
We had a rental property that was empty for about four months last year
Due to a mix-up, I paid property taxes on the rental property twice last year…in May for 2006, and in November for 2007.
Which results in a rather nice fat refund, which was deposited into our joint account today.
That will kill two credit card bills and take a nice chunk out of another. What’s that you say? Stimulate the economy? Buy a HDTV? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! We’re getting debt-free, baby, and we’ll buy the HDTV with cash when we can, thank you very much.
Mine is getting deposited on Monday, from there I plan to go get contacts, get my legs waxed and buy a treat for Velociraptor, the rest is going in my buy a car fund.
I was happy to discover that both my Federal and State refunds were deposited into my account this morning.
Unfortunately the joy is short-lived, because I need to immediately transfer them to my Home Equity loan, which I wrote a check on for the down payment on my new car.
I may need to keep Ivylad on track…he’s excited about paying off the two bills, but when I mentioned the “chunk on the third” he said, “We’ll see.” I’m taking that to mean he might want to go play.
We’ll discuss it tonight, but I’m pretty sure I can show him we are SO close, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting bigger, and just be patient a little bit longer…
Glad to see at least one of us is contributing to the economic upswing!
Ours went for ordinary living expenses. The “rebate” coming later will probably go for property taxes and our annual AFLAC premium (a cancer supplement that I started at my last job and decided to keep).
We got ours already, a nice fat one. Since my wife’s writing income is erratic, sometimes she makes bigger estimated payments than necessary. Last year we donated our horse to charity and got a big write-off, so this year we thought we’d have to pay more.
This is the earliest we ever filed.
We still will get a pittance from the state, which we mailed in since the e-filing charge was a good chunk of it.
Our refund has already come and gone. Some clothes shopping and a little to set up an exercise room in the basement (no big equipment as we already had. Just some small things to round it out.). The rest, and the Bush Bucks that are yet to come, are going to debt reduction.
Just call ahead, or go early (5-6) and it is never terribly crowded. If you can afford a nice meal at Ruth’s Chris, you owe it to yourself to try Del Frisco’s once. Best steak I’ve ever had, and all their sides and appetizers are top-notch as well.
