Ted Lasso on Apple TV {Returns March 15, 2023}

I was hoping that when Roy asked Keely who the video was for, it was because he wanted to kick someone’s ass. Instead it was jealousy.

Yeah, that was a bit confusing. I initially thought he was worried it was for him, because he wanted to know if it had been his fault somehow. And then I thought what you thought. But then it was weirdly creepy jealousy. (Do most people not know about Keely and Jack?)

Well, my prediction that Ted won’t get back with Michelle took a hit with this episode, but I still think they’re unlikely to do so. It’s more about moving on and accepting everyone’s transformations than it is about chasing an old ideal. We’ll see.

And if that’s true, the opposite (or some variation thereof) is true for Jamie and Keeley. They’ll both have changed - but more towards a place where they’re both ready for a fully mature role in a mature relationship.

Not a fan of the idea of Ted and Rebecca together either. The green matchbook reared it’s tiny little head for some a quick moment of foreshadowing, and it just feels a little too “everyone has to end up in a relationship by the end of it all” for me. They have a great friendship - let’s not muck it up.

He would have known if it was for him because he would have gotten it originally. I thought that the show by and large handled the larger issue poorly. They just shoehorned in all of the arguments that have been covered over and over for years.

We did learn something new about Jack and that was she isn’t a self made billionaire. She’s just playing with Daddy’s money.

Not if she didn’t send it.

Well, if he was a gentleman, he wouldn’t have looked at the leaked video, so wouldn’t have known it was one she sent to him or not.

Good point.

BTW, during the phone call between Rebecca and Ted, she noted the Beatles music being played by the busker. Was that part of the psychic’s prediction?

No, nothing about the Beatles in the predictions I don’t think. They mentioned The Big Lebowski in their conversation beforehand, but no Beatles. There was the “I am the walrus” Lennon/Lenin joke from The Big Lebowski, though. Maybe you’re on to something.

With a PSA about deleting the sexy photos on your phone and Beard explaining Hey Jude to Henry, this came close to feeling like A Very Special Episode. Either way, it felt rather ham-handed all around.

And the part with Isaac grabbing Colin’s phone… I mean, I get why they did that narratively, so now Colin’s secret is out (or we assume, anyway). But Isaac forcibly taking the phone from Colin’s hands and seeing the photos is pretty much exactly what the problem was to begin with. Whatever his intentions, Isaac invaded Colin’s privacy just like the dickhead who hacked Jamie’s email. I hope they address that.

He broke up with Keeley because of his insecurity and I guess he’s still insecure.

I got knocked out of the narrative by thinking of the relationship between the real world fappening, which was a hack of iCloud (due to either vulnerabilities in iCloud, or phishing of the people whose pictures got stolen), and the in-show a-wankening. Of course everybody in show only uses Apple devices, so it must be another hack of Apple. I guess I’m sort of glad that Apple has enough self confidence to laugh at themselves?

Which reminds me of another thing I’m sure I could find the answer to on Reddit or someplace, but never cared enough to look, and didn’t matter much until now. The first time I saw the first episode, I thought one of the players (possibly Jamie) had a topless picture of Keely in his locker. A few years later I rewatched the first season, and didn’t see it. I might have blinked and missed it, it might have been cut from the show, or I could just be misremembering.

The hack of Jamie was because they guessed his email password, not because they hacked his phone.

“Was you password, password?”

Yes, but in original real world fappening the pictures were a result of getting into celebrities’ email and pictures on iCloud. I’m not sure if it is known if it was due to direct hacking of iCloud, or just hacking of a bunch of people’s passwords. Both things have been claimed.

In show, Jamie was clearly not the only one who was hacked, so it may have been a coordinated hack of a bunch of celebrities’ passwords, as is alleged with the real world hack.

Yeah, but he was tricky, and spelled it with 2 Ss!

While many characters have been fleshed out during the course of this show Roy Kent has gone from being an interesting complicated figure to a cartoon. Not sure why the writers are not taking advantage of the acting chops they got there.

I would also add that the vast majority of the players on the team (except Sam, Jamie and Colin) have been reduced to cartoons as well.

Except that none of them were ever more than background cut outs, from football is life to Ditch bluntness, they’ve been throwaways.

I rewatched the whole series a few weeks ago and it’s still there.
