Ted Lasso on Apple TV {Returns March 15, 2023}

Now this was more like it, it had football, it had people being shitty and people being great in response, it had more football, just like I like it.
The red string thing was silly and overlong yes, but the rest was spot on.

On a side note, in the first season I thought I wanted an Argentinian player in the squad, just because one wants to see his co-nationals in things, but now I think that if they had one and it was true to character he would’ve strangled Ted with his own hands by now.

And the solution was a football solution! Jamie the #10!

Hehe my thoughts exactly, I even said to.myself (I was watching alone because my wife bailed out on the second season, not enough football) “Now they have to change his #9 shirt for the #10

Here when somebody helps figure out or solve some problem we say “Se puso la 10”, “He put on the #10 shirt”, oddly applicable to this episode.

Interesting that they’re redeeming Nate’s character, instead of making him a cartoon villain.

Wasn’t there a Season 1 episode where Nate’s father was a total dick? Wasn’t apparent in this episode.

Well, he did say that he was leaving Nate and his mother & sister alone for “girl talk”.

Well, this is Ted Lasso…

The only cartoon villain seems to be Rupert. I am very curious what they end up doing with him.

But they redeemed him to Nate with his mother sharing the map, which seemed to part of bringing Nate from spitting at himself in the mirror to building the art project and then just asking instead.

Jason Sudekis has said the show is about “bad dads” and Nate’s father is definitely one. So by the time the show ends I expect either Nate has a better relationship with his father or he learns to live with one who never seems to appreciate him.

Thrown down a shaft, if the sets and wardrobe people have any say about it.

I see I wasn’t the only one to notice the similarity between Rupert’s office and the Emperor’s Deathstar throne room. I want to believe that was intentional.

This was one of my favorite episodes, right up there with the exorcism one. I’m mildly embarrassed to admit that I laughed uncontrollably throughout the dick-tether sequence.

Mildly annoyed that even though there’s more football this season, they’re still quite vague about where the team is in the season or their place in the table.

If memory serves, Richmond opened with a draw at Chelsea, then ran off 5 straight wins with Zava, then had the disastrous outing against West Ham, then a winless 7 game streak, followed by losses to Man City and Arsenal sandwiched around the Ajax friendly. So 16 of 38 matches played with somewhere between 16 and 23 points depending on how many draws in that 7 game streak. The Zava wins probably keep them safe from relegation but they need a quick turnaround to finish top 4 much less win the league.

Provided there wasn’t any unseen time jump between the loss to Man City and the game against Ajax, I think they are 6-6-5 for 24 points.

They were definitely 6-6-3 right before losing to City, anyway.

I don’t know about the sequence itself but the part where Roy was brainstorming more dick-tether practices was hilarious.

“That was… really meant to be more of a one-off, buddy.”

I chuckled once or twice, but afterwards I asked myself if it would be as funny if Ted was a women’s gymnastics coach asking his team to do something weird with their private parts to test out on of his wacky theories.

Probably outside the scope of this thread, but you’re right, but also you’re wrong. Clearly the reaction would be different. But that doesn’t mean haha we’re all hypocrites. It just means that the cultural context surrounding playful-joking-about-somewhat-unwanted-genital-contact is significantly different between women and men. Which is… fine?

Episode 8 Discussion starts below:

I think that Dr Jackoff proposed and and Michelle turned him down. Loved that Jamie was the only one to be appropriate with Keely.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Colin now that Isaac knows his secret. It would be weird if the team was anything but totally accepting given how mature they all were about the picture leak.

I was thinking that we only had two episodes left but there are four! Plenty of time to wrap things up.

As for Keeley getting hacked, I agree that she had nothing to apologize for, and Jack was totally out of line asking her to do so.

And, wow, was Mae a hard-ass after hearing that Ted, Beard and Henry went to the West Ham match. (BTW, that explains that shot of the three of them in the preview trailer, with Henry in a West Ham jersey.)

Ted being okay with his son wearing a West Ham jersey came off to me as a ham fisted parallel to sharing his son with a step dad. Sounds like something the Diamond Dogs should have pointed out.
