Tea consumption

Wendy Rassmussen and Ric Rhinehart write in their book Tea Basics (John Wiley & Sons, 1999, p.7) that the Irish consume the most tea per capita, at 3.83 cups per day. Americans rank near the bottom worldwide, at less than half a cup per person per day (mostly in the form of iced tea).

I’m trying to hold up America’s end, usually having four, and occasionally six cups per day. (This is in addition to any coffee I might have during the day.)

So on average, how much tea do you drink?

I drink about 2 cups a day.
Tea is good for you!

I drink a lot of iced tea since swearing off of soda. I have about six cups a day, too.

Tea is my welcome substitution for vitamin water when I cannot find it.

Between the chai I drink in the morning and the iced tea I drink the rest of the day, probably… close to a gallon.

I love tea. In the summer I don’t drink hot tea much at all, but during the fall/winter, I usually drink an average of a cup a day, maybe more. As far as iced tea goes, I drink it rarely. While some of it is very good, I’d generally rather have pop. More refreshing, in my opinion.

When I do have it (probably one day in two), I drink a whole four-cup pot.

Well… I’ve just surpassed the average Irish consumption.

mmmmm…tea…mmmmmmm…

1 cup to start the day
1 mid morning
1 at lunch (at least)
1 mid afternoon
1 with dinner…

That’s 5-6 in a typical day

I have about 2 or 3 cups a day, either Chai with lots of milk and a sprinkle of sugar or good strong Earl Gray. I let it steep about 6 or 7 minutes. I like it strong.

I love black tea, but for some reason I hate green teas.

Mmm, tea…

One cup in the morning, with a newspaper and some sort of bread product. I get the Twinings assortment, so as to have some variety, but I’m especially fond of their Irish Breakfast.

That’s usually it, though I drink more in the evening if I’m feeling tense or ill. It always settles my stomach.

My mother, on the other hand, drinks it all day long. I’d guess her average at 8-10 cups a day.

I usually drink about a half-gallon at a sitting. Some of the restaurants that I frequent just bring me a pitcher. Yesterday at lunch, I went thru two pitchers, but normally I go thru only 1½.

And those restaurants that don’t allow the servers to leave pitchers with customers, well the servers there (at least those that know me) do one of two things: bring me two glasses, or bring me a big, tall glass from the bar.

Two cups on average (I switch between chai and plain ceylon) not including an iced lemon tea that I buy daily.

Usually, none at all… I’m more of a soda drinker. When I do drink it though, I go through a gallon a day or more. I drink like a fish. (non-alcoholic)

Two+ a day during the week. (Safari Sunset Red Tea!) If I’m not at work, I’m too lazy to boil water.

Yeah, I know how sad that is…

i never used to like tea until very recently, when i discovered chai. mmmmmmmmmm. i have a cup or so every day or two.

actually, right now i’m drinking some cinammon herbal tea ive never tried before. but i agree with bibliocat it’s gotta be strong.

there’s just nothing like that first sip…

I’ll have 3-5 pots of tea in the course of an average day. I have a little 3-cup teapot here at work and a big 5/6-cup teapot at home. So that’s–what?–from 9 up to 20-some cups.

I’m up to my third cup this morning. Twining’s English Breakfast, but I’ll switch to something less caffeine-laden later in the day.

I’m drinking my first out of two morning cups of tea right now.

Sometimes I will drink 4 cups of hot tea a day. I agree with FisherQueen, the Irish Breakfast is the best, although Yorkshire Gold is my favorite. I like Barry’s too. I usually buy my tea from a little English grocery store down the street.

I will drink iced tea, too. I think I have about two cups of that a day.

4-6 cups a day!

Well, I’m almost done my first cup of he day- it’s here beside me. Orange Pekoe, with lemon and sugar. I drink between two and eight cups a day, even in winter, and rarely drink iced tea.

I don’t like hot drinks, but being from the South I have iced tea (sweet, of course) in my veins instead of blood. A couple of quarts a day is about right.
