Teeming Millionaires - Round IV

I see the rules have the max at 0%, instead of “No Maximum”. Also, the minimum trade price is not set (previous competition it was $1.) Is this a rule change, sd?

BTW, according to the site, trading doesn’t start until tomorrow. Or are you just trying to get the extra day you needed to win the last competition, CNote?

Paul

Oops.

I guess I’m eager to pound you to a pulp Paul.

I was going to post here simply to announce that competition trading starts on Friday, April 27 (tomorrow) at 9:30 am EDT and that you must be registered by the end of the day today to participate.

Then, I saw Chris’ post about rules, so I re-checked 'em. To avoid confusion:

Welcome again to all the new players… it’s great to have fresh meat… er… new competitors!

As far as your abilty to trade today, Chris, you can’t. Are you sure that you’re attempting to trade on a portfolio entered in SDMB-IV? The site should not allow you to trade until 9:30 AM EDT tomorrow.

By the way, remember my portfolio from Round 3? The one that finished the competition down 1.98%? As of the close of markets last night, it is up 14.37%. All on the basis of a single pick, and despite the fact that I sold Krispy Creme short when it was worth 11 points less than it is now and am still waiting for it to fall.

The moral of this story is that smart, safe, hedgy trading is not enough to win a competition like this; the month-long time limit means that you must make gutsy plays. You can’t simply wait for valuation to increase in a timely fashion.

Well said!

Yeah, yeah, I jumped the gun.

C’mon!@! Let’s get this party started!

I got my stocks all picked and my strategy down… As Ed Wood once proudly proclaimed, “Let’s do this fucker!”

1st trade is in and, as of this morning, I am in first place!

See?

So, Paul… How are ya?

:cupping hands and leaning waaaaay out over the railing:

Hey Chris! Hellooooooo… can you hear me down there?

It’s not letting me sell anything. Anyone else having that problem? I get the ‘Over maximum percent daily volume for stock’ when I try to sell anything at any amount. I’m starting to really hate that message.

I can’t sell anything, either. So I guess that’s not normal? It says in the explanation that you can’t trade more than 25% of the stocks average daily volume but I’m way below that. Did I buy too much? Also, can I look at everyone else’s stock portfolios and buy stocks that are doing good, or is that cheating?

Sorry CNote, haven’t tried to sell anything yet.

I’ll want to sell by end of day, tho.

Actually, it’s not letting us BUY anything either, right now. I just checked the Rules and see that the “Max. % Trading Volume” has been set back to 0%. The last trade I made was before 10am this morning, so it’s been changed since then.

Can you fix this sdimbert? Thanks!

Paul

Usually the Max % Trading Volume is set to “No Maximum”. If you had the dough, you could buy a million shares, theoretically.

You can look at everyone else’s portfolio, but it won’t do you much good. Just as the standings are updated daily, so are the portfolios. If you look at my portfolio (click on user id in the leaderboard list), you’ll see the stocks that I owned as of close of trading yesterday. It doesn’t tell you what stocks I’ve bought or sold today. It also continues to update the value of my portfolio based on those stocks. So you can’t trust that, either. Of course, your own portfolio will be updated as you make trades, but you’re the only one who can see that.

BTW, congrats on being in the green, on your first day!

Paul

I sent sd an e-mail on the problem, hopefully we’ll hear from him soon.

Paul

Aaargh!!

I sent an email to the folks over at MarketPlayer concerning the link in the banner… they helped me fix that, but managed to screw up something else while they were at it.

Anyhoo, things should be ok now:

Paul, thanks for the email… I wasn’t checking the board because I’m a but busy this morning. Sorry about the mix-up, everyone.

Chris, you take all the fun out of making fun of you.

As of Monday Night:

Highest Performance 16.73%
Lowest Performance -7.82%
Median Performance 0.04%
Average Performance 2.98%

                Daily Gain Total Gain
1 thinksnow 16.76% 16.73%
2 PaulTheYounger 10.32% 11.19%
3 Boscibo 5.28% 5.35%
4 sdimbert 0.76% 1.53%
5 SaintZero 0.03% 0.04%
5 SouprChckn 0.03% 0.04%
7 CnoteChris 2.62% -3.23%
8 pantom -6.74% -7.82%

While it’s obvious that Paul and thinksnow had good days (16 percent?!?) don’t look over Chriss move yesterday, from -5.7% up to -3.23%. Keep your eye on him… the Force is strong with that one.

Good luck, all!

I can’t log on to the Market Player site, it won’t take my password. Anyone else having this problem?

Why does the Nasdaq keep going up? Why? Why? Why?

I know, I know, because I’m shorting it. I knew that already. (BTW, Boscibo, I was just able to log in, the better to see how terribly I did today.)

At this rate, I’ll soon be threatening Scylla’s record in the first go-round, when he actually managed to wind up with a negative net worth.

Just how long are you gonna play with your PALM?

You’re gonna make us daytraders look bad!

Yeah, I was thinking about making a change, but then I realized that, well, I’m smoking you, so why bother!

Actually, I’ve got a stock or two I might get into in the near future…Palm is doing nicely though, isn’t it.

<furious knocking on wood>

[sub]Okay, no Palm-knocking-wood jokes, y’all, let’s try to keep this mature![/sub]
